The refs on the field should know that they don't make the final calls....the officials in the booth do. UT and UNC both played an OK game and could have went either way. UT had their chances in the overtimes but didin't finish. Anyway, this game will go down in history. I wish this series wasn't cancelled, I would've loved to have seen these two play the next few seasons.

Bigdaddy, as a UNC fan I understand the frustration that rules between the NCAA and the NFL are not the same. A lot of rules between the 2 leagues are not the same. You have to admit, that UT, got away with a VERY late hit in the second to last play of the game as well, if that call was made, which it should've been, they're probably wouldn've not been a last play as there was. With the rules in place, UNC did get penalized for too many on the field, but did spike the ball before time expired.

There was no ref mistakes in the final moments, BUT there were mistakes (see youtube vid SPORTSMANSHIP tyler bray) The NCAA HEAD Offical backed up all calls that night. And it wasnt the penilty it was the SPIKE that stopped the ball. And on the ref standing over the ball thing, tenn had no intention of subbing so that was not needed. And yall had two overtimes to win. But besides that QBs cockyness yall got a good one, he beat us over the middle for 2 TDs if i remember right.

I do blame the ruling... not the refs themselves. They did officiate it "correctly" with the clock thing. I didn't know there is no runoff in college football like the NFL.
Bottom line: in college football when the offensive team makes a substitution the ump is supposed to stand over the ball and give the defense a fair opportunity to substitute and match personnel. TICK TOCK GAME OVER. We got fucked out of two wins this year the same way, and I am pissed as hell about it. You would be too.

I was wondering if you also checked out the terrible call on the play where Janzen Jackson got the personal foul? i was at the game and they didnt replay it in the stadium but when i got home i watched the review of that play and the unc player caught the ball, got one foot down, then when jackson hit him he lost posession, came off the ground, his face mask lands OUT OF BOUNDS 1st, THEN while on the ground regains possession.it clearly wasnt a catch. thats the call that screwed us

I was 26 rows from this on the same yard line. There were more than the camera shown on the field. There had to be 20 men. It was LSU all over again. How in the world do we end up being penalized if EITHER team has too many men on the field? These refs were terrible the whole game, they must have stopped the clock and added an extra 2 min. during the game, but it would have been nice had Lincoln just made the extra point.

UNC was penalized accordingly as per NCAA rules. This was a college bowl game, not an NFL game. Although, I did question as to why you would call a running play when you don't have any timeouts. But regardless, the officials in the booth were accurate and correct with the time that they put back on the clock. Both teams had equal opportunity in overtime. UNC capitalized, Tennessee didn't. It's not the end of the world. It's just a bowl game. Get over it!

I believe Derek Dooley will have the team in good shape but his game plan when we had the ball with 1:36 left in the fourth quarter was TERRIBLE. We ran 3 times and the defensive play call afterwards was also terrible. I guess that is the result of a first year head coach. Next year we are winning the SEC!!! GO VOLS

It doesn't matter how many players are on the field, man. If they are running off and not part of the play, than it is just a 5 yard penalty and since they snapped the ball with 1 sec left, the penalty was enforced from there. It was the right call for the rules. Perhaps a 10 sec. runoff needs to be made, but the call was correct for the situation.

@AMPLIGHTNING No all that means is the ruling on the field is that the game is over. Right after that he announced the play was under review. In addition, refs cannot declare the game is over like that if there is any question about the play.

I think the end of the game had far more huge inexusable mistakes by TN that influenced the game than it did bad calls by the officials. I mean the only call in question is that final play and even BVD says it couldve been called either way and been "right". TN lost focus late. Three 15 yd penalties late, giving up a huge pass play with 30 secs left, a missed PAT, and a huge late INT is what lost TN this game. Im surprised TN fans would expect to win a game after all those miscues that late.
Yeah, the whole standing over the ball issue is what screwed Tennessee during the LSU game. But it's all fun, and the kids shined for a few moments in front of millions of people, so what more can you ask for?
actually it is a 5 yard illegal substitution penalty when there are just more than 11 players on the field, it is a 15 yard illegal participation penalty when more than 11 players are set "when the play is in motion" as unc clearly had 12, we got hosed out of 10 extra penalty yards too along with the official not standing over the ball

Im a Vol Fan. This is not Refs fault. This is Tennessee's fault. If i Recall we had the ball on the 50? 45 ? Yard line. We had the ball we were winning With Uhh 3:50 left 20-17? And I Am guessing most of this, just it's been so long. We ran the ball 3 times burnt about 30 seconds off when we should have pass atleast once. But we played way to conservative! So we punt it to the endzone touch back that left unc with like 3 mins to score!!! Thats wimpy Play calling on Dooley's PArt!

Here's a UNC fans response for you that you asked for. I was at the game. Section 136. You say UT could have put the game away several times?? HOW?? We got up 7-0 early and we picked a pass by Bray. If we dont fumble that ball on the return it could have gotten ugly for UT.
Also you seem to forget Carolina had 12 penalties itself in this game. 4 more than UT. Including a roughing the passer flag that was very questionable on you guys' scoring drive. Kept the drive alive.

I do blame the ruling... not the refs themselves. They did officiate it "correctly" with the clock thing. I didn't know there is no runoff in college football like the NFL.

Bottom line: in college football when the offensive team makes a substitution the ump is supposed to stand over the ball and give the defense a fair opportunity to substitute and match personnel. TICK TOCK GAME OVER. We got fucked out of two wins this year the same way, and I am pissed as hell about it. You would be too.

It wasn't a bad call... just bad rules. To all the UNC fans congrats. To my felllow Vol fans.. get over it. It was the MCB. Get excited for next year. Bray, Justin Hunter, Da'Rick Rodgers, all the O Line return next year. We have ALOT of young talent. We will be competing for an SEC title in 2012. If we have some luck on our side maybe next year.

@BigVOLdaddy I will admit that I am still pissed about Tyler Bray's throat slashing which didn't get penalized considering he did it right in front of the head ref (we can agree that guy has some issues though). But from watching your video it seems that we both have issues with Bray's poor decision to behave like that. It's hard for me to say that I disagree with the way the refs handled the last :26 of the game since it resulted in a bowl victory for me, but it is a definite gray area

@BigVOLdaddy I had the good fortune of being at that game in the unc band and my perspective is of course biased, but after that LSU game at the beginning of the year and all the crap the NCAA put us through - wrongly, I might add - we've done real well and come a long way. Thanks for not being a poor sport, I don't think you're a whiner at all. If it had been the other way around, had the refs not reviewed the time, I would be pissed off too. But there wouldn't be talk of a rule change then

I agree, a rule change is in order here, but not a :10 run-off like the NFL, I've always thought :10 is way way excessive. How bout a :05 run off for the NCAA. I'm just glad you aren't like some of the other UT fans i've come across that have said the refs made a poor call here. Every thing was called correctly, it's just a shitty rule to begin with

I was wondering if you also checked out the terrible call on the play where Janzen Jackson got the personal foul? i was at the game and they didnt replay it in the stadium but when i got home i watched the review of that play and the unc player caught the ball, got one foot down, then when jackson hit him he lost posession, came off the ground, his face mask lands OUT OF BOUNDS 1st, THEN while on the ground regains possession.it clearly wasnt a catch. thats the call that screwed us

@tjack2themax527 oh yah, i saw it...but you cant review penaltys and when it happened live i was screamin at janzen.....the refs dont have the benefit of replay until they actually see one, so at full speed, i think we all would have made the same call...i've had a few days to think about all this and im doing a final video about it tonight...hope you'll watch

The refs let the Vols get away with late hits, that cry baby QB (see sideline after the game) taunted the UNC sideline which should have got him a 15 yrd unsportsmanlike conduct (see Kansas St game). they were constantly talking crap, throwing drinks, food, ect at UNC fans, calling UNC cheaters, attempted to start fights and in some instances actually doing so. I know it wasn't all UT fans. I talked to a few on the way out and they were great people, upset about the loss, which I understand, but still kept their composure. So BigGuy, this isn't a message to you but to all the idiot UT fans that actions reflected the above...grow up and represent your school in a positive..

I have to say, you make good arguments throughout your video. I was at the game, I also have it filmed and need to go back and view it again. The whole time issue with two many guys, its not the NFL so that doesn't matter. Did UNC even sub anyone out on that play? I thought just in...? Anyways, the game happened, nothing can be done. I do have to say, some of the UT fans...not all but enough to imprint a long lasting opinion, need to learn how to handle themselves after a game..

I was 26 rows from this on the same yard line. There were more than the camera shown on the field. There had to be 20 men. It was LSU all over again. How in the world do we end up being penalized if EITHER team has too many men on the field? These refs were terrible the whole game, they must have stopped the clock and added an extra 2 min. during the game, but it would have been nice had Lincoln just made the extra point.

UNC was penalized accordingly as per NCAA rules. This was a college bowl game, not an NFL game. Although, I did question as to why you would call a running play when you don't have any timeouts. But regardless, the officials in the booth were accurate and correct with the time that they put back on the clock. Both teams had equal opportunity in overtime. UNC capitalized, Tennessee didn't. It's not the end of the world. It's just a bowl game. Get over it!

I believe Derek Dooley will have the team in good shape but his game plan when we had the ball with 1:36 left in the fourth quarter was TERRIBLE. We ran 3 times and the defensive play call afterwards was also terrible. I guess that is the result of a first year head coach. Next year we are winning the SEC!!! GO VOLS

@TheMemphisSlim rulebook goes onto to say that if the replay official deems there is time that needs to be added to the clock at the end of the half or the end of the game he can tell the ref that and time will be added. Rocky Goode said this in an interview (SEC official for 35 years)

It doesn't matter how many players are on the field, man. If they are running off and not part of the play, than it is just a 5 yard penalty and since they snapped the ball with 1 sec left, the penalty was enforced from there. It was the right call for the rules. Perhaps a 10 sec. runoff needs to be made, but the call was correct for the situation.

@AMPLIGHTNING No all that means is the ruling on the field is that the game is over. Right after that he announced the play was under review. In addition, refs cannot declare the game is over like that if there is any question about the play.

@AMPLIGHTNING Dude, you didn't pay attention to what I said did you. I am a high school ref in Tenn. and I know high school and college rules, dumbass. The ref cannot declare a game over in college. The game is over when the clock hits zero. If there is a close play, than it is automatically reviewed (like a b-ball buzzer beater). The ref was told that they were still reviewing the play upstairs, so he had to get back on the mike and say "the play is under review." Pretty common sens

I think the end of the game had far more huge inexusable mistakes by TN that influenced the game than it did bad calls by the officials. I mean the only call in question is that final play and even BVD says it couldve been called either way and been "right". TN lost focus late. Three 15 yd penalties late, giving up a huge pass play with 30 secs left, a missed PAT, and a huge late INT is what lost TN this game. Im surprised TN fans would expect to win a game after all those miscues that late.

actually it is a 5 yard illegal substitution penalty when there are just more than 11 players on the field, it is a 15 yard illegal participation penalty when more than 11 players are set "when the play is in motion" as unc clearly had 12, we got hosed out of 10 extra penalty yards too along with the official not standing over the ball
