Clearly the original reason for having a young attractive female assistant was to provide viewers with a bit of eye candy and a character to relate to, as well as reinforcing the wise, slightly paternal character of the Doctor. The kissing felt like a bit of a sell out.

I hear the same actress who played Madame de Pompadour is returning as the new companion in series 7. Rumor has it she won't be playing the same role though. Who knows.

His fellow classmates at the Academy like The Master, The Rani, Drax, Runcible. I think it's the use of Two Steps from Hell's "Tristan" that still gives me chills whenever I either hear the song or see this trailer. Such a well-crafted trailer that still impresses even after the season has ended.
I think I overrated the quality of the recent episodes. Matt Smith is far better than David Tennant could ever hope to be, of course, but not one of the best. The episodes haven't exactly improved that much and none of the new series ones have even reached the high standards set at the end of the Classic series with Ghost Light, The Curse of Fenric and Survival.

My whole family was so excited at the beginning of series five we were all "No way! A kid companion!" We still love Amy and Rorry of course, but I really wish they could have a kid as a companion for longer then one episode.
I loved series six. The acting and storytelling was brilliant, but the special was very disappointing. The Doctor acted like a child all the way through it; I know the Doctor is supposed to sometimes, but without any seriousness at all, it becomes uninteresting and boring to watch. I love Moffat's writing, but the special seemed like it was made simply to please younger viewers. I know his sons have a large infulence on his episodes, but he often seems to forget that older people watch this too.
This series was absolutely diabolical (imo), I loved it under RTD as I always knew I was guaranteed a good episode and Moffat's first series was quality as well, but this one I thought was poor - as was the christmas special.
@jonyhamastix this season already finished it started in april this year before a brake in the summer it returnd for the rest of its episode near the end of august and the season finished on the 1st of octoboer
JNT may have had some shitty ideas, but removing the sonic screwdriver was brilliant. It makes wrriters actually have to think about how the Doctor can get out of a situation, rather than just shipping out his magic wand and pointing it at whatever is bothering him. It's ridiculous that even before it was removed, the sonic screwdriver was never used anything close to the extent that it is now.
Too much kissing the Doctor and companions dying and being saved over and over and plot holes conveniently solved by the buzz of a sonic screwdriver. How about some imagination writers? How about some good old fashioned pub fare science fiction?
just from watching back when and the impossible astronut for the first time hears what i thought how the series was going go rory was the astronut. amy was going to River off the rooftop the doctor was going to have amy hunted down then in AGMGTW i thought amy was going die and rory was going to be hurt that he would have to be put into the astronut suit but Rory was angry at the doctor because amy was dead the started running until he decided to stop let Rory have his way It made sence REPLY
Far too much emphasis on horror themes - and why Americanize a British program? The writers couldn't help using 'Ground Zero'. WHY!!??? What has happened to this show? I no longer enjoy the adventures of the Doctor because the producers have no original ideas regarding science fiction - too many unbelievable plot twists that do not make sense. Just venting my frustration.

I found the last two seasons difficult to watch for the over complex story line, the lack of original locations i.e. the U.S.A - YAWN - and now we have to know the Doctors name? What?

the Dr moniker in 'The Armageddon Factor' when he insists that Drax stop calling him by his school nickname and simply call him The Doctor. And lets not forget the Abbott (Planet of Spiders and State of Decay) who was the Dr's old guru on Gallifrey. And Azmael the Dr's old time lord friend. So there are at least hundreds of Time Lords who knew the Dr's real name. IN fact I am willing to go out on a limb and suggest that other time lords have had the same name. No proof, just common sense....

everyone the Doctor interacted with BEFORE he left would have known his "real name". Everyone like Borusa, the Dr's teacher from the Academy. His fellow classmates at the Academy like The Master, The Rani, Drax, Runcible. Coordinator Engin looked up the Dr's history and remarked that the Dr was from one of the oldest and most noble blood lines on Gallifrey. Romana looked up the Dr's school records so she could have easily seen his real name then. And yes, it is intimated that he didn't use..

I think I overrated the quality of the recent episodes. Matt Smith is far better than David Tennant could ever hope to be, of course, but not one of the best. The episodes haven't exactly improved that much and none of the new series ones have even reached the high standards set at the end of the Classic series with Ghost Light, The Curse of Fenric and Survival.

My whole family was so excited at the beginning of series five we were all "No way! A kid companion!" We still love Amy and Rorry of course, but I really wish they could have a kid as a companion for longer then one episode.

I loved series six. The acting and storytelling was brilliant, but the special was very disappointing. The Doctor acted like a child all the way through it; I know the Doctor is supposed to sometimes, but without any seriousness at all, it becomes uninteresting and boring to watch. I love Moffat's writing, but the special seemed like it was made simply to please younger viewers. I know his sons have a large infulence on his episodes, but he often seems to forget that older people watch this too.

JNT may have had some shitty ideas, but removing the sonic screwdriver was brilliant. It makes wrriters actually have to think about how the Doctor can get out of a situation, rather than just shipping out his magic wand and pointing it at whatever is bothering him. It's ridiculous that even before it was removed, the sonic screwdriver was never used anything close to the extent that it is now.

just from watching back when and the impossible astronut for the first time hears what i thought how the series was going go rory was the astronut. amy was going to River off the rooftop the doctor was going to have amy hunted down then in AGMGTW i thought amy was going die and rory was going to be hurt that he would have to be put into the astronut suit but Rory was angry at the doctor because amy was dead the started running until he decided to stop let Rory have his way It made sence REPLY

Far too much emphasis on horror themes - and why Americanize a British program? The writers couldn't help using 'Ground Zero'. WHY!!??? What has happened to this show? I no longer enjoy the adventures of the Doctor because the producers have no original ideas regarding science fiction - too many unbelievable plot twists that do not make sense. Just venting my frustration.

However, I was just thinking how every other TV show gets an U.S. makeover for a wider audience and the big bucks are there (or a 15trillion dollar debt) and the result is less than ordinary. I found the last two seasons difficult to watch for the over complex story line, the lack of original locations i.e. the U.S.A - YAWN - and now we have to know the Doctors name? What?
