Saw him perform this live in Austin, and it was stunning. I'd never heard the original, but it stole the show for me, even though he played some of my all-time favorites.
Beautiful song. I don't like the version on "Dark was the Night" quite as much as the live versions
i loved andrew bird ever since squirrel nut zuippers and i love solo stuff even more but...i dont know about this one. the thing that makes this song so great is that glorious barritone voice of brets in the handsome family.glad andrew is a fan though.
Glorious. This song is on the new "Dark Was The Night" Red Hot Compilation. If you haven't picked it up, it's a great 2 CD collection for a bargain price, supporting AIDS research. There's a slew of top indie artists included.
He played this yesterday in Amsterdam, after telling he can't hear or play this song without feeling emotional about it. I think everybody in the room shared his feelings. The song was one of the highlights of a perfect show.
O sweet Jesus

My favorite Handsome Family song. I've seen Bird play a dozen times and he never did that one. I been cheated!
