Ok, okay, I cry uncle. I'm sure many execs are average joes, and I'm doubly sure most business-class seets are filled with middle-management fannies. Really. And JetBlue's not the most accomadating, sure. But clueless execs and their assistant's assistants wandering, stunned, thru a terminal is FUNNY! Just a little bit of schadenfreude isn't out of place this year! '-)) Don't believe me? Let me show you my retirement statements...
I totally agree that it is funny at first glance, only because it continues to perpetuate the false myth that business jets are only a needless frivovility.
Take a visit to Wichita, KS where there are now 30,000 people that used to have a job building jets for businesses. There are over 1 million jobs in America that depend on general aviation.
Funny video, but the problem with JetBlue is that they don't even provide ANY service to 31 states. I don't know too many companies that can completely ignore 31 states and still provide effective service to them. General and business aviation provide service to 3000 communities around the country that Jet Blue can't go to, even if they wanted. It's all funny until 30,000 workers building business jets here in a America all lose their jobs. (It's already happened.)
Point taken, but on a wry note, why would CEO's and CFO's ever GO to Moline or Peoria? Let's face it--their houses, politics and ethics hug the coasts--not the REAL America!!
Another misconception here. Over 80 percent of business jet usage is to fly non-executives, such as engineers and sales staff. And there are plenty of CEOs that live and work in places not well served by airlines.
Where is the headquarters of John Deere? Are they not a large company in your mind? How do you expect the CEO of John Deere to travel from his HQ to visit a client in Montana?
Where is the HQ of Wal-Mart? The largest corporation in America? Do you chastise them for having a fleet of 26 airplanes? Do you honestly believe that Wal-Mart would spend money on planes if they weren't an awesome business tool?
You're right... and JB doesn't have a premium cabin, offer coat checks, free meals or liquor. Items business travelers may like when loyal to an airline. Here, I think JB is just trying to say, "Hey business traveler, we're not completely geared to the leisurely crowd as you might think. If you're flying JFK-IAD and want a good price, keep us in mind."
its not ecause they dont want to fly to those 31 states but because they cant. airlines cant just go picking places to fly. they have to purchase routes from other airlines and make contracts with airports.
The point is that there AREN'T ANY ROUTES to buy for over 3000 airports around the country that aren't served by ANY commercial airlines. And there are tons of places with commercial airline service that don't have direct routes to other cities. Many companies would prefer to spend $4000 on a direct flight from A to B rather than $400 on a meandering trip through Houston or Atlanta, especially if their plant is shutdown and they need a part or person there to get it going again pronto.
Please malke more of these, execs now tell them how to get to their corporate retreats, to get to their corporate golf courses and corporate seats in Yankee stadium. Get there using Jetblue,...
