very nice !!! what kind of drum is that ? can u telle me the misures please? and what kind of camcorder have you used to shot this video? thanks really nice work !!
@cuerdasoxidas nothing too complex. 2 mics into a mixer. that's all. one behringer condenser over head and one schure kick mic. from the mixer i recorded into the line input of a zoom H2.
I'm jealous how smooth and consistent your playing is. I'm looking for new ways to practice to hopefully make more progress, do you play with a metronome often? I hardly ever do.
@PChuckTaylor i don't do anywhere near as much metronome practice as i should. playing along to your favourite recordings can help timing too, so long as the recordings are in time :)
i've seen this video maybe 100000 times johhny lol and every time i see i wanna comment something new. Only you can make a kit that small sound fuckin badass. your talent amazes me every time man.
I love watchin This Video every time just like wanna walk in to a music store sit down and just do what he does best....got to love the beginning Tooo!
this is amazing to me i really like it when i drummer shows his true skills how u took a 2 piece kit with a couple of cymbals and made it sound so complete it what makes a drummer a awesome drummer great job i hope i can be a good as u some day and i am subscribing
i agree. you dont need 10,000 drums in a kit. its fun to play around with diff combinations but you shud, if youre a capable drummer, make a chair and book top sound good by playin it. this guys very talented and fun to watch.i prefer this style of playing to most guys on youtube goin on n on in a long drum solo. be concise , have some good ideas , and move on. but thats just my opinion.
@tanazoglu: it's a track called Tired of Fighting by the Menahan Street Band. You can find it on the album 'Make the Road by Walking' It's fantastic music.
So glad to see you back doing more drum videos! Man, you got groove running through your veins... Inspiring. Wanna move to Seattle and teach me to be you?
Absolutely amazing! I am so happy to see that you are back! I just returned myself, and am finding that more and more people are making their way back to YouTube...its like Youtube 2.0...
i needed the break. it had turned into a job, or at least if felt that way. but now i'm keen to make a go of it again. i just wanna make music and share it out there.
whoops.. sorry dude, i clicked 'remove' instead of 'reply'. they should put those buttons farther apart.
i had my camera attached to a tripod which was tucked under my arms. i saw someone make a REALLY complicated rig to achieve the same effect.. i like my ghetto solution better.
Thanks.. i recorded the bass line later, from the comfort of my couch. Not sure if you understand camera jargon but it's is a Canon EOS 500D with a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 lens.
Which black panther is that? And more importantly, can you recommend me any books/instructional tools to get my snare chops up to your standard? I love you snare work.
it's a 13x6 maple snare and as for improving your chops? practice. that's all. in 1999/2000 i almost didn't touch my kit at all. i had a big drumline gig (sydney olympics) and i spent the entire time on a practice pad learning how to play a double-stroke roll properly. no magic, just hours of focus every day.
haha i saw this kit being built in another video on youtube with pearl converter lol

@GunMetalSparkle not actually a 'ride' as such. it's an 18" boshporus byzance crash.
johnnyonline 1 year ago
@johnnyonline it actually looks like a Meinl Byzance
atroye 1 year ago
@atroye whoops... that's what i meant. no such thing as a bosphorus byzance.

nebulae87 2 years ago
a Canon 500D or a T1i if you're from north america. I'm about to upgrade to a 550D (T2i) in the next month or so hopefully.

16" floor tom/bass drum conversion + 13" snare + 18" crash + 10" splash. sounded big enough to me.
johnnyonline 2 years ago
At first I was wondering where that bass line was appearing from... but then I remembered the whole 'movie magic' thing.
This was really cool. ^^
And damn, I can't get over how nice of a camera you have...

Does a video of that high quality take a ridiculously long time to upload, though?
unscrewedhorses 2 years ago
@unscrewedhorses : not too long really. the whole clip was under 200Mb, so only about 30 minutes to upload over my ADSL2 line.
