I became friends with Alex when he climbed the Trango Towers with Jared Ogden in 1999. There was this web site set up where you could send emails back and forth with the climbers when they were at rest. There were only a few of us doing it. We all sort of became united in cheering them on and giving them encouragement. It was something I'll never forget. Then just a couple of months later, I think it was, he died. Rest in peace. Your spirit lives on in many of us.
