  • what a copy cat! Back onto the video from Janes AQddiction, I mean Porno for Pyros...where the lil guy walks around a laundry mat. Thats it...I love this song, but its not any better than STP.

  • ever since I watched this movie the first time I have wanted his shirt

  • I got ham but I'm not a hamster

  • wat

  • Anyone who thinks this movie is deep is just... simple. Like the same people who thought Inception was a thinking man's film. No. I like Southland Tales, but it's really fucking silly and melodramatic.

  • @joshuawmeyers I agree, even the director what's his face Donnie Darko guy said in the special features he was making a bizzare comedy. It's why I enjoy watching it. It's so... hypnotically weird.

  • its a great film .

  • good underatted movie, one of the best scenes, timberlake can act very well

  • have you not learned anything from rap videos? the alcohol goes on the bitches... smh

  • The movie make no sense at all without the prequel graphic novels.

This movie is 20 years ahead of its time.

  • @MagronesBR Because you've totally been in the future and you know for a fact that this is the way they will make movies then.

(Just kidding, I love both the movie and the comic books, I just think your comment sounds weird).

  • this movie doesnt make any sense but it's cool i know there's something like a meaning behing everything happening maybe i need to look deeper anyway i only watched cz justin timberlake was in it he's fuckin cool

  • this film will suit in a Art Gallery cos it doesnt make sense as fuck

  • This is not a movie you can watch once and understand.

I've seen it 10 times, I figure, and there's still new things I catch onto whenever I watch it again. A fantastic, terribly misunderstood film.

  • very confunsing and dense but great film. and this is the best scene of it.

  • STRANGE MOVIE!

  • Such a good fucking movie, and by reading the graphic novels, its is perfection.

  • This scene is probably one of the most important in the whole film. Most people don't even realise it. In case you didn't know , during an operation in the war Pilot Aberline was scared so Taverner gave him his MP3 player to calm him down. This song is what he was listening to when the friendly fire incident occurred leading to his facial injuries.

  • You know what I read all the reviews of this movie bashing this movie and then I read everyone talking about how good it is. My conclusion is this is SHIT!

There is only so much shit I can take before I get pissed and I got a face full of it. I loved Donnie Darko, so don't go spouting off to me about themes. The one theme running through this movie was God and Devil. It was just a stupid movie that wasn't well made at all. This was the only good scene in the movie.

  • This part definetly added to the weirdness of this AWESOME movie! If you understand this music video, then you SHOULD be able to understand the theme of the movie. Anyone who thinks this movie is CRAP needs to open their mind to things other than " reality Tv" or " American Idol" which is the TRUE crap thats killing our once great country little by little!

  • Best part of this whole stupid movie!

  • Don't let this scene fool you into thinking that the movie is good. Or watchable at all.

  • This is the best part of the movie.

It may be a little early to tell, but Timberlake is totaly the Frank Sinatra of the 21st century (in the sense that he is a good singer who also is a pretty good actor)

  • I can't quite decide if this is the worst or best movie I've ever seen.

  • @Otana Totally agree. Never had this feeling before : at the end of the movie you're just... Something else. Entirely.

  • @Phaetonmagic After repeat viewings and reading the comics, I've decided I love it. You've just got to get past that disjointed storytelling because what's underneath is just magical.

  • @Otana Some scenes are so... powerful ! This one in particular, but I'm thinking of the scene where Ronald is in front of the mirror with his reflect. Simply amazing.

  • @Phaetonmagic I think the best part for me is I live very close to Venice and frequent all the areas in the movie (I was in the Playland Arcade that Pilot set up in last week) so it's incredibly trippy to see them portrayed in this twisted AU version of LA.

  • I'm growing bored with films I understand through and through. I yearn to be totally mind-fucked. All these films with great actors, and easy-to-please scenes bombard the movie racks. Southland Tales is akin to a monkey grazing the fourth dimension. Pure, yet corrupt. Flailing seamlessly on the edge of a Rapture.

  • Quit waisting beer timberlake!

  • @Colossus3999 It's Bud, it's probably better off on the floor to be honest.

  • @Colossus3999 I think he's already had more than enough by this point...

  • just great!!!

  • such a cool movie

  • this movie was nutz

  • I would highly recommend anyone to watch Southland Tales even if you think it looks shitty or whatever. It's a fantastic movie both the visuals and sounds of the movie are set perfectly with one another. If you watch this movie expecting some revolutionary movie about the end of the world or try to read deeply into it then you will not like it. However if you want to watch it just to enjoy a good movie i couldn't recommend anything better. Not saying its the best but pretty damn good.

  • Such a strange movie. It was a decent movie just reallllllly wierd.

  • The best part of SLT

  • Am i the only person that sees Christina Aguilera??

  • Theres a good movie in here somewhere. It just got lost in all the political stuff. Richard Kelly had a draft of the script pre-911 then rewrote it afterwards. Would love to know what it was like before this movie.

  • @hoohoo3000 are you talking about haveing this movies script pre 911? if so it didnt exsist so idn how you think that is possible

  • @unholychunk Watch the making of on the dvd

  • @hoohoo3000 listen to him on a podcast with kevin smith put up a few days ago he says 911 partially inspired this and that he wrote it after.

  • @hoohoo3000 donnie darko had not been in theatres yet and had a few months earlier had gotten a studio to buy donnie darko 6 months after they screened it at sundance not alot of people liked it and cuz of 911 no one went to see it 911 partially inspired southland tales and he said he wrote it after so ya

  • @unholychunk Do you understand that people have the ability to write movies long before they ever get made? Read the wikipedia page under production you idiot.....

  • @hoohoo3000 ya i do understand that but he just did a podcast with kevin smith about southland tales and that is exactly what he said he said 911 inspired it you dumb fuck he says in it he wrote it after and there are way better sources for information than wikipedia you tool

  • @unholychunk I was gonna just leave you lookin dumb but the dumb fuck part made me actually wanna listen to the podcast. I don't hear anywhere in there that he said he wrote it after 9/11. My original point was that he changed his idea after 9/11 and that i would have liked to see the movie before 9/11. Go to villagevoicedotcom and read the article goodbye southland goodbye. That's not wikipedia. This should seriously be the end of it. I was right, you were wrong. done.

  • @hoohoo3000 you listend to the podcast. my work is done take care.

  • This is the part of the movie when Richard Kelly says "fuck it, I'm not even going to try to make sense anymore. I want some hot nurses in this movie and an awesome Killers song. And I don't care what any of it means!"

  • (cont.) fade away, his drug trip is ending and he's forced to face reality again. Also his flipping off the camera could be his rebellion against bthe government or the army which drafted him. Honestly I love this movie, I've watched it three times now and I still haven't quite figured it out. I'm gonna buy the graphic novels soon though.

  • @adamtherock2008 The reason you haven't understood after watching this piece of shit three times what the point is: Richard Kelly gave up on the script half-way through. I'm sure if I made a movie full of the most random shit I could think of you would be trying to psycho-analyze every bit of it, too.

  • @PepsiEnthusiast to each his own I suppose. I do believe that this would have done better as a miniseries on HBO or something. Still, their's definitely something worth watching here, even if it takes several viewings.

  • @adamtherock2008 Fair enough.

  • this scene is definitely random but my take on it is this: this whole music number is meant to be Pilot Abilene's escape from the grim realities of the world. The beautiful chorus girls, the singing and dancing represent the "simple pleasures" or perhaps what he really wanted to do with his life. The actual lyrics of the song make more sense with the scene then, he's got a beautiful artistic soul but he's in the wrong profession, he's not a soldier. Also towards the end when we see his smile...

  • that's exactly what my dreams are like.

  • spectacular film! xD

  • You can make energy using the ocean. Investment anyone?

  • it's "i've got soul, but i'm not a soldier", not "i got sober..."

  • such an amazing film, when we finished watching it my mates and i jus went "wow"

  • i got sober

    i´m not a soldier.

    damn right

  • @jockelinho dumb asse its i got a soul but im not a soldier dumb asse

  • @ 1:24 the best !

  • This scene would make anyone want to see the movie.

  • @ComingWithStyle i know rite

  • very nice

    ilove it :D

  • i thought the film was good, but i did'nt understand it one bit! lol

  • I love this part of the film. Totally unexpected, This is what got me listening to The Killers.

  • I showed Southland Tales to most of my friends, half of them didn't get it . I need new friends.

  • @unkledak you and me both.

  • @unkledak You didn' get it either!

  • ive heard bad things about this film. But i really want to see it

  • I'm a PIMP, and PIMPS don't commit suicide!!

  • @elw619 u should u lowlife jerk-off

  • @willrobm u fuckin homo!

  • @elw619 ... unhuh that's the best u got ... sheeit ... ain't it just like a self titled "pimp" to come up with homo ... daydreamin huh bitch ...

  • @willrobm whatever faggot, everybody tuff behind a keyboard huh bitch, get a life you fucking cocksmoker!

  • @elw619 ... always talkin bout smokin and suckin ... u caint hep yaself kin ya ...

  • @willrobm u still on that shit, fuck whatever loser!

  • amazing scene in an amazing film

  • I see many people on this wall bashing people who disliked this movie as part of the uneducated masses, and frankly I believe that's a bit of an overreach.

Personally, I love movies that make you think and especially indie ones since they tend to have more meaning.

I loved taring through the symbolic meaning of the seasons and their connection to literature in requiem for a dream . I loved indie "thinking" movies such as Brick, Moon and donnie darko.

  • @chrisarg donnie darko is GREAT!

  • Now that you know my back ground let me give you my thoughts on this movie. I found it as a jumbled mess of superficial subtexts. Most of the meanings were at surface level, with this movie putting it’s meaning in bold and caps lock. There was no reading between the lines or thinking, rather a survival of the onslaught of popular criticisms. It only scratched at the surface of the society it wished to expose. Was it on the right track? Yes. Was it weighed, measured & found wanting? Very much so

  • he is perfect for the song love it

  • Awesome scene in a very weird movie. The fact that Justin Timberlake tripping balls off a made-up drug made more sense than any other part of the movie is a little scary. This movie was really entertaining, but really weird. The visuals were amazing and the imagination was definately there, but honestly the movie WAS a mess. I don't like to be spoon-fed recycled movie plots, but i also don't wanna be confused to the point where i no longer care about any of the characters or the story.

  • @MGReilly86 you also notice his shirt and what that is representing........and also notice the Rocks shirt when the RPG rolls in to the blimp

  • Cause im a pimp...and pimps dont commit suicide!

  • @MalicetheEternal ooohhhhh aahhhhhhhhhh aaaiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeee im a pimpman pimps don't commit suicide;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; toto where are you toto toto toto aunti em aunti em ... help me im a pimp and im so scared ... dorothy will eat your fucking lunch school boy ...

  • @MalicetheEternal ohhhhh aaahhhhhhh aaiieeeeeee toto where are you toto toto toto ...oh aunti em aunti em im a pimp and im so scared ... dorothy will eat your fucking lunch ... ho ho ho ...

  • This movie roxx.

Cause im a pimp...and pimps dont commit suicide!

  • Your're video KICKS ASS!!!!!! Thanks for the laughs. WE LOVE BUDWISER. The great AMERICAN LAGER. We're having some right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • So. . .fucking. . .good. . .

  • I got a wiener but I am not a hotdog

  • Kelly is three for three in my book. Loved Donnie Darko, Southland Tales and the Box.

  • @DashCat9 i 100% agree i think his movies have been amazing so far, critics are ignorent pieces of shit who excpect a donnie darko repete, and not another clever idea for storys like his other two movies, but i bet everything i have that if he made a donnie darko repete theyd criticize him for that to

  • @HeadLikeAHole7791 I can understand why some people don't enjoy the movies. There are movies that make you think, and there are movies (Like Darko, Southland and to a lesser extent The Box) that are like puzzles you need to really dig into to understand and appreciate. I think it's an acquired taste.

That said...very few critics seem to understand that and they label it as a "mess" (a very popular term for Southland Tales, especially).

  • Obviously this too complicate for supafly

  • This movie isn't good at all, but this scene is fantastic. And Timberlake is suprisingly great in it. There is a big reason why this is all anyone can remember of this film.

  • This film has a huge following.

  • @supafly345 nah I remeber alot more, your just dumb, stick to avatar

  • I've got Sidney but im not Sidney Lee?

  • ive got soul but im not a soldier (perfect the way it is)

  • Strangest movie ever

  • Best part of the film.

  • Problaby the most strange film i've ever seen.

  • This movie is so god damn fucked up, I don't even know if I should hate or love it.

  • I just love his expressions at the very end of the song. It just says so much. Good acting, great film. Even all of the SNL actors in the film pulled it off.

  • I had the same reaction. I went into this one simply because the guy who did Donnie Darko made it, and was at first revolted when i saw people like Amy Poehler and Cheri Oteri involved but god damn if they weren't all good. Richard Kelly is a fucking visionary.

  • Kelly took a bunch of crappy actors and got great perfomances out of them.

  • He's a much better actor than I ever would've thought!

  • I got soul, but i'm not a soldier..... I just love this clip, i don't know why. It's very artistic in a sick way lol. Thanks for sharing.

  • love this movie so much

  • I think I understood about .00001% of this film.

And it still made the list of my all-time favorites.

If for no other reason, just beacuse it's so bizarre and thought provoking.

  • that was such a strange, but intriguing film.

  • You can make a shirt like that by cutting your chest open with a knife.

  • hahahahahahahahahahaha that was funny

  • @NathanVoodooShearer lmao im gonna try that now that shirts cool

  • I loved this part of the movie, it was epic, as is the rest of it.

  • anyone know how i can make a shirt that looks like that?

  • haha, very true...i dont know though..it does looks strikingly similar to watre and it doesnt foam at all when he opens the new one...

  • i always get the feeling that theres significance in that the beer hes drinking is obviously water...

  • No, that's definitely Budweiser. I know it's easy to confuse the two, as Bud has about the same alcoholic content as water.

  • Haha, nice XD

  • fatkat you have no idea what the movie is about do you?

  • Hmmm. So he's surrounded by all these beautiful women...and all he does is drink beer. Is Kelly trying to make some statement about guzzling beer and being a man?

  • He did an awesome job with that scene

  • timberlake as an actor: awesome

    Timberlake as a singer: no

  • He's a talented performer in any light. Although I am not a fan of his music just cause it's not my thing. I just mentioned the other day that I enjoy roles he plays. His spot in Alpha Dog was really amazing the first time I saw it.

  • I love this video

  • such a sick movie!

  • I can't help but think it means something that he doesn't sing along with the closing, "If you can, hold on." A very subtle moment.

  • I feel like after he dumps the bud on his head, it kind of brings him back to reality, and he realizes its all just a hallucination brought on by Liquid Karma.

  • Hes Hot! ;)

  • sweet !!

  • no. it makes more sense if you read the comics. Tavener was listening to this song as he was roping down from the helicopter right before he threw the grenade that wounded Pvt. abeliene. this just so cases the link that fluid karma users have (especially tavener and abeliene).

  • The movie is all sorts of confusing, i liked it. But is this part like some fucked up joke about advertising, sex sells sorta bullshit? Cuz he's like running around w/ a budweiser can w/ all these chicks on his junk. Heh heh cool video either way.

  • i never would have thought to cast justin timberlake as the 'crazy war veteran' but it works well i think.

  • Exactly as i suspected! Southland Tales was just an elaborate Budweiser commercial! Heh heh, i have no idea what the movies about, one thing that makes it great i think. And this weird music video in middle of the movie was funny and cool.

  • This is really colorful compared to the Killers' video for the song. I'd like to see the two put together.

P.S. Southland Tales (film) doesn't make any sense. But that happens... especially when you start with Chapter IV of a story.

  • worked well with Star Wars though^^

anyways awesome movie , without any sense to somebody who hasn't read the comics =D

though Dwayne Johnson really was cool , I never thought that I would like a movie starring him, in which he isn't a fistfighting badass^^

  • The best scene, except that car commercial. That was hilarious.

  • this was one of the greatest movies of our time and its sad most people have never even heard about it

  • Too many movies of our generation are marketed to the lowest common denominator of the population. Sadly, that leads to most movies being based on stupidity, unimaginative horror and/or ruthless violence. Any movie, such as this one, that actually requires any kind of intelligence to understand is overlooked or passed off because it's not in the "main stream".

  • i agree 110%

  • totally agreed

  • @Blasphemous1980 I disagree. This film tries SO hard to be clever that it ends up saying nothing.

  • @Blasphemous1980

Couldn't agree with you more. I remember it being released and didn't see it then after I caught it about 8 months after the release was shocked that it didn't get more positive press. There is so much to enjoy in this film that it is disappointing the reaction it has received.

  • @Blasphemous1980 Sadly, your attitude let's too many people think any movie that is actually successful is mindless, because it is, after all, mainstream. Don't be fooled, that can lead to the same blindness that the mainstream possesses, therefore you must not categorize anything and keep a clear view on everything.

  • @Blasphemous1980

You sound like a pretentious asshole. However I do love this movie.

  • @Blasphemous1980 or sometimes, the movie just sucks. I like to think i have a great imagination, i love low budget flicks, this was my favorite part of the movie and it was...essentially a music video in the middle of a stupid, convoluted plot. If you think this movie is deep it's bc you're too obsessed with Donnie Darko (a great flick) and have been smoking too much hash. LOVE THE ROCK, LOVE BUFFY, (tolerate) Justin Timberlake! BUT THIS MOVIE IS A WASTE OF SPACE!

  • @Blasphemous1980 my film student mate who i saw this with had to leave the room for 5 mins after this film because it totally fucked his point of view and how a film can be shot. I have never seen him that awed, confused and inspired. Both of us just went wtf/wow when we saw it. This is trulely a film that should define our decade. It's unfortunate my generation is too stupid and ignorant to accept it. Richard Kelly please expand our minds some more!

  • @Blasphemous1980 its just a movie bro,no need to get off like that.i agree with you but come on man.

  • @Blasphemous1980 its just a movie bro,no need to get off like that.i agree with you but come on man.

  • This video was slightly slowed down.

  • the movie itself was fantastic but the ending was shit, to comics were fucking weird and very serious like all the time

  • One of the best scenes from Southland tales, The movie its self is genious you have to watch it a few times to really understand it, its a good mind fuck!!!

  • This movie is like an acid trip from Hell, I loved it!

  • FiercSwitters, it's obvious you are one of those last word type of kids, I'm gonna really bug the hell out of you then.

  • To anyone that's read my comments. Don't be mistaken, FierceSwitters started this with me out of no where. He started calling me names and is now acting as though he did nothing wrong.

He continues to talk shit and when I comment back, he deletes it to make himself look innocent.

  • Haha what, kid? You thought that you weren't being obvious? You're an idiot kid but that was easy to figure out. Now go outside and work off some of that big fat ass.

  • Says the CHILD that started all this with me. Who posted to whom first? Who started the name calling first? YOU DID. So I guess that would make YOU the ridiculous one.

BTW, I didn't mispell "therfore," I quoted you you fucking idiot. You don't fix someone's spelling errors when you're quoting them.

Now run along and start an argument on another thread and then act innocent.

  • Comment removed

  • best films ever: Star Wars, Blade Runner, Southland Tales, Kill Bill, and The Matrix.

  • States the kid that randomly fell into this thread to start an argument with me...you stated that you like to come on youtube and annoy people and now you're making up excuses at to why you haven't been on your profile page much? Just keep it going, you're digging deeper and deeper.

  • Comment removed

  • I "really sure are?" Damn son, you're dumber than I originally gave you credit for.

You come to youtube and start fights, it's obvious to anyone that reads these remarks that you're a pathetic wimpy child.

LM AO! I'm pretending to be a girl? You're a fucking retard! How exactly am I pretending to be a girl?

Come on dummy come up with something oh so not clever as your comeback. Let me guess, it's "duechebag," right? Bwahaa

Let's go retard, make your mommy and dadd proud.
