actually...Russia's ABM systems use huge radar sites to guide nuclear warheads to intercept missiles...AND they don't actually protect cities, just military bases. So maybe 50 years from now Russia will have what we have today...

Congradulations America, you have finaly developed your first ABM missile. Soviets had an active ABM since the 60s. V-1000 Bacame obsolite decades ago, was replaced by DON-1, that later was replaced by S-300 and S-400.
Maybe some 50 years from now you will what russians have today.
Obviously you have never heard of the spartan, sprint or nike missiles. America had a very advanced ABM system in 1972, which was more advanced than Russia's current system today.
Spartan and Sprint were both definitely deployed in the 1970's. The sprint missile reached IOC in 1972.
Patriot has had tactical ballistic missile defense capability for a long time. There is also the THAAD, ABL (YAL-1A), and MTHEL as well. The GBI (capable of intercepting ICBMs) has also been operationally active for a long while.
Yes, maybe in 50 years we'll have a totally corrupt government rushing backwards to totalitarianism, a ruined economy, and an outdated nuclear power plant buried under megatons of concrete yet still leaking poison.
Trust me, I'm not worried about Russia. They can barely pay their army, their economy is in shambles, they still fly aircraft with vacuum tubes in them. One good thing that Russia has is Putin, I like the man, he says what he means and I respect that. I don't necessarily agree with him, but I respect him. The other good thing that Russia has is the Russian people who, sadly, have been fucked over by their government for far too many years.
"They can barely pay their army, their economy is in shambles" - And when was the last time you've bin there? US media is lying even about situation in america, what's to say about an old arch enemy.
Vacum tube based electronics is most resistant to EMP dstruptions. Both sides keep an arsenal of weapons with those primitive system in case of nuclear showdown.
Good intel... keep it comin' ...

So compatible yet it requires a total overhaul of the launch systems.

Nice, let's see it intercept 20 of those ballistic missiles at the same time.

@vk45de A concept called mutually assured destruction would intercept that many missiles.

Go back to school, idiot.

Why wount it work?
Nike - is an anti aircraft missile, anti bommber to be exact.
Spirit and Spartan were never deployed.
You can say all you want, but Russia is the only country in the world with an ACTIVE ABM.
