  • Not everyone likes him,but he drives some folks WILD

  • Isn't this riff the one used for Black Books?

  • @yashicat5 Black Books ripped it off a bit... They sound really similar, but not the same.

  • its no coincidence that tom waits on youtube is only available in the lowest of qualities. The way he meant it to be.

  • Tom Waits is so boring, unoriginal and unmelodious! ! I don't understand why people listen to him.

ok so now that I have your wide eyed, fully enraged attention: Waits is the best thing that ever happened to the world!

  • @usamalali hehehe you were this |-| close to having a baseball bat lobotomy!

  • @jimaldo64 Hehee :P

  • How come whenever Im trying to find the comment that everyone is hating on I can find it? HELP! D:

  • @Zerophoenix1 Ctrl+F "CarlSagan0101" you'll find it there

  • Awesome song. My favorite "creepy" Tom Waits tune.

  • @MrHarbl mine is on the album 'Mule variations' What's he building...

  • @MrHarbl "yesterday is here"

  • what guitar was used on this?

  • @streetspiritben I think its a telecaster

  • @streetspiritben he probably made it himself, he makes a lot of his own instruments

  • che figo spaziale

  • @crakula

Is all you do get pwnt over the internet?

  • @crakula If you are going to try to make fun of someone, make sure to check your own shitty comment. Spelling a simple word like 'career' wrong, just makes you sound dumb and uneducated.

  • @crakula

    Nope. Try again.

  • @crakula

Seeing as everyone can hear it except you, might wanna reconsider that statement.

  • @crakula

So? Doesn't make them sound any less similar.

  • any one heard jon bonamassa's version? its quite nice too!

  • @gimmi1

Joe Bonamassa is boring pop blues.

  • @CarlSagan0101 at least he made this boring song interesting

  • @gimmi1

    Tom Waits... is... boring?

    O___O

  • @CarlSagan010 you don't deserve to use the name Carl Sagan.......shame on you!!!!

  • @jimaldo64

Why not? Joe Bonomassa isn't interesting at all. He's typical pop blues just like John Mayer, a lot of Clapton's post-Cream stuff, and a lot of BB Kings work too.

  • probably my favorite by him, next to chocolate jesus and heart attack and vine

  • this song always reminds me of andy garcia in things to do in denver when your dead!!!......love that film!........its such a rough song love it!!!!!

  • Fucking masterpiece.

  • thumbs up if tom waits=fuck yeah

  • how did this get 10 dislikes

  • things to do in denver when you're dead :D

  • Nine people are severly brain damaged.

  • Heard from a friend of mine that he played a show with Primus, and the fucks in the audience booed him off stage. I like Primus and all, but what a bunch of dumb fucks with no real musical taste. I would had to have held back a punch in the face if i saw someone booing within arm reach.

  • one of my favs!if you like tom check my channel too! cheerz from greece

  • love to hear this when im drunk

    :P

  • @edwardgonzalez87

    lol i feel you

  • 8 people have a jockey full of horse manure. How could you not like this song?

  • Joe Bonamassa's version is way better then this !!!

Joe Bonamassa is the BEST !! :D

  • @bluesmaster94 No way!!! Tom rules!!!!!

  • The man is an amazing song writer. He can do little wrong...

  • I believe I've over drank my bourbon and I think I'm having trouble standing.

  • 2 dollar pistol......full of boubon...classic

  • Thumbs up if you were brought here by Moxy Früvous!

  • Only fault of this song: Too short!!

  • OMG this song has been stuck in my head forever! And I love it!

  • Tom waits is a boss

  • just look at that face. thats a legend if i ever saw one

  • Jockey Full Of Bourbon - Waits, Tom [Pomona, California] - 1985 - "AMG Pick. From the beginning of his career, Tom Waits had always explored a variety of musical influences from folk to blues and jazz. He opened himself up to a wider array of musical sources (including Latin, Eastern European, and avant-garde art rock)" - Greatest Hits [Import Russia] (ANTI-Records) [Disc 1]-2008.

  • Sleaziest opening riff ever.

  • @Misishaxi what do you mean by that?

  • @WKaliberr He probably means that the opening riff is the sleaziest one ever

  • I'm full of bourbon, I can't stand up

  • Such a relaxing tune. I love it.

  • Tom you're my North Star when I'm lost and feeling blue.

  • is it me or this sounds like "She Bangs" of Ricky Martin? No offense, Ricky could have stolen this

  • Meravigliosa....tra le mie preferite di Tom Waits

  • Joe Bonamassa brought me here

  • @JWBails Joes version is, in my opinion, waaayyy better, but I can appreciate why some people would like the original version. I had never heard this song before I heard Joes cover on The Ballad of John Henry album.

  • His voice was so much better when he was younger. It makes me a little sad to hear him now, but I'm glad that he is still doing what he loves.

  • @ipodchicken

You gotta be joking. What he does with his voice he does on purpose. Besides, this recording is about 25 years old, so...what are you talking about?

  • "I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!!!"

  • @ohyewithlittlefaith alright mate, calm down i was just pointing out they sounded similar. Just thought it was interesting...just means maybe Dylan Moran likes Tom Waits thats all. geez.

  • down by law is amazing!! WAITS & JARMUSCH RULES!!!

  • I love this song, it's awesome the images you can get just by listening the lyrics!

  • Das Leben nach dem Tod in Denver!!! geiler film :)

  • First heard this song when I saw "Things to do in Denver when you're dead." Loved it since. If you like good music that doenst get played on the radio, check out it's soundtrack sometime

  • killer

  • Man oh man how i love this song!!! One of the all time greatest!

  • Such a classy song. I wish that more people could appreciate his style - unfortunately for many it's just an acquired taste...

I got onto Waits after listening to all of Zappa/Beefheart/Man Man and his style is even unique compared to these - he reminds me of a character out of some dark dark movie with his gruff voice.

  • @OxyMiracle I agree! But that whiskey voice is amazing to me. And how it changes over the years makes it even better.

Ive listened to man man for a good while now and am glad my friend linked me to tom, he really is amazing and gives me so much inspiration for my art.

  • incredible

  • The only word I can think of is fucking magnificent.

    Oops I guess that's two words......fuck it!

  • awesome!

  • Tom and Mickey Rourke would be excellent companions for a coffee and a cigarette or two.

  • masterpiece!

  • I have no idea what Waits is singing about (some study of the lyrics should fix that), but goddamn this is catchy!

  • @SanGuevara he sings about being drunk, doing dumb things and forgetting afterwards :)

  • I take my hat off to Mr. Waits.

A film Waits´s lovers should check out :)

  • Great song. I hear some Screaming Jay Hawkins influence in here.

  • Love this!

  • oh and i forgot to add - anyone else notice how strangely similar this is to the theme tune of that comedy programme with Dylan Moran and Bill Bailey called 'Black Books'?

  • I love that program! And you're right there actualy mate, never noticed that! Fair play!

  • how right you are. Never noticed it before now.

  • @coffee2024 It's been pointed out a lot. Very reminiscent of Ribot's stuff.

  • @coffee2024 Miljoonasade - Rokkibändi wounded knee, Also another cover/copy/strangely samely sounding song in finnish :)

  • i think that ,

perhaps , the theme tune is similar to this .

  • Yeah! It sounds nearly identical!

  • It similar, but not strangely. They're both to do with drunkards, see.

  • @MrsHowl, three thumbs up for your remark, if I only had the extra thumb.

  • @MrsHowl

There have to be some serious copywrite issues there

  • @MrsHowl Piss off no its not! I can understand why you think that but there is no connection.

  • @MrsHowl

I thought I was the only one who noticed that! It's the guitar that does is for me.

  • @MrsHowl omg it could very almost be the same damn thing :O maybe it is, i love black books hehe

  • @MrsHowl Good shout. Considering Bernard's general behaviour, I would suggest that this is intentional.

  • this song i my ipod on a rainy morning.. still dark and late for work. happy in a suicidial way

  • @MrsHowl

    Well spotted MrsHowl :)

  • @MrsHowl Wow yes! Thank you. But it's probably the same music. If it is - Black books is now two times as awesome

  • @MrsHow I always said that!

  • @MrsHowl My first thought when I saw that show for the first time was "This song sounds like Tom Waits".

  • @MrsHowl And also "The Sopranos" theme.

  • @MrsHowl And to 'The Sopranos' theme.

  • @MrsHowl - YESS!!! I JUST started watching that show and it immediately reminded me of this song. I would bet anything that the theme is modeled on this song to some degree.

  • @MrsHowl first thing i thought when i heard it

  • @MrsHowl defo... have always thought that!!! nice to hear i'm not the only one!!!!

  • @MrsHowl I've always thought that! Glad to know I'm not alone/insane.

  • @MrsHowl It is indeed the music intro music to Black Books... maybe re-recorded for legal purposes. Mr Waits is very particular about these things. Tho... if he'd seen black books he'd SURELY have approved. Coincidently... Dylan Moran once sat with myself and a friend at a pub table for a few hrs. Although it never came up... I'd bet a large bet he is a Waits fan.

  • @noremotevideos1 *music - typo... darn this YT system and its non-allowance of re-editing!!!

  • @MrsHowl Me and my friend were convinced it was Tom Waits for a while...I looked it up, and I feel like I remember a different name attributed to it. Don't quote me.

  • @MrsHowl I THOUGHT it somehow sounded familiar. Thanks for this.

  • Note that Ribot quotes "On Green Dolphin St." at 2:08

  • Dude. that's deep.

  • @envika, oh wow, you're right! thanks for pointing that out. good catch! (can't understand why someone gave you the thumbs down)

  • The Finnish cover of this song is kind of hilarious. stupid. important. and then again hilarious. then it's not hilarious. but still, it is.

  • Smooth stuff, very dark atmosphere to it. Great song.

  • such a dark riff. such an amazing unique songwriter. i love this song. im full of bourbon i can't stand up.

lol his the genres on myspace are listed as experimental/experimental/experimental

  • Very odd movie and a very odd song.... in a very possitive way <3

  • i'm so happy. Marc Ribot is a legend. ahhhh. a bit drunk here... do you have the civil war story lead in to train song off of big time posted? am i getting greedy?

  • I have that song but I haven't posted it on Youtube. Once I get internet back on at home I'll put it up.

  • @johnvndonut dear god i'm drunk too and I'd love to find this song right now Ribot is a genius

  • @johnvndonut re:>ahhhh. a bit drunk here...

Hard not to be when listening to Tom Waits. Look up the word "drunk (adjective)" in the dictionary, and there's his picture. Maybe I shouldn't be listening to it when I'm at work...

  • this is such a great song, Tom Waits rules

  • this is magic... amazing tune, amazing album

Tom Waits is GOD (in case of musicians... I guess I'm a polytheist ^^)

  • Hey i love this song, would u know wat type of music this is? if so please answer as soon as possible XD please, thnx for uploading!

  • "With this trademark growl; his incorporation of pre-rock styles such as blues, jazz, and Vaudeville; and experimental tendencies verging on industrial music,[2] Waits has built up a distinctive musical persona."

    Quoted from Wikipedia.

  • Tom Waits is unclassifiable. He is his own genre.

  • "Waits has built up a distinctive musical persona"

Yes I agree, it is covered in that quote.

  • .... I've always loved this song!... thanks for the originally recorded version!...
