You can find some very good books on doping especially in cycling, but don't think that other pro sports are cleaner.Lance has lied so many times giving us unscientific explanations like using an altitude tent to increase his hct from 51 to 50%, his loss of weight,... that is so comical for people with a bit of physiology knowledge.
At the end of the day lance has motivated and inspired a handful of close friends to not sit back and let cancer ruin or worse, end, their lives. He's the catalyst that saved their lives and for that myself and the people I love have the utmost respect for the man. Lance IS a legend. Fact.

My suggestion to Lance's critics is to read "Lance Armstrong's War." It is a good book about cycling, the players, the drug tests, etc. Lance is not perfect, but having spent night after night in the oncology ward battling non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, I'm thankful for what he has done. That 600M means a lot, he put a face on cancer, woke up the world to the horrors of it. If you haven't had it, you don't know what it's like, nor can you imagine it. Cancer killed both my parents, almost me.

@u368 It's more than you and I combined can give. Survive cancer, then you have a right to criticize. I go to three or four medical schools a year due to the uniqueness of my cancer and give about 10K--I make a decent salary as a patent lawyer. That said; what is my 10K? Not even a monthly salary of a researcher. No one or nothing is perfect. I wish LAF would join up with the ACS, all be on the same team. But at least he is doing something for the cause.

My cancer was unique because it ended at my last rib but did not spread to my lungs. Jon Huntsman Sr. (the father of the presidential candidate) has probably given more than any other person to the cause. I know a lot of oncologists and researchers. When Lance was accused of dopind on the 1999 TDF by American journalist, no one was referring to lose of weight. That explanation came much later to justify his transformation from a one day rider to a GT rider.
BTW if you had checked Lance's weight along years you would know that Lance didn't lose weight, he even stated it during an interview to the testicular cancer ressources center, that interview is on their website!

@Bobby5917 Before TDF all riders were submitted to a medical inspection. During that inspection they were weighted, and Lance was a bit heavier during his 1999-2005 TDF than for his 1993-1996 TDF!

I think that people with medical conditions are, according to the rules of cycling, allowed to take standard medication required to treat those conditions. As far as I am aware it is normal medical treatment for those who have "juan pelota" to take testosterone supplements. This would not be not doping but I would imagine that it woudl be helpful to be able to medicate oneself in that way. There is no secret and no doping, but medical supplements may be useful when facing Mt. Ventoux every year.

Few people are ever completely cured of metastatic cancer. Testicular cancer is easy, but a brain tumor and lung cancer (simultaneously)? My mom's an oncologist and she and I know that the chances of surviving (without recurrence) is small.

You can find some very good books on doping especially in cycling, but don't think that other pro sports are cleaner.Lance has lied so many times giving us unscientific explanations like using an altitude tent to increase his hct from 51 to 50%, his loss of weight,... that is so comical for people with a bit of physiology knowledge.

Armstrong's example inspires millions of sedentary people to go ride a bike or run a marathon, etc; you can minimize all you want, but you don't substantiate any of what you say. As far as contributions go, what's your source on cancer contributions? The mere fact that it does contribute (and there must be hundreds of charity organizations that support cancer patients) is a positive effect on humanity. My suggestion to Lance's critics is to read "Lance Armstrong's War." It is a good book about cycling, the players, the drug tests, etc. Lance is not perfect, but having spent night after night in the oncology ward battling non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, I'm thankful for what he has done. That 600M means a lot, he put a face on cancer, woke up the world to the horrors of it. If you haven't had it, you don't know what it's like, nor can you imagine it. Cancer killed both my parents, almost me.

I go to three or four medical schools a year due to the uniqueness of my cancer and give about 10K--I make a decent salary as a patent lawyer. That said; what is my 10K? Not even a monthly salary of a researcher. No one or nothing is perfect. I wish LAF would join up with the ACS, all be on the same team. But at least he is doing something for the cause.

My cancer was unique because it ended at my last rib but did not spread to my lungs. Jon Huntsman Sr. (the father of the presidential candidate) has probably given more than any other person to the cause. I know a lot of oncologists and researchers. Everyone should be on the same team, and I disagree that Lance actually distracts from cancer research.

When Lance was accused of dopind on the 1999 TDF by American journalist, no one was referring to lose of weight. That explanation came much later to justify his transformation from a one day rider to a GT rider.
BTW if you had checked Lance's weight along years you would know that Lance didn't lose weight, he even stated it during an interview to the testicular cancer ressources center, that interview is on their website!

You can look too about the famous fake study of Dr. Coyle, we can hope that he didn't faked the weight of Lance too.

I think that people with medical conditions are, according to the rules of cycling, allowed to take standard medication required to treat those conditions. As far as I am aware it is normal medical treatment for those who have "juan pelota" to take testosterone supplements. This would not be not doping but I would imagine that it woudl be helpful to be able to medicate oneself in that way. There is no secret and no doping, but medical supplements may be useful when facing Mt. Ventoux every year.

instead of pressing 'p' on my ipod I accidentally pressed the 'enter button thats why it says 'now what peo' lol. what I was going to say is; now what people like yourself will say is that in the early 2000's samples were found in lance's blood but he paid them off and they covered it up...Im sorry but if you believe that you really need to seek help. The idea of an independent drug testing company such as WADA doing such a thing is simply preposterous. Nothings ever been found. Deal with it.

EPO was found in Lance's 1999 urines, those findings are coherent with Lance in relation with Ferrari who said that EPO was no more dangerous than orange juice, coherent with Lance's hematocrit level (48-49%) : impossible values for a 3rd week of TDF, coherent with testimonies,...You are the one still pretending that Earth is flat or our world is born like it's written in bible.

@u368 mate, Im an atheist, a Darwinian and a geographer, your comments about my position on the matter are as ridiculous as those made about armstrong. picking sceptics accusations straight of the web and copying them on here in no way forms the basis of a strong argument. it doesnt matter if they found 10 grams or 0.5 pico-grams, the independent doping agencies would have informed the UCI of it. Your objections are laughable, nothings been found, until something is I'm all Lance.

@KeenCyclistBracey WADA has informed UCI of the findings of EPO, but UCI didn't prosecute the case.
Maybe you are a darwinian but you should look for clues and evidence on WADA website. Do you know how to search informations on internet? Apparently you failed.
From BBC : World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) chief Dick Pound has rejected the independent investigation which cleared Lance Armstrong of doping allegations. WADA rated it of farcical !
You still refuse to see that Earth is round!

BTW Armstrong is under 2 different federal investigations , for drug trafficking, money laundering,... and now for witness tampering or intimidation. Why do you believe Lance's BS and dismiss the confession of ex-dopers? That makes no sense, but that is the usual business with people in profound denial mode.

Lance was part of the US junior team, several of those riders developped illness, so Strock sued Carmichael for injection of PED.... Lance later got cancer, maybe the result of Carmichael's injection?
Cured Lance decided to continue doping by using EPO and blood transfusion with the help of Dr. Ferrari Michele, a renowned blood doping doctor.

@Sick3ninVend3tta There is already proofs of Lance doping like the 6 EPO samples, his hematocrit level of the 1999-2005 period that would be seen as doping with the current biological passport, the corticoïd 1999 positive test, ...
How could Lance explain Landis, Andreu, Svart, Anderson, O'Reilly, Prentice, ... testimonies?
So proofs are there, the only point is are the facts too old to be sanctionned?

@u368 Fuck you just straight up fuck off Lance was always the best. He competed in professional triathlons as a 15 yr old and hung with the best. Then he survived cancer and became one of the greatest cyclists ever.

His cancer is probably the result of PEDs use at the beginning of his career.
And he was cured of cancer by doctors and medicine like half of the people who were in the same state.
Despite his doping, he smeared people pointing his obvious cheating, he threatened Simeoni, Bassons, Lemond, Andreu ... and now he does the same with Landis or Kimmage.
Great achievement of a jerk.

1. There is no known cause for cancer- that you can claim that you knew the cause for Lance's cancer only shows that you're speculating- ever wonder why you have no credibility? 2. Wrong. Few people are ever completely cured of metastatic cancer. Testicular cancer is easy, but a brain tumor and lung cancer (simultaneously)? My mom's an oncologist and she and I know that the chances of surviving (without recurrence) is small.

@u368 Ah, more ignorance. There is a good reason that cancer is the second highest cause of death in the United States. Mere doctors and medicine is unable to cure hundreds of thousands of people every year who die of the disease. Maybe some day Lance will accept the God that he has abandoned, the God that rose him from his darkest days in the hospital to the heights of a great champion.

All cancer is, is dirty germs thats got into your body. EExcercise can cure it. Docters dont tell people though because they only beleive in medicine and all that crap.

@u368 dude if he did it why has he never been caught. Why in hundreds of drug tests has he never failed a single one? Why have hundreds of other cyclists failed tests and lance hasnt. Did he have some super special drug 10 yrs before drugs that were already being caught getting used? The answer is no, he never doped and all the prissy teammates of his just want attention so they say he did.
