  • I wish I could use Dvorak, but Qwerty is already ingrained. It's entirely muscle memory... it's hard to unlearn that.

This keyboard looks great, and I hope to get one eventually.

  • Aren't these keyboards pretty expensive compared to even mechanical keyboards?? O_o

  • @blitzkreig000 not really mechanical keyboards are somewhat 150e and topres 200e ( in Finland)

  • its not tenkeyless barf on a bun

  • Listening to this, I was instantly reminded of my old Packard Bell keyboard. I'm going to have to put up a video of it soon, but it sounds EXACTLY like that, but it's... 16 years old and had a tree fall on it, but no one can tell.

  • I gonna get mine soon I love the sound it makes.

  • @Zensuji for a full size keyboard, if you say typing, i think i prefer the realforce keys, dunno why, they seem slightly more spaced out and more comfortbale to type on. The HHKB uses the smae keys but are slightly tighter together, but the form factor of the hhkb pro 2 is very hard to beat :)

  • @takasta I heard from Geekhack that the Realforce is also more smooth feeling?

But the HHKB looks so nice and getting used to the form factor is like geek points which other people might not be able to do... D: If you would only keep one of either the Realforce or the HHKB which one would you keep?

  • @dorkloveS9 its a really hard call to be honest - for typing, the realforce seems much more solid, and slightly smoother, but the HKKB is essentially teh same feel but is slightly lighter in keys and better form factor. I'd keep both haha

  • Topre, buckling springs, Cherry MX Brown/blue/clear/black/red wich is best for gaming???

  • @JeemOfRunescape membrane for runescape

  • @ArimaSenne1 funny comment since i stopped playing it like 2 days after i made this acc

  • I'm going to have to slowly migrate from my current membrane keyboard to this one. I'm so used to hammering keys (especially when gaming), I'd probably break the keys on this one pretty quickly. How durable is it? Do you think it could handle my over-enthusiastic typing?

  • @liamsp544 all mechanical swtich keyboards and capacitative switch keyboards will always last a lot longer than membrane based keyboards! haha

  • @takasta I realize that they are supposed to be have longer lifespans, but what I'm not sure about is if they're intended to be lightly pressed, or are fine with being hammered during intense games?

  • It sounds like it's made out of rubber.

  • @hamburg1ar It's a hybrid design, rubber surrounding a spring, which in turn manipulates an electronic capacitive interface. It's actually quite nice, as you have the benefits of a mechanical keyboard, but without the often loud typing sounds. Not a problem if you live alone, but if you share a room/married, your roomate/spouse can get irritated by the noise.

  • is it suitable for gaming.... because I type alot and play alot

  • @TheDustyRavage yea sure! i love to game on it haha

  • That's pretty cool and all

But can you game on it?

  • @SonarWavePulse of course, why wouldn't you be able to?

  • @crowfaceltd

Heard that some mechanical keyboards are made in a way that the signal from the key isn't constant.

Which means if I was playing cowadoody for example, when I press W, my character would only move one step forward.

    Catch my drift?

  • @SonarWavePulse not that I know of, a good quality mech board will game FINE

  • Omg i love the sound of the keys on this keyboard. I have the wired apple keyboard i love it

  • Yeah, really, I'd also be pissed if I saw someone that didn't rest their fingers on the home row. /sarcasm

  • lol @ complaining on youtube how people type

  • how come you're holding your fingers on the upper row? shouldn't they be in the middle row?

  • @Mropticalgreen haha - i'm not sure just personal preferance i guess

  • @6overclockster9 then i should be typing dvorak now shouldn't i? since it's the "better" way of typing. just personal preference mate don't hate - home row conventional keys of asdfjkl;? w/e suits you haha

  • @6overclockster9 they were designed using qwerty cause back when typewriters were invented, it had to be in a way so that closely used letters didn't get caught up with each other when typing so fast - none other than that. sorry i don't "respect" my keyboard lol

  • @6overclockster9 You have some issues, it's a keyboard! and it's up to him how he types...bit of a petty thing to get upset about don't you think...

  • @6overclockster9

LOL... you are a douchebag. cant believe you even trying to complain about the way he types.

  • @6overclockster9 haha you're such a loser. it's so obvious that you envy the guy for having the financial backup to buy a realforce without hesitation and so you try to lower his pleasure about it even though the only thing you're doing is riding yourself deeper into the shithole called YOUR LIFE.

most people can't/won't spend such a ridiculous amount of money on a keyboard which is just fine, but why can't annoying unhappy people like you just stfu and kill themselfes quietly?

  • @6overclockster9 Do you go on all sorts of keyboard videos and leave negative comments on each one? You're fucking retarded if you care how somebody types on his keyboard. Guess what: I'm not using home row alignment to type this message to you. You gonna fucking baw over the mistreatment of my keyboard?

  • @6overclockster9 fuck you!

  • @6overclockster9 Insecure much?

  • $250 for a keyboard

  • @crimson177 yea, that's how expensive it costs haha - worth every penny

  • @takasta out of curiosity, how do you find this compares to the Model M? I'm considering this or one of Unicomp's Model M clones, but I'm leaning towards the Unicomp because of significantly lower cost ($80 USD or thereabouts).

  • @lovetoeatallthefood they are two very differently feelings. Definitely for the lower cost, go for the model M. Personally though, i never liked the model M feel and preferred cherry mx switches, both blue / brown. But topre are definitely in another level of it's own. :)

  • @takasta sadly, I've never had the opportunity to use a keyboard with Cherry switches (unless that's what the old Dell Quietkeys keyboards used). What's the main difference between them & Model M-style buckling springs - the amount of force required to depress the keys?

  • @lovetoeatallthefood i'd say model M is the equivalent of cherry blacks. Very hard to press down so your fingers get tired quickly. The other cherry switches are relatively soft / easier to press so they're easier on the fingers. I would highly recommend you getting some of them then!

  • @lovetoeatallthefood I have the Unicomp (Model M) Customizer 104, and I love it. I like it much better than my Filco with Cherry "blues." Precisely BECAUSE you must press harder. And I like the tactile feedback of the Buckling Springs––it's much more accurate because the click is definite, as opposed to the Cherries that actuate so high up. And the fact that you barely need to tap them leads (IMO) to typing errors. I don't feel my fingers getting tired at all after a long period of time.

  • I just got one of these yesterday....truly amazing. Looks and sounds exactly like in your video! I got the 55g version and I can't be happier. These are the best keyboards on earth!

  • @mrsone2000 I just got mine yesterday actually, but mine seems to be twice as loud. I'm trying not to bottom out the keys, but even then, they're still somewhat loud.

  • @Mnemosyn3 The board is very loud when you first get it. Give it about a week of moderate use and the keys will be a little softer and easier to press.

  • I'm loving the sound of these Topre switches.

  • Is your keyboard the one that is all 55 gram weighted?

  • @mrsone2000 it's mixed 35/45/55

  • Hi takasta,

Which do you prefer for SPEED only.

    Cherry or Topre switches?

  • @redalf cherry blues are a pretty good fit for speed, but topre switches are just as goo

  • @takasta What about blue vs brown? I hear brown is a good combo for those looking for a good all-rounder (gaming and fair bit of typing).

  • @EliteSoldier112 yea brown is a pretty good switch to start out with if you haven't used mechanical keyboards before. Both are adequate for both typing and gaming, the browns have a bit more of a softer touch to them. It's really hard to describe the feeling so really have to see for yourself haha

  • @takasta rofl, yea I was afraid you'd say something along those lines. What about noise? The blue looks to be louder and have that clicky noise that the brown doesn't have? You think I can try out the MX brown keyboard from Elite Keyboards and exchange it for an MX blue if I'm not satisfied?

  • @EliteSoldier112

I don't think Elitekeyboards do exchange if you don't like it. They do replace defective ones, but I don't think they will exchange a perfectly working keyboard.

  • Ci, if you aircon sound so loud in this video, does it mean that the keyboard is actually quite silent?

  • @wildreams that's actually what it sounds like - and yea it's relatively silent

  • Is that a jet engine running in your background?

  • @wildreams i think it was my air con

  • Pretty nice. :) i have the apple keyboard but i think i might go try a different keyboard this keybaord gets dirty so damn fast

  • Hi... What keyboard do you prefer more, your Filco or the Topre? Also, I wasn't sure what kind of Cherry switch your FIlco uses (the one you took video of)... the model number suggested Cherry Brown switches, but you tagged the videos with "Blue". Please let me know!

  • @rayray097 yea the filco that i used were of browns, i do also have blues but i haven't made a video of them. I definitely prefer the typing on topre key switches more so than cherry key switches.

  • @takasta I see... Thanks for letting me know. Since you also have the Blue, are the Topres better than the Blue as well?

  • @rayray097 they're all different switches, espcially topre vs cherry, both blue / black / brown / red, etc. The topre switches are definitely my favorite. But there's a price to pay for them and it's quite a premium one. Definitley do not regret owning a topre keyboard though. Some might not like the feel of it, but if I were to choose the keyboard I would take everywhere, it would be the tenkeyless version reforece (87u)

  • do you bottom out with this keyboard alot? what about in this clip?

  • yea

  • it didn't seem like you were bottoming out in the clip i guess

  • that's what topre keyboards sound like when they bottom out lol

  • Well at least it has full height keys

  • eww rubber dome! the worst keyboars ever... but cool sound

  • ialthough it's a rubber dome - they use topre key switches which are of capacitative nature. one of the more expensive keyboards out there look it up

  • i know they are expensive i just like old ibm model m and model f keyboards. they last forever and have a nice feel though. they are also very loud. right now im using a very old dell keyboard that is buckling spring like model m and model f.

  • haha, these are awfully quiet by all standards - even compared to rubber dome keyboards

  • i probably need to upgrade my keyboard. on the back it says it was mede in 1996

  • support NKRO (n-key rollover) ?

  • the limit for usb connection is 6 keys - so no i don't think

  • Thanks for posting this. Now I can admire this keyboard until I can finally get one :D I have an 87U and love it, but I'm one of those weird people who like to have a number pad.

  • haha. I'd glady take your 87U over this one, but preferably black though :P. It's definately a good board but personally i prefer a tenkeyless board than full sized. the RF tenkeyless was just so much more expensive than the fullsize haha, thats what i got this 1.

  • My 87U just happens to be the black version too, lol. It makes make me feel strange for wanting to trade the most sought after Realforce for the less expensive version, but to be honest, I would have bought the 103UB out of preference it it were available when I got my tenkeyless.

  • lol, where you located? I'm in HK haha. If you're serious about it, i woulldn't mind a trade :P

  • I'm in the US, so I guess the overseas shipping costs would kind of kill it :(

  • lol indeed it would.

  • Are you a member of the geekhack forums?

  • yep, under name takasta as well.

  • why do u prefer tenkeyless?

  • i prefer tenkeyless because it allows for more room for your mouse and it's more comfortable to game that way. Also, many times you may not really need the keypad.

  • yes, i agree with that 100%. but on the 103 i was thinking of moving from wasd to something like pl;' maybe, where the activation force is also lower. Since i do need a numpad

  • actually esdf is what i use not wasd

  • Comment removed

  • I like the fact that it's black on black but the form factor is not my type =[ So I went with the HHKB =D

    Nice video!

  • I was considering getting the HHKB, but price was realforce was cheaper and seemed to be much better built. But i agree that the HHKB definately wins on form factor wise.
