    im trin to make it go from therd person to first person view wene u walk into a sertin aira and switch back after leaving that aira.

    I can make the cfg file but I dont know how to trigger it with a sdk trigger function.

  • Hint: Make the Door properties so that the door opens more fast, make a speed like "200"

  • After doing the alien tut I discovered my door can be walked through even when welded shut and aliens simpily stop next to it insted of attack it.

  • @newe6000 you need to set up an ai navigation for your map by putting some info_nodes so that those aliens can bash the door when you are in a room with a door or something like that. hope that help :)

  • Lol the trigger and all that stuff are a lot more complicated in the other Source SDK

  • @Ghostreconunit666 set up a prop_dynamic and name it and put a trigger_panel_hack_area and set the panel prop name to your panel's name and that it. for the output set it to (onbuttonhackcompleted,then trigger the panel skin from red to green by selecting skin and override parameters type 1, and then link it to your door by setting the output to onbuttonhackcompleted,set it to auto open or close.) some words that i provide might be type wrongly and hope it help :)

  • Um, I have made the two side blocks and the trigger and the door but it doesnt let me resize the walls and or door and stretch them to the right position. I always have the problem of big walls and small door. Help please :)

  • I have a quick question for you: I want to make a door using a vehicle as world model instead of the door model which is unbashable and unweldable, but which has to be hacked.

  • I'd like to use both the left and right door for a double door effect, I can't seem to tie them both to the same trigger, must I use a trigger for each door?

  • @Sirfracis the buttons are right under the word edit in the top tool bar it has a + button and a - button

  • Thank you for all your help, but I do have a slight problem. I've been following the tutorial and the basic one before but now it seems whenever I load up the door version of the simple map the lights do not work, however they are exactly the same as the ones in the last map. Please respond, great tutorials :)

    But the map runs also, but since it's pitch black I have no idea if the entities work, though they most likely do.

  • @flf4sgam3r you big cube isn't correct. Try deleting it, then make a big cube (with toolsnolight texture). Then hollow it out, and make it a func_brush with the name: structure_seal

  • my doors wont open or close... i cant weld them... i can just shoot them... how can i solve that?

  • @Hellb0y187 well you probably did something wrong.. i can't say what because i dont know what you did, so watch the tutorial again, and make sure you do all the things i do.

  • Great tuts Maxovitsj, you've made it possible for me to get into the SDK that came with Alien Swarm, and I'm loving it! I have a question though: I tried making a trigger that would turn on some lights but I cant figure out how to do it. Can you tell me that, perhaps in a future video or just here?

    yea the light isn't that hard, make the light entity and go to flags, tick the initially dark box and then make a trigger that sets the light to TurnOn. Hope you understand it, if not, ill make a tut.

    im working on the elevator tut atm, it will be released today (25-7) but i had some setbacks.

  • @maxovitsj Thanks for your reply but I'm afraid I cant get it to work. I have created a light_spot entity (should it be dynamic?) set to initially dark in flags. Then a trigger_once area, just like the one in your spawn tut. I'm pretty sure my trigger area is okay, but I dont know if I should make some other type of light? Thanks for the help, I'm looking forward to the elevator tut! :)

  • @StenzFlaens just use: light (not _spot, _dynamic, _env or anything else...)

  • @maxovitsj Alot of this mapping is similar to Counter strike source mapping, which I have about 3 years experiance with. We should work on a campaign together ;) I'm sure we could provide a pretty decent campaign.

  • @candle010 it leaked somewhere, make sure you have the big cube and did everything correctly. Hollow it out THEN make it func_brush etc

  • I love your tutorials, but i have one question. When i try to place items (guns flamrs etc) i try to place them next to eachother but the grid separates them. Is there anyway to make the grid smaller. so i can place more freely? I would really appreciate if you could reply. Thank you.

  • @Fruteiable use the square bracket tools: [ and ] to make the snapping grid larger or smaller

  • @Shanesan lol i figured out my problem, when i created the entity for the door i figured a doorway would go well with it, so i made another asw_door and chose the doorway model, figuring it would function as a doorway.... it jams the door inside.

    so to sum it all up, making asw_door and choosing the doorway model will NOT make it a doorway, it will in fact, still be a door... and jam the door inside it.

    hope that helped your problem, coz it sure solved mine....

  • Excuse me, Maxovitsj, but sometimes when I move with the mouse, it won't do whatever I'm trying to do. All it does is move the screen around and not make blocks or select things. Could you help me?

  • @smeagol1414 Yeah, I already did that and forgot to delete my comment, but ty. When you press on "run map", you have to make a tick into the "Wait for keypress when done compiling".

  • What exactly do you mean "if mapped properly, aliens will bash it in"? Since Aliens aint smashing mines in! tho it does everything else like welding etc. Help would be appreciated :)

  • @clowking He means that if you close all other ways AROUND the doors

    the aliens will automatically smash the doors quick summary:

    have no other way through the door except the door itself

  • Hey maxo, weet jij iets over Remote Turrets (die je mbv een control panel kan besturen)? Ik heb geprobeerd de trigger Output aan de Turret te linken, maar dan stond bij de "Via this input" niets bij wat leek op besturen. De betreffende turret heet "asw_remote_turret". De gebruikte panel heet "prop_dynamic" met dan de skin van een Panel. Goede videos trouwens, keep up the good work.

  • Used this tutorial for my map :P i've now gone overboard making a central chamber where aliens (using your alien tutorial ;) ) ram into the doors and you have to defend yourself with welding and... well, guns :D

  • How do you make a door that is allready sealed? So you have to unseal it to get through?

  • @WoWsMostwanted Alright you have to set the CurrentSeal property to the MaximumSeal, so lets say your max is 10 sec, set the Currentseal to 10, and you have to unweld 10 seconds :D
