Hi Tom. YouTube took away my HQ settings too..Seems like when a video has high viewcounts and has been on channel for more than two years, they think it ain't worth the bother of keeping them looking good like when they were first uploaded :(
No wonder people are considering uploading to other video-sharing sites; leave them here and watch them deteriorate.
To bad the fat cigar chomping know nothing corporate jackasses dont understand these videos increase there sales by giving the public a taste of something they would otherwise never been hip to.Sad-Thanks for the post narcoleptus is was one of the best while it lasted-
Man, I saw Dr. John in Kansas City about 2 years ago. It was phenomenal, and his performance with the band on such a night. He is a master at what he does
Cheers
SO cool to find this tune on Youtube. The whole cd is so good. It is a spiritual journey on its own. I head that Dr.John recorded this album in one time without correction or anything. Frank Zappa was recording an album and he allowed Dr John to use a bit of his time in the studio to record this killer album.
I'm a native New Orleanian and living back in the city. It's interesting how similar the vibe in this video is to the vibe I get walking down Dauphine street late at night in the French Quarter or Marigny. I think it would be great to see a similar video with the song "I Walk on Guilded Splinters" by Dr. John...I consider it "part 2" to this song, really...2 different sides of the same Bayou VooDoo spell...
You're right, it would be hard...I've also seen too many good things deleted, best to watch out. Glad to see our music is appreciated in places far away. Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez!
Thank you so much for the invite! It is one of my biggest dreams to come and visit this fascinating city. If you happen to come to Amsterdam, let me know and I will show you around!!!
I believe you! Any well known artists music I use on my vids and I get paranoid then start meeting people who know them! I used a well known Rolling Stones number on one vid then remembered a friend of mine wko's mates with a certain singers brother! I afraid to use any van morrison music because I see him in the town occasionally!(I have anyway but don't tell anyone!) and he might give me a mouthful!
gris gris is just an amulet or a small cloth back that is beleived to protect the the one who wears it from evil.its just another one of the million differant forms of a mojo hand.like conjure bags,,toby,,jomo,,nation sacks, and many others that came from the wanger backs in africa
Gumunder,,There are many differant parts of voodoo, many so called white magic that can bring love,or health,,but the one you want to watch out for is what is known as black magic, wich i think speaks for its self..Ler me know what kind are you interested in and i may be able to help
yeah,i really like the vidio you did,it really fits, cause even without it,you can just sit back and close your eyes and picture yourself walking down the streets of hoodoo vision.you did a really good job,i tip my dark sunglasses to you.
Dragonzep...maybe YOU can HELP me..I'm assuming that you know about Voodoo since..I kind of recognize some patterns in your idea flow..I have experienced Voodoo on my OWN..I learned it from playing THIS album on the guitar..is that STRANGE or WHAT? Anyway..I now have the ability to do spells, but NO information about what to watch out for and what the HELL is going on..seriously. Please help..PEAcE.
the voodoo man known as dr john was a New Orleans root doctor of the 1840s and 1850s. Also known as John Montaigne and Bayou John, he was busted in the 1840s for practicing voodoo with Pauline Rebennack, who may or may not have been a distant relative of our man Mac. One of Mac's grandfathers sang in a minstrel show, and the latter-day Dr. John adapted one of grandpa's favorite tunes, "Jump Sturdy," into the track on Gris-Gris of the same name.
Thankyou dragonzep, no one who ever hears this forgets it, ever, because its timeless and haunting! people will always get inspiration and something special from his music.

This video, however doesn't look too bad.

Is there any thruth in the rumour that Dr. John got fired by Frank Zappa after the good doctor offered him a joint during a recording session?
Efrasnel 3 years ago
I have tons of stuff on zappa but never read anywhere about he and dr.John doing a recording sesion.
splankhoon 3 years ago
It's something I read in a Dutch magazine, circa 1989. I remember it because it struck me as something atypical of the '60s and '70s.

Ik zeg niet dat het waar is...maar geef toe, het is een mooi gerucht. John's reactie in het interview was: "I was just being social, y'know".

I think the leftover recording time was from a Sonny and Cher recording session.

Thanks for your comment.
I love 'Walk on gilded splinters' but its such special, timeless music that doing justice to it would be hard!
Still a great idea though!
The copyright wars have made me jumpy!
I've seen friends channels being deleted by youtube for having copyright music!
I love the music and want to share it! simple as that!
Thanks for firing me up!
All the best to yourself and to New Orleans, the very best!

The name "Dr. John" came from a legendary Louisiana voodoo practitioner from the start of the 19th century.
