  • still rocking with my gtx 480 SLI :D

  • still happy with my 6850 :V

  • @lwierd Me too lol.

  • LMAO click the link after 7970 in the description and look at the end of the address bar

  • Im happy with my 6970!

  • Fuck santa, Dear Paul

  • I have a question about the switch: when I put it to the 'overclock' bios, it means the GPU is already overclocked, or it means I unlocked it so I can further overclock it??

  • Even with my steady job, I couldn't hope to own one of these any time soon :C

  • haha paul in glasses

  • i have two of these in my very first build :):):):):):)

  • @eurosonly Hell yea me too! What processor do you have?

  • awesome card

  • i need a job....

  • I know what I want for my birthday...

  • Step 1. Eat bread for a month.

    Step 2. Buy the 7970.

  • @RqEdits Great plan! I'll actually start now! :D

  • I would take it from a geek all night long to get one of these or one of the yet to be released 7990

  • I'll wait about 5 years

  • Can I trade a kidney for one?

  • Woah...Paul with glasses? When did this happen!

  • I'm still happy as fuck with my 6970

  • my gtx 580 is enough

  • So, what level PSU should I get if I wanted to Crossfire two of these with an AMD FX-8150 and four sticks of 8G DDR3 RAM? I tried to run it on the Newegg calculator, but it came up with 1450W, which seemed excessive, even for this. Could someone confirm that or otherwise estimate what wattage power supply would be best for that setup? Thanks.

  • @Androctonid A good 850w psu would probably do the trick.

I recommend the corsair AX850 from Corsair.

  • @silvervolt7 actually this seems like the gtx 580 so it should run at 900w atleast

  • @XxXPenrdXxX that's the wonderful thing about the 7970...

It performs better than the 580, takes less power, and runs cooler.

  • @silvervolt7 doesnt the 580 need a 500W psu to run it and the 7970 also needs a 500w to run so wouldn't the CFX need about 900W like the 580?

    -----(other rant VVV)------

I just can wait for the 8xxx from amd and the 8xx from nvidia. I swear gaming on any of these high end cards are pure overkill. So why people are arguing about 2 extra frames.

  • @XxXPenrdXxX I'm not sure about the exact wattages, but I saw someone run crossfired 7970's on a 750w power supply just fine.

  • @silvervolt7 It mostly depends on the gfx card. Remember some 580s are factory oc or "modded" it uses more than the norm. I mostly build systems with the 3gb 580s so ya... more power needed and the regular 1.5 gb that nvidia says its enough lame.

And for any gfx card(mostly the high ends) its best for headroom of 200w for these sweet oc'ing.

  • @Androctonid I have a corsair AX850, they are great power supplies (I run a single GTX580 on mine). 750w is the bare minimum you could get by with, but I would recommend something with at least 1,000w. Maybe an AX1250 from corsair. I would also check out some of the new 80+ platinum power supplies if I were you.

  • @TABerselli remember that these recomendations have some safety clearance, the PSU is capable of supplying more power than 850w (a good PSU can, at least) and the card consumes less tham 300w (not OC'ed) so a 850w PSU should be more than enough

  • @Mudux Your right. I wasn't thinking when I posted the comment. The power rating on power supplies is less than what it can actually do. When you get even more efficient power supplies, like the particular one I have, they claim it produces much less than it really can because it must achieve the proclaimed efficiency at the proclaimed wattage. My PSU can do about 1k watts, it just falls below 80+ gold power rating past 850w. I hope this made sense, you brought up a very good point.

  • want.

  • I had to check olld vids to make sure you havn't always worn glasses

  • WOW!! this dude is getting skinny. see people making fun of fatties helps them out in the long run.

  • beautiful.....

  • "Just shy of 11 inches as you can see there, at the end of the measuring stick" LOL I will never use the world ruler again.

  • @DaBurntToaster exactly what I was thinking

  • Paul looks like he is getting ready to teach at Hogswartts

he would root for slytherin no doubt

  • but will it blend? no, it wont, the real question is does it beat nvidias next card?

  • Fuck santa Dear lotto ticket, win now give me money

  • Too much HD HD HD :D

  • I got yesterday mine. OMG!

  • Really want that card but alas, I've hit the ceiling of what my CPU/power supply/case could possibly manage. My next upgrade will have to be a brand new system. My GTX 560ti will tide me over for now.

  • I have 2 of these in cross fire :D... i would love to say...

  • @Fe0lig Can i have one please :'(

this makes my 6870 look like shit

  • @jimmypc4242 lol notice the "I would love to say"

  • @Fe0lig Still...... can you buy me one and you can keep the other? =D =D =D (you know you want to)

  • Holy.Shit.

  • will it fit in the haf x 942?

  • how much for the card

  • This is worth more than my entire computer itself.

  • When are the nVidia cards that support PCie 3.0 coming out??

  • @PunctualProletariat Never. They're scheduled for 2013 but... well we all know it'll be too late by then.

  • DEAR JESUS..

  • Diamond warranty is great, if you can haggle with the reps to get your repairs approved, they will repair anything. I bought a diamond Radeon card on ebay - it was defective - called up diamond, they told me I have to be the original owner to qualify for warranty, so I told them I was, I then asked the seller for the original invoice - made a few changes and VOILA, repairs were approved and I got a replacement card bout 2 weeks later!!!

  • @romefox the card came home defective? i hope you gave that a seller a piece of your mind.

  • @lendial At first I was livid but I approached the seller politely and we agreed that if she (the seller) could provide me with the required invoice etc... that I would not leave negative feedback and so she cooperated and she also offered to replace the item in the event that Diamond does not approve the repairs. It could have been a messy situation but it actually worked to my benefit. Thats prob more info then you cared to know - lol - but thats how it went down : )

  • DEAR SANTA..

  • @SspnddAccnt Dear santa - I will trade you my liver for this GPU.

I assume this is what you were gonna say, because that's what I thought :D

  • @SspnddAccnt too late :p

  • @bomfunk1991 For last year yes.. BUt always time for this YEAR! Wohoooo

  • @SspnddAccnt WOW, DEAR SANTA.. PLEASE GIVE PEOPLE ON YOUTUBE ORIGINAL COMMENTS..

  • I WANT ONE!!

  • Kewl glasses Paul :3

  • first time I saw him w/ glasses.. eyes going bad?

  • Paul, how did it feel to kill Voldemort?

  • i have hd6870's myself, and i can support 8 monitors, thay are 1G-256bit-gddr5, did i mention it supports 8 monitors at once, just saying that if your looking for a great video card, well i am happy with what i have, everyone on my block envys me. what more could i ask for.

my specs: 890fxa-ud5, 1090T, my advive, get informed b4 you shop, retailers for the most are a scam

  • @stephmc111 Did I mention a single 6870 ONLY supports up to 5 screens?

  • @123thepyro123 actually i have two 6870's and thay only support four screens, again i have two of them

  • sweet!!...

  • incredible card!

  • Just a little question, if i bought this and used it with my intel i7 920 quad core 2,6ghz; would i be able to play battlefield 3 on ultra graphics ( and1920x1080)?

  • @impvr1 yeah

  • @impvr1 Probably not, I've got 2x gtx560 in sli, which is like 10 to 15% faster than a single gtx580. The 7970 is about 20% faster than the gtx580. That means that if I can't play it comfortably with 2 gtx560, you probably won't be able to play it comfortably with the 7970 on ultra settings.

  • @4ndr01d99 Wrong, I'm playing BF3 mp at 1920x1200 on ultra preset, and I'm averaging roughly 60-70 fps on average with dips in the high 40's in intense combat. Also, a 7970 is actually around 20 to 30% faster with premature drivers and at STOCK speeds. The 7970 is an overclocking beast and guru3d have OC'd some that surpass the 580 by more than 40%, especially at higher resolutions. Wait till drivers mature, this card will be approaching 590 levels with a good OC in a matter of months.

  • @4ndr01d99 BF3 is a Vram hog and many cards lower than 2GB hit walls because of this. The 560's barely having a 1GB, this is why you can't play the game comfortably, you're hitting a wall with Vram. The 7970 has 3GB allowing plenty of vram headroom.

  • @SuperStrive60 I've seen Mars II having problems with it. If i'm not wront, this is 3gb.

  • @4ndr01d99 You're right, it's 3GB.However with the 7970, users running eyeinfinity set-ups have reported that total vram usage on ultra settings tops out at just over 2gb, even at insane resolutions. 1GB left over is still plenty. SLI does seem to have issues with multiple monitors, unlike crossfire which just scales better overall. Also, remember that the 680 and 7970 differ greatly in terms of architecture.

  • @impvr1 course i use my 5970 be ultra all the way solid 60fps

  • there withholding technology , we could have way faster cards but every time a new card comes out , it's just a little better then the previous generation , it's always better to skip a few generation our else your wasting money for just a few FPS more , it's goes against Moores law this should beat at least the hd 6990 in every benchmark it's overprice and no backplate

  • That's a shame it doesn't have the new HDMI1.4B port on it. Or is that just the newest standerd? Are there things with HDMI1.4B yet?

  • WE'RE JUST SHY OF 11 INCHES, PAUL!!!

  • so now im 100% sure u can use this videocard in gen2 slots , the question now is should i buy a new mobo for gen3 ? as i`ve undestand with just 1 of em there isn`t big diffrence from gen2 to gen3 , plus i don`t have the money to buy ivy bridge processor , i have a 2500k Xd (sorry for bad eng)

  • WHATS ON THE COUPON I NEED TO KNOW!

  • Oh wow it is 1080 hd capable? It's a most buy now! -_-

  • OMFG

  • I FUCKING WANT THIS.

  • 2:58 - He flipped me off.

  • CrossfireX supports 4 GPU's Paul.

  • PCI 3.0 and 3gb ddr5 is really over kill on alot of games but everything will be moving this way soon. Games havent caught up with this tech yet. I got BF3 on ultra running 100+ fps on dual 6950s. Even that is way to much power. My cpu doesnt even access all the cores. It's $560 which is also prohibitive. If you are a E-peen guy then this is what you want I guess just to show people how high your Benchmark is.

  • @chaznoodles so unless you work for pixar and you are making toy story 4 by yourself on your system this is not something a gamer would want. I could spend half as much and get 2 cards and still have way more then I would need for games for at least a year and a half.

  • How much power does this card consume?

  • @kunstderfugue enough to make your mom suck my Wang

  • Am I the only person who thought he said too many rather than two mini?

  • I always buy middle to mid upper stuff... Mark my words, this will be 200 dollars cheaper and there will be a much better card 5 months down the road.

  • @Chawwwwwley

doubt that, 200$ cheaper would put it at where the 6970's are at right now, and how long have those been out?

  • @Chawwwwwley Nope. Video cards like this hardly ever drop in price, certainly not within 5 months.

Look at the 580. It's been $600 for how long? Over a year?

But you're right about a better card in 5 months. Once Nvidia releases their new series. But it will also cost a LOT more.

  • I don't know what half the ports are for like I know what express port is and what the power ports are but I dont know some of the others is there a vid for an explanation of it

  • Too bad that newegg is taking advantage of it. It's way overpriced.

  • @malinko35 Poor bro?

  • @MrMaffle No, I could buy 2 of them right now if I wanted to. I'd rather buy another card with way better performance/price ratio.

    U fotm buyer bro?

  • @malinko35 maybe others can't?

  • Dem glasses....mmmm dem glasses....

    lol

  • @Newegg what do i have to do to get one of those fancy Newegg travel mugs i keep seeing on your Paul's vidoes?

  • Finally! ill be getting mine next month. (when they are back in stock). oh and kennylol-yes it will.

  • should i buy this or a gtx590/amd6990?

  • @Jamielebleu1 your gonna be much more happy with a 580gtx

  • @Jamielebleu1 2 of these cards will be better then both!

  • Special Guest: Paul's Glasses

  • I commented just because of the video disc.

  • btw.. who noticed that Paul wear glasses ? :)

  • @aspirinemaga WHO NOTICED PAUL'S SOUL PATCH?!

  • @aspirinemaga

not me until u said something lol

  • i don't know what to buy almost 3 months ... gtx, now have dillema on that ati 7970

  • will this card run on a PCI E 2.0 motherboard?

  • @Kennylol yes he say it in the video

  • Now NVIDIA is going to bring their next generation out and AMD's prices will drop instantly. Same thing every year. Anyway I'm still super pleased with the HD5870 and my Phenom II X4 955 BE. I'll probaly wait a year or two until I upgrade

  • so what i don't get, is why ATI makes a card that has PCI-E 3.0 card but AMD has no mother board/cpu that supports it wft AMD QQ. Well you don't need the PCI E 3.0 slot cause this card is backwards compadible to 2.0 and there is not a huge difference maybe a few hundred point with most bench marks test and a few frames unless your running at a res higher then 1600x1080 then the differnce is noticeable in frames

  • @DamiontheSpawn who doesnt run games on 1080p...

  • @Aznganxter1 I don't, I got a triple monitor display running at 7680x1600 so i need triple the GPU power and a really fast bandwith speed from my proc to my card hence the pci e3.0 is needed

  • @Aznganxter1 are you stupid? there are so many people who can't afford themselves monitors that support 1080p. me for example. i guess you're just a spoiled american kid, be happy that you can afford yourself a good computer and a monitor. i'd be, for sure.

  • @StimmedRoach sorry...but I didn't think this was the place for mourning

  • @oConshien mourning? sorry i don't know what that means... anyway..

  • @StimmedRoach so you are stupid...not just that you didn't know what it meant, but that you didn't think to google it...smh

  • @oConshien sorry for me being ignorant, but english is not my native language. saying that i am stupid is equal to me saying you're stupid because you do not know my language. i guess mourning means something like whining. i am too lazy to google it. i guess you're the one stupid now, sir.

  • @StimmedRoach Mourning is similar to the mental state of depression, as it means to be sad about someone close to you who has died recently. "John still mourns the death of his grandfather." Something like that. Either way, it's directly linked to both sadness and recent death.

  • @DamiontheSpawn and PCI-E 3.0 really has no gain anyway so it don't mater really it cant use all PCI-E 2.0 band with :)

  • lol the back vents r not for intake XD

  • I assume the gtx 670 will be better, once it comes out (I'm saying this because the 570 was way better than 6970)

  • @GOcgyFLAMESgo

Are you confusing card numbers? The 570 is on par with the 6970.

  • @GTRagnarok its supposed to be but the 570 has a small performance advantage over the 6970

  • @GOcgyFLAMESgo

It depends on the game. Some games the 570 wins, other games the 6970 wins.

  • For such an expensive card, thats some pretty shitty packaging.

  • My Radeon 6570 doing fine atm, I'll wait and get a 460 or 6580

  • @iUnitedpk I'd get a 6870 over a what ? 6580 ? didn't even know they made those...but anyway.

Looks like I got something to really look forward to, since I'll be upgrading from an HD4890 LOL.

  • @Sphoxros I meant 6850 haha

  • @iUnitedpk Ah lol simple mistake :D lols

  • Nice card but i think my 5970 will last me a while longer

  • My XFX and PowerColor are on the way! Crossfire FTW!

  • Dont get DIAMOND lol.. theyre bad imo.. CMIIW

  • I bought 2 of these 20 seconds after they released it on newegg!

  • i hate it how every time i buy "the best" graphics card, sometime later a better one comes out, thanks a lot Moore's law.....

  • @rcmaniac10 it just means the previous generation's "best" get cheaper :)

  • @rcmaniac10 My best card was and is the hd5970 lm on ultra at bf3 except the texture and shades that are at high, no aa but sampling aa is on high so image is very smooth, and reso is 1920x1080 l swear is grate and runs 70fps no problem! now tell me why the fak should l buy a new one? When l will replace my hd5970 it means that crysis 2 is the new minecraft! lol

  • @rcmaniac10 lol@moores law. i love comments like this.

  • @rcmaniac10 I bough a 5970 and its still great for me, faster then the gtx580 and almost 3years old. Works for me! But I got a new 2500k i5 (overclocks amazingly!)

  • @Danny7930 sorry but your 5970 is not nowhere near a 580....

  • @HandicappedMind No the 5970 is for sure better. The 580 has a higher minimum fps though

  • Paul is growing up so fast...

  • AMD wheres the fuckin dx12 you promised!!! no need to buy this then, I still have a hd5870, more than enough.

  • I'm sticking with my 5770 till I see what nvidia brings and there are some price drops.

  • @booobp Nvidia will be releasing their low end cards first so it will be awhile before any mini price war happens.

  • Not a bad price for the power but I always tend to go with Nvidia. No doubt this is a nice card though.

  • WHOOOO!

  • $559 is actually lower than i thought it would be. good price considering

  • CMON 600 SERIES NVIDIA!

  • @gabrielkipp77 hahaha fool

  • measuring stick!

  • so can i put this card into a 16x gen2 slot ? or it works only on 3gen slot ?

  • @bogdan19902 it will work in a gen2

  • @onedollarbill94 thx for the info :D

  • @bogdan19902

it works as well on a 16x gen2 slot as on a gen3 slot and even on the same output so you have no problem to get the full performance !! No need for a gen3 board atm !
