I always thought "assault rifle" was a pretty vague term... Lols @ "you can assault anybody, with any gun".. but I do get the point of this video... it's funny tho.. you can have an "assault stick " or "assault potato" or "assault soup can" if you know how to use it... :)... my weapon of choice... the "assault spork", a very versatile piece of equipment.. useful in almost any situation, being culinary, combat, or otherwise.
I wouldn't be using an AR for 500 yard shots in an urban environment or anywhere else. It would come down to how good a shot are you. In all honestly an assault rifle on steel sights are a 100-200 yard weapon. Their advantage is they can lay out a lot of lead, they are built to take punishment and work in all kinds of conditions and third as a psycological deterrent. Like NutnFancy said everyone knows what a Black gun is for.

Interesting, thoughtful video. One problem that a lot of preppers/survivalists ignore is that we may have law enforcement personnel confiscating guns in a SHTF scenario. It happened in New Orleans post-Katrina. How do we deal with this? If I needed a gun to defend my family against criminals, anyone attempting to take it from me would become a target. To avoid that situation, I would keep long guns inside my house and only carry a concealable weapon outside.

I would argue that need doesn't enter the equation. Simply wanting a battle rifle should drive the decision whether or not to buy one IMO. With home invasions on the rise, I not only want a battle rifle, but need one. A shot gun is effective to about 60-80 yards in an urban setting, but what happens if you're forced to migrate to a wide open area? At that point you would need a battle rifle for defense and or hunting. In a SHTF scenario conditions will change quickly so stay flexible.

I agree with you. The neighbors thing is really dependent on your relationship with your neighbors. I live in suburbia and that places me in a very different game plan. We are about defining borders and defending a specific area. There are plans in place for food, supplies, and specific duties for everyone. an AK with a few drum magazines does send a message. Also an assault rifle at close range at full muzzle velocity is very devastating. Much more than a handgun. A shot gun is nice to have as well but if I had a choice for shtf I would want an assault rifle. For home defense against 1 or 2 bad guys a shotgun fits very well. As always the first step is to at least have something. to many people are unarmed sheep. Good point about the food no need to advertise ANYTHING.
The point about a high-powered round is an incredibly valid one that I hadn't considered, though. Put on a show with a large round for the average civilian who hasn't been around gunfire and they'll probably turn tail twice as fast and reconsider ever coming back. Especially if you're accurate with it.

More to the point, you don't have an assault rifle, you have a semi-auto carbine. Fairly accurate, easy to maneuver with, operate, and reload. Unless you,( and a LOT of your friends)are planning a large scale assault of something,you don't need anything more.
Ammunition consumption alone of a large assault makes them prohibitive for civilians to conduct.Not to mention all the artillery and support needed to succeed.
SHTF,most of us will be in a more defensive posture, bunkered up, and head down.

while I believe a shotgun would be about the best option for self defense when dealing with ur usually civilian but what if u had to deal with a enemy at close range wearing body armor, bulletproof vest or trama plates? besides slugs, what shotgun ammo can penetrate full trama plate body armor?
Sending rifle rounds down range in an highly populated urban area is a dangerous thing to do and is not needed. Most threats will occur at less then 5 yards and a shotgun is king at that distance. If you really think you will need to take out someone 5 blocks away, a scoped hunting rifle would serve you better, but someone at that distance is probably not a threat to you and killing him is murder, even in SHTF or WROL. Once the shooting starts they will find an easier target.

i disagree with having a fully semi auto rifle..in my area we have 10 ak's, 3 sks' and 2 ar's 10 & 15 in my neighborhood alone..i say get the most and best because you never know what the next person has. i am currently saving up to but another ak and 2 sks myself. i plan on having enough just in case i need it.

@EFG44 You obviously have never fired an AR15 or anything in a similar platform. I have both an AR-15 and an AK-M, I dont clean my AR NEARLY as much as I should and it has not 'Jammed" or malfunctioned once. Also, "Overheating"?.. you cannot overheat a Semi Automatic AR15. In a scenario like this, of course you could not constantly maintain your firearm, but even still it takes alot of abuse and neglect to get to that point.

@SoccerBalbus Fired 2 20 round mags in quick concession, I could feel the heat coming off the handguard. Put another 20 round mag in and it wouldn't fire without jamming. Had to wait for it to cool down.
Yes a .22 & a .223 are similar, weight of the bullet wasn't the issue, rather how many rounds one can carry. I apologize for the use of the word "clip" instead of "mag", think of it this way: if your boyfriend asked you to suck his "prick" the word "dick" would convey the same thought. And finally .30 cal pellets are just that...if you wish to pull out your micrometer & measure them, you will find that ".30 cal" is sufficent to estimate general size. I love how any one picks up an AK style variant, and just says "Oh hey I got an assault rifle" An assault rifle is a rifle that can go from single shot to full auto, if your rifle cannot do that, then congrats, you got yourself a nice semi auto rifle. Also an AR makes for a fine rifle. Good for self defense, 30 round magazines (If you live in a state that allows it) also you can hunt with it too. Nice video man.

however I grew up with an oldschool military father that put a gun in my hand at a very young age and later in life I took tactical shooting classes that atleast gave me the basic tools use my arms in the event the shtf and thats what every one needs . without the proper trining you can do more harm to urself and family than good.

I have may firearms in my collection but a 12 gauge pump shotgun with an improved cylinder choke is the one I will grab when im heading out the door. It can be used for self defense or hunting anything from quail to elk. If your cold, wet and hungry, a shotgun is your best chance to eat.
@Rifleman1964 semi auto shotgun is best. Same reliability as pump but no time wasted between rounds. Of course a break-open is the best for reliability.
@BBAHUNTER Ive hunted for years with autos, most of my shotguns are auto's and no they don't have the same reliability. Every one I have ever owned, you have to do something inside the gun to switch between high and low power loads, so you cant stack high power buck shot or slugs on top of fields loads. Autos don't like barrels shorter then 22" and tend to have feeding issues when they get dirty. I love my Beretta but I wouldn't bet my life on it.
@Rifleman1964 Just saying, I've had one Browning pump that wouldn't feed after a few shots...warped feed rails just under the slide. Played with a beretta super fast auto...freaking thing was sick, every shell boomed like it should.
BTW: M4/M16 full auto is the way to go if you are thinking shtf. That and plenty of mags.
@BBAHUNTER only one problem: a fully automatic 'assault' rifle , a la m4/m16 is about $10,000 -$15,000 and the licenses to own them are few and far between.

Lols @ "you can assault anybody, with any gun".. but I do get the point of this video... it's funny tho.. you can have an "assault stick " or "assault potato" or "assault soup can" if you know how to use it... :)... my weapon of choice... the "assault spork", a very versatile piece of equipment.. useful in almost any situation, being culinary, combat, or otherwise.

I wouldn't be using an AR for 500 yard shots in an urban environment or anywhere else. It would come down to how good a shot are you. In all honestly an assault rifle on steel sights are a 100-200 yard weapon. Their advantage is they can lay out a lot of lead, they are built to take punishment and work in all kinds of conditions and third as a psycological deterrent. Like NutnFancy said everyone knows what a Black gun is for.

Interesting, thoughtful video. One problem that a lot of preppers/survivalists ignore is that we may have law enforcement personnel confiscating guns in a SHTF scenario. It happened in New Orleans post-Katrina. How do we deal with this? If I needed a gun to defend my family against criminals, anyone attempting to take it from me would become a target. To avoid that situation, I would keep long guns inside my house and only carry a concealable weapon outside.

I would argue that need doesn't enter the equation. Simply wanting a battle rifle should drive the decision whether or not to buy one IMO. With home invasions on the rise, I not only want a battle rifle, but need one. A shot gun is effective to about 60-80 yards in an urban setting, but what happens if you're forced to migrate to a wide open area? At that point you would need a battle rifle for defense and or hunting. In a SHTF scenario conditions will change quickly so stay flexible.

I agree with you. The neighbors thing is really dependent on your relationship with your neighbors. I live in suburbia and that places me in a very different game plan. We are about defining borders and defending a specific area. There are plans in place for food, supplies, and specific duties for everyone. an AK with a few drum magazines does send a message. Also an assault rifle at close range at full muzzle velocity is very devastating. Much more than a handgun. A shot gun is nice to have as well but if I had a choice for shtf I would want an assault rifle. For home defense against 1 or 2 bad guys a shotgun fits very well. As always the first step is to at least have something. to many people are unarmed sheep. Good point about the food no need to advertise ANYTHING.

The point about a high-powered round is an incredibly valid one that I hadn't considered, though. Put on a show with a large round for the average civilian who hasn't been around gunfire and they'll probably turn tail twice as fast and reconsider ever coming back. More to the point, you don't have an assault rifle, you have a semi-auto carbine. Fairly accurate, easy to maneuver with, operate, and reload. Unless you,( and a LOT of your friends)are planning a large scale assault of something,you don't need anything more.
Ammunition consumption alone of a large assault makes them prohibitive for civilians to conduct.Not to mention all the artillery and support needed to succeed.
SHTF,most of us will be in a more defensive posture, bunkered up, and head down.

Well,the definition of an"assault rifle",is a light, short, medium caliber, selective fire rifle, that can accept large capacity magazines.They are used to assault fortified positions, and in MOUT environments.The advantage of this type of weapon, is that it is accurate enough to engage single targets,at fairly short range,and can provide suppressive fire on groups or buildings in full auto mode.
To the civilian, if it looks scary, it's an "assault rifle"..

Sending rifle rounds down range in an highly populated urban area is a dangerous thing to do and is not needed. Most threats will occur at less then 5 yards and a shotgun is king at that distance. If you really think you will need to take out someone 5 blocks away, a scoped hunting rifle would serve you better, but someone at that distance is probably not a threat to you and killing him is murder, even in SHTF or WROL. Once the shooting starts they will find an easier target.

i disagree with having a fully semi auto rifle..in my area we have 10 ak's, 3 sks' and 2 ar's 10 & 15 in my neighborhood alone..i say get the most and best because you never know what the next person has. i am currently saving up to but another ak and 2 sks myself. i plan on having enough just in case i need it.

Mr, ive wathced some of your videos and i like them, but i disagree with not needing a ar-15 in an urban enviorment; i disagree becuase if its wrol/shtf there will be groups of urban ghtetto people moving around with hostile intent, and it would be best to engage with a semi auto assult rifle. Besides that i agree with you; good ideas guy with ar-15 way better then shotgun; and remember STRGENTH IN NUMBERS and good luck....ak just as good as ar-15

@EFG44 You obviously have never fired an AR15 or anything in a similar platform. I have both an AR-15 and an AK-M, I dont clean my AR NEARLY as much as I should and it has not 'Jammed" or malfunctioned once. Also, "Overheating"?.. you cannot overheat a Semi Automatic AR15. In a scenario like this, of course you could not constantly maintain your firearm, but even still it takes alot of abuse and neglect to get to that point.

@SoccerBalbus Fired 2 20 round mags in quick concession, I could feel the heat coming off the handguard. Put another 20 round mag in and it wouldn't fire without jamming. Had to wait for it to cool down.

Yes a .22 & a .223 are similar, weight of the bullet wasn't the issue, rather how many rounds one can carry. I apologize for the use of the word "clip" instead of "mag", think of it this way: if your boyfriend asked you to suck his "prick" the word "dick" would convey the same thought. And finally .30 cal pellets are just that...if you wish to pull out your micrometer & measure them, you will find that ".30 cal" is sufficent to estimate general size. I love how any one picks up an AK style variant, and just says "Oh hey I got an assault rifle" An assault rifle is a rifle that can go from single shot to full auto, if your rifle cannot do that, then congrats, you got yourself a nice semi auto rifle. Also an AR makes for a fine rifle. Good for self defense, 30 round magazines (If you live in a state that allows it) also you can hunt with it too. Nice video man.

if i didnt have my ak and i jus had my bolt action for hunting then i would pobley b dead jus the thought that u have more gun power and ammo is enough 2 send them runnin even with out ammo if u hear that click click that a shotgun or assault rifle has it will end u running he had me out gunned if it wasnt for my shtf gun. and 11 years or not i still would have done the same.

u had me laughing man. im from florida and recently my ex and her dad committed home invasion and he threatend to kill me he had a pistol and i had an ak-47 GP WASR 10/63 they called the cops while they were committing home invasion and attempted murder and i went to jail now im looking at 11 years in prison now florida state staues says i could have killed them but even when its not shtf situation its good to have the tools u need

however I grew up with an oldschool military father that put a gun in my hand at a very young age and later in life I took tactical shooting classes that atleast gave me the basic tools use my arms in the event the shtf and thats what every one needs . without the proper trining you can do more harm to urself and family than good.

its not about the gun its all about the shooter. even if you been around guns all your life and have hunted its a whole diffrent ball game when ur using ur firearm as a defensive or offensive weapon. I have may firearms in my collection but a 12 gauge pump shotgun with an improved cylinder choke is the one I will grab when im heading out the door. It can be used for self defense or hunting anything from quail to elk. If your cold, wet and hungry, a shotgun is your best chance to eat.

@Rifleman1964 semi auto shotgun is best. Same reliability as pump but no time wasted between rounds. Of course a break-open is the best for reliability.

@BBAHUNTER Ive hunted for years with autos, most of my shotguns are auto's and no they don't have the same reliability. Every one I have ever owned, you have to do something inside the gun to switch between high and low power loads, so you cant stack high power buck shot or slugs on top of fields loads. Autos don't like barrels shorter then 22" and tend to have feeding issues when they get dirty. I love my Beretta but I wouldn't bet my life on it.

@Rifleman1964 Just saying, I've had one Browning pump that wouldn't feed after a few shots...warped feed rails just under the slide. Played with a beretta super fast auto...freaking thing was sick, every shell boomed like it should.
BTW: M4/M16 full auto is the way to go if you are thinking shtf. That and plenty of mags.

@BBAHUNTER only one problem: a fully automatic 'assault' rifle , a la m4/m16 is about $10,000 -$15,000 and the licenses to own them are few and far between.
so, get a nice trigger and pull it really fast.

Problem with your theory of running if you hear somebody shoot at you with a .22 is, you won't hear it. You'll just feel it as you fade to black.

@Sktrtrsh Doesn't matter, you will not hear the bullet that hits you...until after its done. 99.9% of all bullets are supersonic. (With the exception of some varmint ammo, like the 22 subsonic rounds or shotguns)

I say the answer is, yes. Everyone should have a so-called "assault" rifle, shotgun and handgun. If you only had a choice of one, I would say handgun. Better to have and not need, then to need and not have.

I'm gonna throw this out there, but I think you set a good example of how black people should act; civilized, well spoken, and law abiding. However, America seems so hung up on stereo type (this may sound odd) that if you do not act 'Black," if there is such a definition, that some consider you to be unacceptable. For example, I have dated women who dislike that I dont wear my jeans below my ass, or speak "hood." This is done by both white and blacks, and I wish someday that America could change

I learn this lesson on the street of Tucson AZ.People use to come up to me for a cig.and it got to the point that every dam day people would "Say hay man you got a smoke"!! finally I figured out they saw the pack of smoke in my pocket.. my point is if people see you have food they will ask. and at some point they will be dependant on you and if you cut them off they will become violent.Now for a weapon a 12g is the most verstial gun around. yoiu can take small game as well as large game.
