Like your herbs. Is coriander the same as cilantro? Cause it looks very similar. I'm just starting my garden since this January. The herbs still look like tiny seedlings about an inch at the most in height. We call it the Pizza Garden cause of all the herbs. It's getting more expensive to buy herbs at the grocery store so growing your own for the price of seeds is great! Great vid, thank you for sharing! Good bless.
I have a question :/ I'm growing my own herbs for my rabbit in pots in our sunroom. I planted them just as you did, and put a thick layer of seeds around the pots. Now they're sprouting up everywhere, and are super thick. Do I HAVE to thin them out? they're still small, they're not real big or tall yet. & How do I thin it out if I have to?
@xxBecaB00xxx No need to thin, but if they are really thick, they may exaust the pot of nutrients and need plenty of water. You could repot the entire pot into a larger one to eleviate this.
hi, your videos are awesome. i got a small doubt, after sowing the seeds do i need to cover the pot with some paper or something .... appreciate your earliest reply. Thanks
Thanks. It requires a lot of planning and effort to show the plants over time, so I guess most videographers think it is too much trouble to mess with.
Wow, I had no idea you could plant that many seeds in so small a pot... I only planted ONE SEED per pot, have I done it wrong? The directions say seed (one seed?) every ten inches, does that really mean a bunch of seeds every ten inches?
Cheers! As they say, you learn someting every day. I always get vexed when my seeds pop up when watering, but thanks to you I've learned a new trick. Thanks
if you want these herbs to grow faster, try exposing the seed coat with sandpaper, do NOT pat the soil down before sowing, and use subirrigation to water. to subirrigate, just poke holes in the bottom of your container and set the container in a bigger container of water. this helps not to compact the soil so that the roots have room to easily grow.
Thank you so much. I am going to do this for sure. You make it seem easy. I live on the Coast so we have nice days this time of year ans come march, they can be set outside.
i wanted to try making my own pesto sauce so i went to a local market here in california looking to buy fresh basil. the price is quite shocking. you have inspired me to try it on my own.
hey guy, its way way cheaper to grow herbs than buying them in the grocery store. it's actually cheaper to buy the herbs in a pot than cut up and in the grocery store.
hemp is a strain of the cannabis family. it's a great renewable source for oils, paper, rope, clothes, and alot more. It is not suitable for smoking but still gets the bad rep from the uninformed public.
I can't imagine cooking with anything but fresh herbs. Only a pot of basil this year on the patio. Last year the mint almost took over a whole bed. Your basil, in particular, looked beautiful.
Why is it that everything I try to plant either stays scrawny or dies? Seems everyone else can do it........I'm going to be looking at this very carefully 'cause I need all the help I can get!! ;o)
I am now tempted to try growing parsley in my garden. I don't have a lot of sun, but I might try. My window sills are too narrow. I buy a lot of parsley, but a lot of it goes to waste. If I grew it, I might be able just to pick what I needed.
I am impressed that you speak so naturally on your videos. I made one slide show so far, and I said a very little at the beginning, but I was very nervous.
Parsley will grow OK outdoors in the garden, but takes ages to germinate in cool conditions. So may I suggest sowing some in a pot indoors somewhere until it germinates, then when growing well, plant the contents of the pot in the garden without thinning.
I always like how encouraging you are in your videos.
I've just grown basil this year--beautifully fragrant basil. That parsley looks great though! I'll have to give it a go on the weekend. I put parsley on practically everything, much to my husband's horror!
Try growing coriander instead, I think it has a much better flavour than parsley, can be used in many dishes as an alternative, and will be a refreshing change for hubby!
Some people say that corriander (or in my part of the world, it's called Cilantro) is an acquired taste. Before growing it, give it a taste first to see if you like it.
What is your wristband for? I had a thing about collecting them last year LOL
Hmm i want to grow my own herbs on my balcony as its south facing, but having got round to it this year! I eat basil like its going out of fashion, especially in the salad, basil, tomatoes and mozzarella chesse, with olive oil.
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! You are a perfect example for city dwellers. You are definitely part of the revolution! I hope more people see your vid and copy you.

If in a warm shady spot, no. Otherwise a piece of glass, plastic or clingfilm over them will hep keep the compost moist.

Love your video mate, i have a couple quick questions about your herb growing
1)how often did you water the herbs during the month after the inital watering the soil?
2)did you encounter any fungus gnats or thrips getting in the soil or on the herbs?
3)Could you use a liquid seaweed fertilizer with the herbs instead of plain water?
4)could you make some more vids on other herbs or even growing vegis in a pot?
cheers bob

I can't see why basil should be expensive, as it is so easy to grow. Good on you for having a go!

It's true. It's actually quite ridiculous. Here it's roughly $2 for a potted herb, and around $3.50 for a smaller amount of cut herbs.

You should be alright with herbs if you follow the vid. Sow thickly, grow fast and harvest early if you can.
