There must have been two slightly different takes of this sketch that made it to air; the A&E Biography special on Sesame Street showed Lefty explaining to Ernie how he had the U in his family for years, and that he was going to sell it to him, yet the clip shown on the special is slightly different from this video here.
But thanks for posting, I've been wanting to see Caroll's Lefty for quite some time... the "R/P" sketch left a bit to be desired.
Because most of Carol's characters sound like that. & I forgot to mention this but when Lefty does his "Shh...!" at 1:53, it's late & it's too soft. & when he says "Hey. Hey, bud!" at the end, too old school Oscar & when he says "Hey, Hey, look over there!"
Muppet Wiki wasn't kidding when it said Lefty spoke in a whispery voice. In the invisible ice cream sketch (my favorite, by the way), I could hardly hear him in the beginning.
I had know idea that Lefty was performed by two different people! Very interesting indeed!

There was a short clip of this sketch seen on an A&E biography focusing on the history and life of "Sesame Street" in 2001.

This sketch comes from:
"Sesame Street" episode 0126 (May 4, 1970)
"A&E Biography: Sesame Street" (2001)

Frank Oz does a much better Lefty, I agree. Still, I'm happy to discover another classic clip that I never saw as a kid. Thank you!

Well, either way, Frank's Lefty is better. I like that one better.

I know that. But that "Shh... !" at 1:55 was too soft. When it's louder, it's more telling you to shut up.

That "V" can also be an "M".

Yeah, if you count the poles on the side.

If only they would release the entire first season! SS40 is coming up soon, and that would be an awesome way to celebrate!

Why?

Honestly, I like both. One can't be shadier than the other, you know. ;-)

@ZNKChannel I have to agree.

I have to say... much as I liked Frank's Lefty, I think Carol's Lefty is mighty good. In fact, I think I like it a bit more.

Wow. Even back in the SS's first season, Frank wasn't always available.

Maybe he was, but Jim or someone decided to try Lefty out with Caroll. Either way, good comment!
