b) The ball shall be considered to be dead when it is clear to the bowler’s end umpire that the fielding side and both batsmen at the wicket have ceased to regard it as in play.
Technically out but correct to recall because it is clear that the fielder thought the ball had hit the boundary rope (clear from the way he threw the ball back) so led Bell to assume the same. On a separate note, I thought you could only withdraw an appeal before the batsman left the field. As an Englishman, I am ashamed of the Sidebottom incident (it is as bad as NZ running out Murali when he went to congratulate Sangakkara.
Well everyone talks about MS Dhoni's sportsmanship regarding that runout incident with Ian Bell. How can they forget Imran Khan taking back LBW appeal and giving Srikkanth another chance.
why is everyone blaming India's batting for their loss against England in England?... Its clearly not the case, India's batsmen as whole failed to score over 300 runs in the past 5 test matches,.. It is clearly batsmen led down, not bowlers.... Even the India's greatest batsman Sachin has not lived up to the expected expectation. Of course he's got all the records in the world because he's played more games than anyone else... His records don't mean anything to the team as a whole. Overrated
where was the spirit of the game when india oun izamam at peshawar and england did that in faisalabad how hypocritec is that now both teams talks abou sipirit of the game
Everybody messed up in this case from bell, pravin kumar, umpires, fielding side and the captain. Calling back Bell was the right thing.
MSD himself said, 'nobody in the dressing room felt good about what had just happened on the field. Why everybody cries over it and some fans even wrote bad language on the public bloc. Forget about it and get on with you job.
@723becks619 im english, and too true. english people always moan for spirit of any game and yet they would never offer the fucking same gestures back. for goodness sake, england fans need to learn the fucking rulesss, cos they say that bell is out. its the LAW!! bell is a lucky bitch that india let him off
india did well overturning the decision, but it was bell's fault for being so lazy and desperate to get his tea. india were just doing the right thing throughout and spirit won in the end
the thing is , ian bell was stupiddd assuming that it was time to walk off. the umpire decides when to walk off, not the players!! it was just so frigging naive, and he is supposed to obey the umpire.
Ian Bell jogged half-way, THEN shrugged & started walking-off, while Morgan was watching from his end... And Ian Bell should watch the video, Morgan DID raise his hand up! England would've NEVER done what India did, so they're being hypocritical while saying, 'spirit of the game' over & over again!
After watching the whole video and reaction of all the players on the ground, it is clear that everyone started to go towards pavilion and Dhoni should have never given the ball to Mukund to take the bails off. Arrogance brings shame and lately India’s attitude has been nothing but arrogance towards all cricket playing countries.
@syed824 all you paint is a picture of sheer ignorance. mukund and dhoni knew exactly what was happening. as soon as bell walked off they simply ran him out. if u think indians should have ignored the situation and simply gone back to the pavilion to gnaw on some cucumber sandwiches then maybe test cricket is not for you.

Law 23.1 (b) says:
b) The ball shall be considered to be dead when it is clear to the bowler’s end umpire that the fielding side and both batsmen at the wicket have ceased to regard it as in play.

After his role in the Grant Elliott run out, Bell's got a bloody nerve to complain about the fairness of a run-out.
