  • The reason modern blues sucks....just like most modern genres do. Is because of one thing....OVER PRODUCTION. And the funny thing is....it's even there in live music. Music has become too polished....too polite. Too "perfect"....the changes are boring and the licks are the same as the next guy (even great players). This is where the internet and access to so much music has hurt us. Everyone copies the same handful of guys. And people play what they "think" someone will call blues.

  • @WarBeer it's like how genre labels are derived. Back in the mid 1600's they didn't walk around saying. "I write...CLASSICAL" music. No, it was just music and modern. It wasn't until we analyzed things YEARS later did we group, file and label. Well, that what most musicians do. We here these "modern" guys and a song or two from some old cats and we think "this is how you play blues"....so, it has become a predictable machine. Which really is the opposite of it's origin and meaning.

  • @WarBeer I've heard punk bands play music that I thought had more of an honest blues element than most of what I hear called blues today. Today's blues is "elevator blues"....for guys in Hawaiian shirts that drive a BMW. I also think that most modern player play WAY too many notes. The solo's have become WAY to long and pointless. The more notes/faster you play, the more you repeat yourself. I hope we get past this dark time and I hope young people can lose the labels, the "process" and dig.

  • @WarBeer yup you know muddy always said he wasnt impressed with guitar shredders and the snap rhythm is much important

  • cream crossroads is crap.......not in a racist way but c'mon its shit

  • God bless Martin Scorsese for making this and the "Lightning in a Bottle" concert & DVD. Such efforts are a real boost to the Blues and all of us who play them owe him a debt of gratitude.

  • How blessed are you to be able to count Freddy King, Muddy Watters, Howlin Wolf, and Buddy Guy among your friends.......NOw THAT is cool........

  • quit being a bunch of fucking faggots and arguing on youtube

  • @DvinkleVittleSchtar yeah total 12 year old approach to an issue. seriously, blues is not black music, but blacks played if first. do you get the distinction? probably not.

  • @sinprelic it is black music, they have the depth very few whites can play the blues without the rock influence, there is very few whites pulled of the blues full stop. its the same with regge

  • @annabatarowicz do you think a black man with the identical environment as a white man has a better capability of learning and playing the blues? please. you are making me cry with your suggestion that blues is a genetic predisposition.

  • @sinprelic yeah (what are you going to acuse me of being racist) black people give it authinticity & depth. go listen to robert johnsons hellhounds on my trail or hendrixs red house live at randels festival of the voodoo child compilation. it has more depth...(i know mate it took me a long time to accept). even hendrix was the same age as clapton & lived in the north away from the delta. he still had more depth & (a takin it back sorta vibe) when he came to england, clapton would agree. id bet

  • @annabatarowicz you are just talking about people. you do know that in america, there were white bluesmen too, expanding blues just as much as the black performers did? you want names? you sound like me in my early teens, when i insisted blacks were the uberrace for music. do you also think blacks can dance better? do you also think blacks can rap better than whites? what about crime? do you think blacks are better at that too? howlin wolf say that the blues are when you are feeling evil.

  • @sinprelic i must admit i aint herd many old white blues men. & no i certainly dont think black people are better criminals going by the look of the prison system. & rap music i only listened to immortal technique & public enemy & yes they are black . emminem was funny years ago on the old dope not now he has depression (what a surprise). so you must think its a coincedence eric clapton hires a whole black choir to sing holy mother. nothing to do with tone & feel just pure coincedence (yeah)?

  • @annabatarowicz your gross division between the races not only sickens me but sickens the 21st century world. what, did they not teach you in poland to not discriminate? sure there is a history of blues, but you have really not heard of any white bluesmen? duh you havent if you are this bigoted! time to listen to the entire range of bluesmen, not only the late 50s checker records lineup. thanks. also, please dont reply, you've no idea how many avid racists keep messaging me every day.

  • @sinprelic what the fuk are on about i aint polish i am from lonson. all of my neghbours are black guys & i get on with all oo them, all my heros are black guys, and sadley there is a race divide but thats more of a cultural thing than race. iv had other race girlfriends. your the onr with the race problems mate

  • @annabatarowicz and yet you say such bigoted things and you are impulsively irritated at being called polish with the most polish of names. sigh

  • @sinprelic LOL i have a polish girlfriend i go to poland ones a year ...you,,,,fuckin...idiot

  • @sinprelic your one of these people that thinks a les paul is the same as a strat yeah, and there is no diffrence between a bridge pick up and a neck pick up, well there is massie diffrence the neck pick up is warmer, this is how i feel about black peoples voice in music i think there is more depth, and (man) if im being racist im being racist to white people cause you could look at it that im making them out to be musicaly inferior, which of course im not but some cunt like you wont see that

  • @annabatarowicz oh you are just talking about the probability of a dfferent vocal tone.. sure, their skin is also less reflective. doesn't change the ability to play and especially to feel the blues. howlin' wolf would strongly disagree with you about the statement that blacks do blues better. ps. that's a lot of waffle in your previous response. damn!

  • @sinprelic im sorry man if i sound racist maybe i aint thought it through,... the thing is when i picked up geetar i got into an argument my sister & her boyfriend who was a professional bass player & we were watching s,r,v live at the el mocambo. & my sister and her boyfriend were the ones who first said this to me and i like you disagreed big time. & it caused an argunent and over the years ive just acquiescenced to that view. maybe black people make it more culturely more authentic

  • @annabatarowicz i dont think it is exactly possible to have the delta blues feel when you grow up anywhere other than the delta. white people never came out with music from there, but do you honestly think that, in reverse, a black man could never compose any classical music? or that a white man in captivity and sorrow who only smoked and drank could not sing the blues? you know, the bluesmen all had a growl in their voice because of the smoke and booze. it was a sad time with inspiring music.

  • @sinprelic i understand what your saying .you can take a baby from a tribe in the amazon bring him up with middle class people & he could be a concert pianist.yeah so the race thing is a bullshit idea . but i am talking about country blues & that was to my knowledge a black mans culture that cam about from makin up chants in the cotten fields. & the melodys memorised from church song. i also believe you need to have of sufferd to play blues good clapton went & sufferd deliberatly for this reason

  • @DvinkleVittleSchtar my ass! thats like saying why do all these black guys want to be president when white guys have been doing it for years... Obamas a tool.. Pretty much the same thing you said you little bitch. ill beat the shit out of you. go do what clapton did then insult yourself

  • because they like it and they can, if a black man wanted to play metal does that make him a tool because its mostly white guys that play it?

  • @goodride2004 Yes, it would.

  • I get really pissed when people dis the Blues, it really bothers Me, especially when they don,t know shit about what they are saying

  • all great muscians...none of these people would have been heard ,without elvis.elvis brought the black muscians/singers into the mainstream..simple fact...i respect all kinds of music

  • @elvisuk umm actually the blue in fluenced america so much at one point stars became to rise out of which of them was elvi so what i mean is

slaves - blues - elvis -all forms of music - modern day pop crap

  • is this out on dvd or anything like that because this is truly amazing, thank you for post this by the way

  • cadillac records was done cheap have the shit was bs sad

  • these old guys could do more with some rusty strings and a plank of wood than todays kids with all the gear their mommys and daddys can buy them. u can't turn a knob for heart and soul.

  • @me86680 it would be pretty cool if there was though.

  • @Lizzardpeople Endless loop of scale playing? I seriously doubdt it.

  • che musicisti!!!!

  • In my oppinion, Clapton's style of playing is just way too polished and pretty to be nearly as attractive to my personal taste, as the sound of Robert Johnson is. Great musician, sure, but he's an apprentice to the greats of blues music.

  • @Dakotaen you must know that johnson.s recordings are pretty older so you get the feeling that its dirtier than in fact was. plus clapton is specialized on electric guitar as johnson was on acoustic one..theres no way you can compare these two greatest on their tool

  • Blues is the roots all other music is the fruit. Whether its Charley Patton or Robert Johnson or Son House its simply good music

  • why do so many think Clapton has no right to play blues ?

  • coz the mans a racest

  • Just when I thought:''Oh,my blues playing is quite well'',and then I hear Clapton, and go ''Shiiit, back to basics again...''.

  • great vid but i can do without claptons commentary

  • I would love to know where the first part right at the beginning comes from

  • Three guitarists to replicate Robert Johnson's sound :-) and one of them (Clapton) is a master. I think it is easy for us today to give accolades to guitarists for solos or certain riffs - Johnson was in a different league completely. So far above everyone else. Keith Richards once asked 'who is that playing with him? not realizing it was Johnson playing on one guitar. "I was hearing two guitars, and it took a long time to actually realise he was doing it all by himself," said Richards Amazing.

  • Clapton's cookin here! Those riffs are out of this world.

  • Too cool! Bukka White and Howlin' Wolf together!

  • Eric Clapton=Pale imitation!

  • wish a kin play the blues lol

  • The Blues....

  • Robert Johnson would've been so proud if he saw what Eric Clapton has done with his music.

  • 日本人も聴いています。好きな人は、たくさんいます。

  • I'll be eternally grateful to whoever knows where I can find the b/w video of Lowell Fulsom singing "Be on your merry way"

  • Took 3 guys to replicate Robert Johnson, lol

  • I'll always credit the fans more than the artists of the 1960-1970's. They made all these white guys legends. They're good players, but so what, so is your unknown neighbor! Right place, right time.

Makes me wanna puke every time I hear them bleed on about themselves and play stupid lengthy guitar solos!

    Gimme a break.

  • @sickboytodd Poor little baby. Hope you feel better. Puking is no fun.

  • nice turtle-neck slowhand

  • who want eric clapton when you've got robert johnson

  • i just dont believe clapton, never have.. he;s good, but i dont believe his soul like those other guys

  • Please can someone tell me or link me a video to that jam right at the beginning

    thanks

  • Anyone know what song Lowell Fulson is playing at 7:16? I've heard five seconds of it and I already love it.

  • @aaronfoster624

  • 4:33 ... on the celly.....

  • Good old Derek classic racist twat

  • Who wants clapton when you could have Mcdowell? Or Bukka or muddy or RJ or Skip or the first king Patton? Come On folks Skip the milktoast, jump right on in! Triple The Feelin!

  • have you seen , it's written bee bee king ? What for ? was it it's first artist name?

  • Where is this version of T Bone Walker's "She's My Old Used T Be" from? It's awesome just from the two seconds they show you here.

  • Diggin on T-Bone Walker's evil grin around 7:00, along with the wicked licks he's laying down....

  • Lighten up dude. It's a joke. A play on words. Maybe if you were literate you might get the humor.

  • Or his johnson depending on how you look at it.

  • Richard is Robert Johnson's dick.

  • why is youtube so full of aholes like you and others on this page? I really wonder if we shouldnt shut it down...

  • Richard Johnson...hahahahahahahahahahahahhahaahha...what a nerd...why is he posting comments about blues??lol..richard..its like Muddy "Walters"..:-D

  • Let's not diss Richard Johnson... his brother may have sold his soul to the devil at the crossroads .. Richard wore down his soles crossing the road like a devil

  • clapton is good, but he aint no rj thats for damn sure.....

  • No one is,it was as if he was two people at once.A mind blowing guitarist with a haunting voice.

  • you forgot to take an "o" off

  • Clapton's style comes from Richard Johnson. Bet you have no idea who he is??????????????????

  • You mean, Robert Johnson?

  • richard johnson?don't you mean robert johnson?if your going to be a know it all jackass,at least get your facts right because your the one who ends up looking like he knows fuck all about music.

  • somebody please tell me that saon skip play round 4:30ish!!!?????

  • As near as I can tell its "I'm So Glad"

  • Its surely "I´m so glad". He plays at the same place Bukka White plays his Old Lady Blues. Funny though... Did the all came together there?

  • Massive talent.

  • The Best

  • I saw cadillac records wasnt to impressed but it made me want to look up the real people. My mother loves this stuff and i apreciate it

  • @Laneamua I agree. Adrian Brody ruins movies. He did the same thing to King Kong. Blues guitarist are the best hands down. Rock n Roll guitarists don't come close. They steal all their stuff from the blues, but still can't touch em. That's why Hendrix was so special. His blues was so advanced he fooled every one into loving the blues and they didn't even know it.

  • TO FUCKING COOL

  • SOOOOOOOOO AWESOME.

  • I'm gagging for part 3
