Although lots of people still have to use their cars to get to their workplaces, it is far from how it is in the US as you can manage without a car (at least in Stockholm and other cities). And yeah, it makes sense that some things are more expensive in Hawaii, but Sweden isn't really that cheap when it comes to other things either (compared to most of the US), but that's much cause of high taxes.
