I had the same problem few times be4 , and it had to do some thing with my windows vista , it happened every time after my laptop screen goes off after the screen saver and such or when I close the lid after that I formated my windows and used xp instead .... it works way better this way.

I have seen the same problem on a number of laptops.

Make sure that correct video-drivers are inslalled.

Try connect external screen. If problem still accures, probably the videocard is broken.

If not, then check flex-cable from motherboard to internal screen.

It may be a problem with the program tu download music called ARes. If you have this program opened more of 1 hour, you'll have this problem in your screen

It looks like an OS problem, try reinstalling, then if it happens again call dell and they will fix it. I Myself have had a 6400 for a year or so now and not had any screen problems.

I had the same problem with my Dell laptop, too. Looks like Dell laptops just have a really crappy design when it comes to the display. What happened is that the ribbon cable that connects the motherboard to the actual LCD was either ripped or came unplugged from the monitor. Since replacing the motherboard seems to fixed it, it looks like your ribbon cable just came lose on the motherboard's end.

I don't think so. I had an old laptop that did exactly the same thing. When it did happen, I just opened and closed the screen until it works again. You probably have faulty wires. (I have plugged an external monitor to check if it was a motherboard problem. It was working like a charm with it.)

that is nothing to do with ur laptop its a virus that only effects ur laptop at certain times if u do a virus run it should get rid of it

I've had the same trouble with mine. Also got the screen replaced but it didn't fix it. Escalated the call to Dell and they sent a techo around to replace the MoBo. Hope that will fix it.
