This far, ive only seen 2 countrys were LARPing makes sence... that is Sweden, and France. Yes there are rules, however, some poeple actually beleive they can fight when they really cant, hence you hear some "machine gun hit" where alot of hits are made very fast. That's not supposed to happen.

As for rule systeme, there are no defenite rule systeme, every different LARP makes its own rules. The base is that you ahve Hit Points and every strike remove X damage, where X is the ammount said by your oppoenent. Into that comes skills and spells. Just seek out a LARP near you for info

Second, while I do agree more believable replicas should be used, using metal weapons and/or wooden shields would likely result in serious injury and lawsuits.
