I think it's neat when people model existing designs, but the real beauty is when people strike out and make their own creations. Love the engine clusters and front-end detailing.
Have you ever thought about contacting the Lego Group with your creations? I'm sure they'd take you on as a designer with just one look at your youtube channel.
@BluesMan109 Holy crap, that's ridiculous. I have quite a large collection of bits and bobs, but unfortunately they're not particularly colour-coordinated; it makes large-scale models like this a bit hard to do. Nice work though! When's the next instalment?
@Sulacu That, and maybe a bit of the Venator Star Destroyer from Star Wars, the engines and the depression in the sides of the hull remind me of that ship class.
This is an extraordinary piece of work Blake! I am currently writing a book called "legend of the Halbaerd" which is a sci fi story of an adolescent called Alex who is assigned aboard the IF48-9903-Halbaerd starship and I was wondering whether you could build a lego rendition of the Halbaerd. it looks vaguely similar to paladin, except the engines are smaller, it has a yellow orb in the bow, and fabric solar "wings". I will not mind if cannot build it, but I would greatly appreciate it.
@pzagv There are no specially designed Legos in this ship, nor are there any cut/glued/modified parts. If you look at the high resolution photos (the link is in the video description), you'll see that it's all normal bricks.
@pzagv I like to call it: "Breaking the system". It's just taking a whole different approach to how you put the parts together. The possibilities with Lego are endless! If you know the right building techniques and have a vast amount of Legos...
@Killershrimpvds Thanks! Use whatever pics you want, I don't mind at all. There are higher resolution photos on my website (the link is in the video description).
@ExEPIDEMIC Thanks! There are no hangers. It's minifig scale, and not quite large enough.
I'm working on a new SHIP that has two fighter bays. It will be considerably larger. Here's a picture of what I've done so far: flickr [dot] com/photos/blake-foster/4735129291/
@Queerdragon11 I started with a sketch, although I deviated from it considerably. When I'm unsure where to go next, I'll build the basic shapes in low detail. When I'm happy with the overall design, I rebuild it more carefully.
@TheBradbury5 This is minifig scale, so if this (and a Venator) were real, the Venator would be quite a bit larger. This ship is quite a bit larger than the 8039 Venator set, though. It's almost exactly four feet long, which makes it more than twice the length of the set.
@bbng365 I started off with a fairly large childhood Lego collection, although I didn't have a lot of gray. I bought many large boxes of Legos on ebay, including several boxes of only gray. Ebay is a good way to stock up on parts when you're not looking for anything specific (it's a lot cheaper than buying Legos new). Bricklink is another great resource, if you're looking for a specific part. You can buy pretty much any part that has ever been made without purchasing an entire set.
@Blockhead0110 Thanks! A Paladin was a knight from Charlemagne's court. It seemed like an appropriate name, since the ship vaguely resembles a sword (if you see it from overhead).
@Danny77uk Thanks! I made a few sketches before I started building, but I didn't follow them very closely. For my newest SHIP (still a work in progress), I scanned one of my sketches, blew it up, and printed it on to 10 pages. The new SHIP is going to be so large that it would be difficult to get the scale of the various components right without a 1:1 reference.
@66yahoo6 The sides of the engines are built with 1 x 4 hinge plates. I used 3 x 2 slope bricks on the top and bottom. I can send you some higher resolution pictures of the engines if you want.
Thanks for entering my contest. This isn't quite origonal, cos you see alot of lego spaceships around but, oh, look at it, it's awesome! Looks strong too. This is a great model. 10/10
