Its still photography, i guess I'm a purist in ever sense of the word, but i can see the attraction, and i was more drawing light to the point that many people view his work because of the message each piece conveys.
I really dislike his style, i think it should not be considered photography at all, as photography is as much about capturing the moment as it as about perfecting the pictures composition, his staged shoots are more like film stills..just as his style represents.
Look back at the journalistic photography of the 30's and later to see better images with stronger messages.
it is not journalism you pin head! you dont like the style but what about the content? he is working from a cinematic tableau! I dont like dogs because they are not foxes or wolves? that is your argument.
Photography is about your own style, its fine art. If crewdson still used the style of the 1930's he would be where he is, he'd be one of the photographers who never made it cos he hasn't got his own style
All of this purist photography crap is a bunch of hack bravado.
His approach is a constructed one and you prefer straight photography. So what. One is not better than the other.
That talk might work amongst weekend camera club photographers who wear vests but it is just nonsense in the real Art world. Crewdson is an artist not a documentary photographer.
FANTASTIC. Crewdson's photos are a uniquely stylized look at the beautiful and awful functional desolation of that region, and your video shows his inspiration in the raw.
Great video, love his work. I'm going to his exhibition in london on wednesday. I'm also doing my dissertation on his work, i dont suppose you have a picture of Crewdson as I can only find images of his work.
@oliveoshea Photoshop? Oh, I guess he would scan the colour negatives into his computer.

Your idea of Photography is much too narrow.
Why would it not be considered photography?
What is it? Interpretive dance?

bugs bunny i think holds the championship title of interpretive dances.

Crewdson's work is about fantasy, not reality.
It's about creating a moment, not just happening to capture a moment.
