  • There are 4 people who only know how to play skank blast beats.... Eyuk!

  • very nice !!! what kind of drum is that ? can u telle me the misures please? and what kind of camcorder have you used to shot this video? thanks really nice work !!

  • the gear is awesome, but mostly because it's Johnny that's playing them!

  • the ride cymbal sounded so awesome....what kind was it? the wway it crashed just sooo awesoomee soundingg!

  • Hi Johnny!

Could you please tell me how did u record the audio? Audio interface, mic and Daw please! I really enjoyed!

  • @cuerdasoxidas nothing too complex. 2 mics into a mixer. that's all. one behringer condenser over head and one schure kick mic. from the mixer i recorded into the line input of a zoom H2.

  • Thanks mate! sometimes simplicity = brilliant

Well done! and thanks ! you should record more drum videos cause your playing is awesome!

  • @johnnyonline Could you please let me know what type of mic and mixer? I'm looking for new gear. Thanks!

  • I'm jealous how smooth and consistent your playing is. I'm looking for new ways to practice to hopefully make more progress, do you play with a metronome often? I hardly ever do.

    Btw, fav'd and sub'd.

  • @PChuckTaylor i don't do anywhere near as much metronome practice as i should. playing along to your favourite recordings can help timing too, so long as the recordings are in time :)

  • @johnnyonline Thanks for replying and the suggestion!

  • i've seen this video maybe 100000 times johhny lol and every time i see i wanna comment something new. Only you can make a kit that small sound fuckin badass. your talent amazes me every time man.

  • ahhh

    love it so much

    musical idol, straight up.

  • what ride cymbal is that?

  • @GunMetalSparkle not actually a 'ride' as such. it's an 18" boshporus byzance crash.

  • @johnnyonline it actually looks like a Meinl Byzance

  • @atroye whoops... that's what i meant. no such thing as a bosphorus byzance.

  • @johnnyonline either way man...you sound killer on it!

  • @johnnyonline i meant meinl not bosphorus.

  • i love how youre all like "oh, I just happened to walk into a music shop, rock peoples' socks off, and then went on with my day, no biggie."

  • I love watchin This Video every time just like wanna walk in to a music store sit down and just do what he does best....got to love the beginning Tooo!

  • this is amazing to me i really like it when i drummer shows his true skills how u took a 2 piece kit with a couple of cymbals and made it sound so complete it what makes a drummer a awesome drummer great job i hope i can be a good as u some day and i am subscribing

  • i agree. you dont need 10,000 drums in a kit. its fun to play around with diff combinations but you shud, if youre a capable drummer, make a chair and book top sound good by playin it. this guys very talented and fun to watch.i prefer this style of playing to most guys on youtube goin on n on in a long drum solo. be concise , have some good ideas , and move on. but thats just my opinion.

  • @azdug thanks man. i thought it would be funny to walk into this huge room of drums and sit down at the smallest kit possible :)

  • @johnnyonline no prob, love ur vids, n yeah its pretty funny.i actually wudlike to get alil kit just for theease of mobility. keep on man.

  • Great video,

Does anybody know what the intro/outro song is? Great song..

  • @tanazoglu: it's a track called Tired of Fighting by the Menahan Street Band. You can find it on the album 'Make the Road by Walking' It's fantastic music.

  • So glad to see you back doing more drum videos! Man, you got groove running through your veins... Inspiring. Wanna move to Seattle and teach me to be you?

  • SO glad to have a new vid!!

    <33333333

  • That splash was nice. I like.

  • Wow its been ages since I've seen a video that's left me feeling so inspired

    awesome

    x

  • JOHNNYYYYYY you're back man....geez its been forever. This video is awesome....and quite..short story like. What kind of camera did you use for this?

  • a Canon 500D or a T1i if you're from north america. I'm about to upgrade to a 550D (T2i) in the next month or so hopefully.

  • Absolutely amazing! I am so happy to see that you are back! I just returned myself, and am finding that more and more people are making their way back to YouTube...its like Youtube 2.0...

  • cheers.

i needed the break. it had turned into a job, or at least if felt that way. but now i'm keen to make a go of it again. i just wanna make music and share it out there.

  • Damn... you deserve more views, bro.

  • smooooooooooooth as all hell.......keep'em coming!

  • great work man =] good to see such groovy stuff on a little setup like that. LOVE the sound of this snare! do you know a rough RRP on it here in aus?

  • hmm.. it's not too pricey. $300-400ish.. i think.

  • Nice, good to have you back.

How did you do the steady camera thing when walking btw?

  • no magic, just a tripod.

  • awesome!

that looks like a pretty awesome shop.. where abouts is it?? :)

  • the intro and outro was 'The Menahan Street Band' with 'Tired of Fighting'.

but everything else was me :) and by everything i mean drums, bass and the camera.

  • two drum videos within a week? what did we do to deserve this?!

  • i've spent a year on my photography... now i'm coming back to music. hello!

  • btw that was me below (bigfatnoises)... I was just logged into my other YT account haha.

    Great video!

  • whoops.. sorry dude, i clicked 'remove' instead of 'reply'. they should put those buttons farther apart.

i had my camera attached to a tripod which was tucked under my arms. i saw someone make a REALLY complicated rig to achieve the same effect.. i like my ghetto solution better.

  • @johnnyonline lol yeah I really thought that it was something more complicated. But I guess that's a pretty smart solution haha.

  • so glad your making videos again

  • size doesn't matter ;)

  • 16" floor tom/bass drum conversion + 13" snare + 18" crash + 10" splash. sounded big enough to me.

  • At first I was wondering where that bass line was appearing from... but then I remembered the whole 'movie magic' thing.

    This was really cool. ^^

And damn, I can't get over how nice of a camera you have...

  • Thanks.. i recorded the bass line later, from the comfort of my couch. Not sure if you understand camera jargon but it's is a Canon EOS 500D with a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 lens.

  • Does a video of that high quality take a ridiculously long time to upload, though?

  • @unscrewedhorses : not too long really. the whole clip was under 200Mb, so only about 30 minutes to upload over my ADSL2 line.

  • I totally thought you were gonna do some split screen drumming with those other two drum kits, but this was also good :)

Maybe and idea for next time :D

  • Is Johnny comin back? NOICE

  • Ahh you have got some fantastic chops on those snare rolls. That little kit sounded fantastic.

  • what a big fucking musicstore! :O ive never seen so many instruments in one place before :|

  • your talent never ceases to amaze me.

    love the shirt, btw. <3

  • thanks alex, i dressed myself that day :)

  • Righteous piece! Niel Peart meets Mr. Bean...BwhaHaHaa. Very TIGHT Jam2

  • Which black panther is that? And more importantly, can you recommend me any books/instructional tools to get my snare chops up to your standard? I love you snare work.

  • it's a 13x6 maple snare and as for improving your chops? practice. that's all. in 1999/2000 i almost didn't touch my kit at all. i had a big drumline gig (sydney olympics) and i spent the entire time on a practice pad learning how to play a double-stroke roll properly. no magic, just hours of focus every day.

  • YAY :)

  • BADASS

  • Awsome video man

  • Amazing as always, johnny. I really wish my drummer was as good as you are :)

  • nice! as always :)

  • i was hoping you would play more sets...

    still awesome though :)

  • Fucking ace, man!

  • That was some bad-ass drumming as usual

  • All any of us drummers need is a bass guitar to groove with, and we're set. Loved it man!

  • thanks :)

now that i've finnaly set up my bass properly i can hopefully do more of this stuff.

  • yay!

    more stuff! more stuff!

  • Nice Grooves man ^^

  • first comment bitches and nice man
