  • I know what eli means though, not the rest however

  • lol I love how most people actually have playlist dedicated to Her songs xD

She totally deserves it though, she's that great :D

  • I'm jewish and i have tattoos. I dont care if im burried in a jewish cemetary or not.

  • why couldn't she keep singing it over and over again? It's so good and the song's way too short. Darn! She should sing more songs like these. They're beautiful.

  • i want more!

  • my favorite singer and my favorite language!

  • So beautiful, both the singer and the language.

  • I love how I understand this..Yay to my hebrew teacher for explaining it today

  • כן כן היא קרובת פשפחה שלי והיא אפילו לא יודעת את זה חחחחחחחחחחח איז בסה לי

  • @leon241187 dude! she's your relative?!?!

  • :) My two favorite things put together

  • Regina is the most amazing person in the world.... i love her deeply

  • אני נשבעת, הלב שלי כמעט עצר.

I swear, my heart nearly stopped.

  • I have heard this song in countless school events, and... it's like it's not even the same song. Regina is otherworldly.

  • does anybody speak hebrew? i'm thinking about getting a tattoo of one of the verses (שלא יגמר לעולם), but i want to make sure that it's correct and that it would make sense (does it mean "i pray these things never end"?)

    thanks!

  • @litchick48 Yes, it means "may this never end", but if you only write שלא יגמר לעולם, it doesn't say WHAT you wish will never end. It's like saying just "it".

In the song, the things you wish will never end are the sand and the sea, the rushing of the water, the lightning from the sky (or maybe the brightness of the sky? Can be interpreted both ways), man's prayer.

    החול והים

    רשרוש של המים

    ברק השמיים

    תפילת האדם

  • @ThsBehaviorsNtUnique thank you! i'm considering getting that line as a tattoo, and since i don't speak hebrew i wanted to make sure it would be correct

  • @thsBehaviorsNtunique Are you jewish if you are it is against jewish laws in getting a tattoo. You cannot get buried in a jewish cemetry if your not jewish there is no point in getting the tattoo...

  • @towritelove12345 Are you? It is taboo, but it wouldn't keep me from being buried in a Jewish cemetery if I chose to be. Thank you for the concern though :)

  • @litchick48 Yes i am jewish... You shall not make gashes in your flesh for the dead, or incise any marks on yourselves: I am the Lord” (Leviticus 19:28) is the foundational text upon which later Rabbinic scholars developed the prohibitions against tattooing. Rabbinic law clarifies the biblical statute and states that only tattoos of a permanent nature are considered impermissible.

  • @ThsBehaviorsNtUnique thanks!!!

  • Okay, her pronunciation is not perfect, but not as bad as others. So just enjoy her voice and grasp the intended meaning. If only i could sing as beautifully for my grandson...

  • <3 This is one of my favorite ruach songs <3 I too pray that these things never end...

  • I love how she sings in Hebrew with an American accent that has its own Russian accent... :) sweet.

  • we learned this song in school. it mixs my fave things, hebrew and regina!

  • i love how softly she sings this.

  • Amen.

  • where can i get this song from

    its absolutele amazing!

  • ..be blessed Lady

    heavenly !

  • Wow... Brought tears to my eyes, seriously. I love Hebrew, want to study it, and this makes me loving and wanting it even more!

    This is so beautiful.

  • so beautiful.

  • An incredibly elegant piece. God, I love Regina's voice.

Translated to English, the lyrics read:

-My God, My God, I pray that these things never end:

    -The sand and the sea,

    -The rush of the waters,

    -Lightening of the Heavens,

    -The prayer of Man

  • Judy Garland sang "Eli, Eli"... it was in a 2001 TV movie and a young Judy (played by Tammy Blanchard) sings it. We only hear a few bars-- but it's just beautiful. Does anybody know where I could find a copy of Judy singing this song? Or if Garland ever recorded the song?

  • hahaha my name is Eli.

  • she has a grammatical mistake though...if you were going to say the prayer OF man, its tfila shel adam, not tfilaT shel adam...if it were tfilaT, it would just be tfilat adam...no shel. she makes it a smichut when it's not. not really important, i know, i just noticed it.

  • Do you think that she pronounces it that way because she thinks it is how its supposed to be pronounced? As far as I know, Regina isn't fluent in Hebrew so maybe she has heard someone say it like that and she thought it was correct? I could be very wrong but that was just my thought.

And onlysophie, it makes me want to learn Hebrew too.

I can't tell you how many times I have listened to this song. I find it beautiful and the story of Hanna Szenes sad but inspiring.

  • I know you posted this a month ago but I was wondering, does the "t" at the end of "tfilat" replace "shel"? Does it carry the same meaning?

  • Yes, essentially it does.

  • @ravengypsywings yes you're exactly right. The correct way to say it is Tefilat

ha'adam. Probably whoever gave her the lyrics was not a native Hebrew speaker.

  • yes you are right...not because i speak hebrew, but because if you look at the lyrics youll see it says T'filat ha-adam not the way she says it tfilat shel adam...

  • her Hebrew isn't perfect, you can clearly see that in the song, but still it's so clean and beautiful.. I've never even heard of here before. is she famous?

  • Yeah she is - not heaps but she's well known. You should really check out her other stuff: once you know Regina you never go back

  • @onlysophie TRUE THAT

  • She is famous, and she also happens to be very talanted! You should check out more of her songs. If you check out the comments, you'll find that her fans are nut about her. (lol, I should know.)

  • This makes me want to be able to speak Hebrew

  • @onlysophie as do I. I want to learn how to write and speak in the most beautiful language in Hebrew. May God bless and protect Israel.

  • I love her. i love this song, and she sings it so wonderfully.

  • speachless.....

  • what a gift.

  • This recording is a treasure! How did you come by it?

You know, she claims to express herself best in English, but I think being able to make a language sound so beautiful and haunting is a form of expression in itself. I know she prefers to sing original material, but I'd love to hear her interpret some traditional Hebrew or Russian songs.

  • Beautiful <3

  • amazing....im in awe by this woman <3

  • i knew she was jewish but i didn't know she spoke hebrew! she needs more songs in hebrew and russian and make the most artistic use of ALL the languages she speaks, not just english ^_^

  • Wow. This is SOOOO beautiful! I just can't find the words for it. I really really love it. <3

  • This song was actually written as a poem by Hana Szenes, who'd gone into Nazi Territories to try and help the Jewish captives. She was eventually, captured and murdered sadly. A beautiful memorial to the fact that even in the darkest of times there is still hope.

  • this absolutely one of the most amazing things my ears ever heard.

  • this song is so exquisite, and with her voice... i'm glad she's jewish, not gonna lie, and i'm glad she has made this so lovely

  • Haunting...

  • haha, my israeli friend should appreciate this, and hopefully appreciate regina like I do lol

  • woah..how wonderfully jewish

  • beautiful:)
