So we're almost done here and so far I have to say the whole experience has been very positive. I think we really did alot to help this country out and you can see it in the recent elections that went very well. I can honeslty say that this war is almost over now. Sorry if this isn't what some of you want to hear but its the truth. I'm proud I came to Iraq to help.
NJBluEyz1 I march to the beat of my own drummer my accomplishments on behalf of the Armed Forces and bills in Congress speaks for itself. I nor the Soldiers are brainwashed, or twisted in my thinking. Dwight D. Eisenhower, General George S. Patton, Omar Nelson Bradley, Norman Schwarzkopf, Douglass MacArthur, George Washington, Sir Winston Churchill, & others were certainly not brainwashed. YET there are those who willingly are FOOLISH and act on their OWN. Weak? hardly!
My thoughs are not misguided - you seem to resent that your husband is deployed, and have taken this out on others here. The bottom line to the deployment is it is a Federal order. You cannot chop of pieces of law without consideration of the entire law.
I know of many affects of war, deployment, etc and I also know each person is an individual and their perspective, as is yours is unique.
Lorrayne, and you will take this as a compliment, I think you have the mindset of a soldier. You know the kind whose personally is broken down and they built back up to not being an individual any more and having only one mindset (ie brainwashed) They go from thinking the army is a job to, thinking they are the army. It goes from becoming not just what they to but who they are. It is their whole identity. The army prays on the week because the week are the only ones they can transform like this.
and to continue - A person is either a part of a problem or part of a solution. Choosing to serve in the Armed Forces is a CHOICE today, since after Vietnam. Problem is many look for a free ride then bail out. Those who are Active Army, Reserve, NG have chosen this profession as a "job", they did not "think" they were in the Army they KNEW they were in the Army.
Are you out of your mind. You should not comment on things you know nothing about. A soldier is born a soldier. No one prays on them. They are born brave, born different. It is who they are, what they are. Be thankful for them. I am. A soldier is not broken down or brainwashed. It is their way of life. You are a dumb ass.
Yeah and I was born a blonde...born "different" all right. And, I never said I was not thankful...but there comes a time when you should realize there is more to life, the problem is that some of you do not.
No Lorrayne I do not resent the fact my husband is deployed, it has actually grown on me, see my above thoughts, I only resent the fact that I married someone who was foolish enough to join the military at this point in time. Because it is something I would NEVER do because I do not have that mindset I was referrring to. I would not let someone spit in my face without slapping them and would not lick anyones boots because I have dignity and self respect.
And dispite my feelings I am still a rah rah GO AMERICA patriot. I Love America, I just do not like the dysfunctional, bureaucracy that is the military. Too much bureaucracy creates chaos, and thats what they do. They have it to the point where you have to file twenty reams of paper to move into the next room it is rediculous. I am surprise there are not manuals for breathing and how to cut your toe nails, that will be next. And on taxpayer dollars, thats what I really care about.
Good to know u r a patriot. The dysfunctional bureaucracy--Military? = people Failing to perform an expected function such as structure and set of regulations in place to control activity. The massive amounts of waste is due to people NOT doing their jobs effectively- the first time. How many files go missing??
No I am strong in my beliefs and no one will convince me otherwise. And, I only raise my concerns when I know I am right or an issue needs to be discussed because there is something going on that is wrong.
I only say whats on my mind and speak the truth and I do not necessarily care what anyone thinks of it or me. At the end of the day I am still happy with myself because I know by speaking up and discussing what is wrong I am doing the right thing.
the OPINIONS expressed by all are neither right or wrong they R OPINIONS. "see the truth?" what is truth: in order for truth to be defined properly, it would have to be a factually and logically correct statement. In other words, it would have to be true. We see "truth" in court rooms, yet repeated offenders keep coming back.
Personally, there r different views the bottom line no one is right or wrong - all based on perception and who we each r as individuals
The grass is green and the sky is blue are true statements, and there is a difference between right and wrong. Things do not have to be gray if you make them either black or white. If I had a child who wanted to join the military I would be 100% against it. There are better ways to serve your country than to kill people. I would rather be a doctor saving lives than murdering innocent women and children. People have problems when they come back because they realize the TRUTH of their actions
Grass is not always green, the sky not always blue- ahh that is the problem u cannot control -- at 18 you have no authority over what an adult would want to do - Not all kill - kill is in self defense - more people a yea die in auto accidents - it is not the TRUTH according to you
NJBluEyz1- U shouldn't resent that you married 1 who was already attached to the Military. Since neither you or I are in the Military we can not begin to understand the thinking of why others join--for some it is in their bloodline, others are drawn to the adventure- others out of duty - do U know that many foreigners come 2 this country for freedom- have fought in their countries army and join ours out of appreciation for freedom? Be thankful U're not in the Army you have more 2 give 2 society
Again, I must SPECIFIALLY disagree, have you read Public Law 107-243,Oct. 16,2003 which the Prez. alleges authorized him to use NJ forces in Iraq and Afganistan. Without which the use of NJNG should not be allowed, again, as I previously stated, under the circumstances the mission should not have been authorized. Also, again, your thoughts/feelings are misguided b/c you do no have to deal w/ a spouse deployed and would not know what efeects it has personally and as a part of a public forum.
NJBlueEyz1, it is ok to disagree, this is what freedom of speech is about. I believe MG R as well as the gov. selected a safe mission for the NJNG. In 2007 the deployment was officially announced, and the alert order issued. Personally, I think many of the INF Soldiers are ticked off they are doing lame work for their MOS. The majority did indeed KNOW and want to go. This is what a Soldier does - they go where told. The USAR as well as NG have deployed since OIF 1.
You think the MG R and the Gov. selected the mission? The Gov initally said they should not even go and Gen. R. well I will just leave my comments to myself, but he also already indicated that they were going to have a big problem w/ treating and educating soldiers once they return. It's not about an allegedly "safe" mission, but the purpose and effect of the mission which should be questioned. I don't think you can say that soldiers are ticked off they are doing a "lame mission." Iraq is Iraq.
Yes the selected a MP mission, again for an INF unit. This Nation has been at war since its conception. Re: treating Soldiers - PTSD and TBI are MUCH older than the American Rec. #1 cause of PTSD starts as a child being bullied - Verbal abuse is up in the top 10. TBI= high in sports and MV accidents (often misdiagnosed) the landscape of the people of Iraq vary greatly just as within the USA---
Ask a sholdier who had his legs blown off and I am sure he would have been happy to do what you call a "lame mission." Your statement that a majority wanted to go is again misguided. The National Guard is suposed to guard NJ not go to war. And again want to go, yes I am sure all of the enlisted soldiers who are getting pay cuts and whose families are finacially worse off are real happy about it. Or those with pregnant wives who will not be there for their infant children.
I didnt refer to it as a lame mission, INF soldiers did. My statement is based on facts/ Refer to 1933 .. NJ has provisional salary differential pay for the civilian work force. those in AD status are paid equally, w/exc 2 war pay - hey will make more money.
Soldiers often select an MOS that is appealing to them. INF Soldiers have a totally different mind set than an Administrator. A Logisitcs Soldier's mind set is different than a Supply SGT. ...and time and time again the best officers were and are the ones who were once grunts
I would speculate that the only ones who want to go are those who are young and essentially unattached from anything (spouse, school, etc) and those who want to go to save face b/c they do not want to be identifed as not having been in a combat zone. See Sen. Weinberg's rationale for the defederalization of the NG. The only reason there was legislation to allow them to go in the first place was b/c of WMD which is no longer a legitimate reason and the legislation should now be overturned.
Actually there were few that didnt want 2 go. The majority of people r attached family, work, activities. It wasntt JUST b/c wmd the word AND inc which is: and dismantling Saddam Hussein's regime. Did U know: Since 1933 fed law has provided persons enlisting in ST NG unit simultaneously enlist in the NG of the US-a part of the USArmy. Enlistees retain status as ST guard members unless & until ordered to active federal duty & then revert 2 state status upon being relieved from federal service.
In 1986, Congress passed and the President signed the "Montgomery Amendment," which provides that a governor cannot withhold consent with regard to active duty outside the US because of any objection to the location, purpose, type, or schedule of such duty.Under the U.S. Constitution, each state's NG unit is controlled by the gov in time of peace, but can be called up for federal duty by the President, provided that the President is acting pursuant to the Constitution & laws of the US
Again, I only rely on specific legislation I have read...However, if as you allege the language were to hold true it does not apply to this instance....For example "Active duty outside of US" does not apply to any NG soldiers. "Plain language" is always paramount to interpretaion of any contract/law.
One hundred forty thousand Guardsmen were mobilized during the Korean War and over 63,000 for Operation Desert Storm. They have also participated in U.S. peacekeeping operations in Somalia, Haiti, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bosnia, and Kosovo as well as for natural disasters, strikes, riots and security for the Olympic Games when they have been in the States.
Lorrayne, as quite often, we tend to disagree. I believe we had the freedom of speech long before this "war." And as you know, I for one tend to excercise mine quite frequently and freely to stand up for what I belive in and argue against that I do no.
I know when I rejoined in 2003 I not only planned on getting deployed I was happy when the word finally came down. The NG is a great idea if you want to serve your country at home and overseas but maybe don't want to make a lifetime career out of it. It's not somthing you sign up for without considerable thought.
We're leaving for Iraq soon now and the mood is very good with my platoon. I guess I don't understand why someone would sign up for the guard if they didn't want to go to this war. Its been going on for like 5 years now and the guard, in almost every war, has deployed with the Army since it is part of the Army's reserve force. If you didn't want to deploy to a war zone but wanted to serve you can always join the PeaceCorp which is also an honorable way to serve in a non military capacity.
Actually you are neglecting to recongnize the fact that a lot of pepole joined the guard BEFORE 9/11 and therefore you statement would not apply to them.
Actually you can only sign up for 3 years or 6 years so even if your husband signed up for a 6 year contract on 9/11 (or before) than in order to be on this deployment he had to have signed up again for another contract after the war started in 2007 (or earlier). So it looks like you guys want the benefits of being in the military without having the wartime mission associated with it. Thats just tough luck I guess.
Actually, If one were to graduate college in Dec of '03 whcih was paid for by the military and did ROTC upon completion they would owe five years and that would bring them to at least the end of '08(There are four years of college if you didn't know so that would have begun at least in '99. Thank you.
Are you on crack? He was in rotc in 2003. That is 2 years after 911. So like I said he stayed took the militarys college benefits but doesn't want to serve in the military. If he didn't want to go to war he should have quit ROTC back in 2001 right after 911 and found another way to pay for it. You can't get something for free in this country you have to work for it. You are just a miserable woman. I'm here in Iraq and learning so much more than you can watching the news and its not all bad
I'm not on crack and I'm not a miserable woman. You on the other hand should be the miserable one, because while I am here living my normal day to day life and furthering my career you are stuck in the middle of nowhere and getting nowhere. So if anyone should be miserable its you. By the way I work VERY HARD
Why don't you just drop it and give up already The only reason I keep posting back is because other people keep posting rediculous comments.I can just imagine how much you are learning by doing the same boring thing day in and day out. Yes I must be so jealous that you probably learned how to say hello and thank you in arabic. By the way I don't watch the news about what you are doing because it is a joke and a waste of taxpayer money You say its not all bad but that is just a coping mechanism
I guess I'm not miserable though even so I "should be". I'm enjoying the work I do here. Its too bad you can't at least learn from other comments.I try to keep an open mind.I don't just assume I'm right on every topic and it allows me to grow as a person. You on the other hand only allow your opinions to count and your just one person with limited experiences so thats not really that credible to me. I've learned alot from those I disagree with here but I could learn more from a doorknob than u
hboisch - sounds like it to me too. My son did not go to college on a ROTC scholarship -most of the ROTC contracts were Pulled in 2001. What is interesting to NOTE is even after the Officers contract expires they are still able to b called back IE: Vietnam war: called back officers from the Korean war !! they were long retired
Well hboisch "All of us are looking forward to deployment" certainly IS an inaccurate overstatement. My husband, like yourself, got a free ride to Rutgers via the National Guard and he is certainly NOT looking forward to going. I myself paid to go to Rutgers and lawschool and am certainly happy to be almost 100K in debt than going to Iraq. In terms of you being so assured there is sufficient NG resources left behind in case of emergency I certainly hope so since as I said I live in a flood zone
NJBluEyz1 Wow I think it is sad that you assume that people that don't agree with you are automatically "brainwashed". It almost seems like you are. You don't even know my reasons or what I'm leaving behind. We're not all mindless soldiers. I have a bachelors degree from Rutgers in both Economics and German as well as a full time job as an analyst at one of the top 5 investment banks in NYC. I can thank the army for a full ride and didn't have the same benefits of a free education that some do
hboisch has been brainwashed by the military into a mindless and nonindependent individual. "all of us are looking forward to deployment" is a huge overstatement and inaccurate. He must not have a new infant or a house in a flood zone and found out he was being deployed to Iraq on 2 mos notice. Act like an intelligent individual rather than a mindless robot who does whatever your told. When you just follow the pack and don't stand up for what is right or wrong nothing good becomes of it
I am in the NJ guard and deploying in June and I can tell you that all of us are looking forward to deploying. There will still be another 3,000 army national guardsmen in NJ to cover all the fires that the pinelands can offer.
There is a movement to keep the NJ National Guard at home, which began when the mother of a Marine currently in Iraq asked Gov. Corzine if he would oppose redeployment of our Nat'l Guard in June. He said no, so we have NJ legislators ready to introduce a bill to defederalize the Guard. Sign the petition: njpetition dot org. Learn more: peaceandjusticecoalition dotorg. Call Gov. Corzine. If he really opposes the war, he needs to oppose this deployment. We need our National Guard here at home!
and no one is really questioning it,speak up jersey, the active army is really hurting,so they dig into the national guard, half the troops of jersey.people really dont want to here about this war anymore, tired of the the in between lies to this war..but i will do my job and hope to god that can come home in one peace.5 years and counting
So we're almost done here and so far I have to say the whole experience has been very positive. I think we really did alot to help this country out and you can see it in the recent elections that went very well. I can honeslty say that this war is almost over now.

Keep on having a good time, best of luck with your educational doorknob.

hboisch - sounds like it to me too.
