It was actually a useless stalemate, but no matter, by the 1990s, Iran was able to wipe the floor with Iraq in a military sense. The two countries went in opposite directions in terms of military and technological buildup, Iran progressing forward and Iraq spiralling downward. As a Greek who loves and admires Persians, I am simply happy that our two countries are united against the ever marauding Turkey. Make no mistake about it, Iran now takes its place among the world powers.
