  • great tutorial videos man. Good man for taking all the time to do this.

  • I'm not new to programming, I've been doing Basic, Java, JavaScript, VB, HTML, & more since I was practically a baby...but I'm trying to figure out what the hell Python is really for...I'm having trouble seeing where python fits in....

  • @IMaDEM0N It's usually used and was made for making simple (but useful) applications. It also is used as a glue language for C++ and Java, to make larger computer applications better.

  • Your tuts are really great !!! +++++

  • so how exactly do i output a string with backslashes in it?

  • @xcvsdxvsx

try two backslashes, like this "\\"

(if you havnt figured out already)

  • he is like the best teacher i've ever had!

  • 5:03 Thats totally ghey

  • Lol, the google tutorials took over an hour to explain strings and at the end of it I said, huh?

You took only 6 mins to explain this in the easiest possible way, you're just awesome!

  • How would you be able to do it to add numbers together? for example num1 = 2

    num1 * 2 would print 22

how would u get it to actually print 4?

    thanks

  • @cookiechriss1994 You can use int() to treat the string like an integer. Your example would be int(num1) * 2.

  • 3:50 "Its the part of Engrish... no, English language"

  • Dude, you should become a high school teacher and teach this stuff to your students

  • Bucky the Python Slayer.

  • "It's gonna see this quote over here and be like 'W-T-F is this?'"

I love this dudes laid back approach teaching this stuff.

  • I'm confused should i follow this tutorial or waste almost an hour in MIT OCW per lecture !!Please help!

  • Are you drunk in this Video, just wondering? You were slurring alot this time around.

  • thank you very much Bucky for doing these tutorials. your a very good teacher and im learning so much just after a few of your videos. im gonna watch your whole series and subscribe. thanks for the help!

  • OakleyPrograming under backspace :) \\\\\

  • This is sad, you roughy me in less than an hour what my teacher couldn't teach me in 15 weeks

  • @F35FLYER True. Same here

  • BAM !

  • @nameless527

I only see three quotation marks in that sentence. "Bucky said, \"hey now\"."

  • hey, when i typed "bucky said, \"hey now\" to me" it came out as: SyntaxError: invalid syntax. you know what i did wrong?

  • syntax*

  • is there hungarian systax in python xD ?

  • Is there a way I can use this to mod minecraft? I'm learning to code with java by myself (I have basic knowledge at it is becoming difficult to discern what some codes mean) and was wonder if python could help make the process easier.

  • You can acutally just use the alternate like "he's a jerk" 'bucky said, "hey now" to me' no need for escape anda= "bucky"

    >>> b= "Roberst"

    >>> a+" "+b

    'bucky Roberst'

  • You can acutally just use the alternate like "he's a jerk" 'bucky said, "hey now" to me' no need for escape

  • So variables can also be used with names? and "hello" or 'hello' is the same as print "hello"?

  • I went ahead and donated $5 bucks. I hope you keep making these AWESOME tutorials for us and I hope you stay sharp. Good luck ;)

  • Yet more excellent work, thanks. Not boring at all.

  • you sound tired

  • Boring??!?!? your tutorials are the best on youtube and any other websites.

  • yo man....i can't help this but gotta say YOU ROCK...YOU ARE MUCH BETTER THAN MY PROF....I WORSHIP YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(APPROACHING INFINITY)

  • bucky is my favorite teacher! :)

  • Or you could put "He's a jerk"

  • "A shtring is a shtring of characters"

  • this is like the first programming language that makes sense to me all thanks to you mr bucky!!!! cheeeeeeeeers man

  • Moar moar MOAR!! :D YOUR AWESOME I FINNALY UNDERSTAND ALOT ABOUT PROGRAMMING

  • BAM!!

  • tq bro

  • Your doing a great job. You should specify what you can do "as is" and what you would being doing with more code in place. like the backslash idea. On my python I can't do that because I don't have it already set up. It helps if you only explain what you are doing at the moment and what it is for. Also, when you start a new function or command or whatever word you place in there, you can offer how to find more of those, Like where can we find a list of commands for python? It's good though.

  • @btyler4606 Scratch that.

  • And does anyone know how to create stand-alone exes from .py files?

  • Instead of raw_input("Pressenter") - (what are the triangle brackets for (can't type) for?) couldn't you do...

    raw_input("Press any Key: ")???

  • Great Tut man :) !

  • who is a jerk ? :D

  • @DarkCytomation

It did exactly what it was supposed to do. print "So your name is x" What you should have wrote is:

print "So your name is " +x

  • Can someone please help me?

    x = Jason

    Why cant I go,

print "so your name is x?"

it doesn't come up with "so your name is jason?"

    HELP PLEASE

  • @DarkCytomation Should be:

    x = "Jason"

print "So your name is " + x

  • @DarkCytomation Put quotes around Jason and use print "so your name is " + x

  • can you do a video on how to get idle

  • what are "shdrings"? just kidding, you're great

  • there is also ''' ''' who's really useful for sentence ^^

  • i'm new to programming and a friend of mine told me to start with python because it was easy. I learned a little C++ in school and python is really easier than C++ :D :D great tutorials, dude ;)

  • I hoped so hard he was gonna type " let\'s go fisting"

  • Then what if you have assigned a value to your variable such as

    a = 1

    b = 2

Now you want to mathamaticaly add the two, but if you just put

a+b you would end up with 12.?

so how do you add two variables with values together?

  • @MessedUpNinja Then it's not counted as a string because there's no quote marks and you should just be able to do a + b and it will be 3.

If that doesn't work, sorry can't help ya.

  • @MessedUpNinja that's python math a=1 b=2 is the same 1+2=3 or a+b=3. if you wanted a+b to come out as 12 then you would write a = '1' b = '2' and they would turn into strings instead of values. I'm pretty sure.....lol I am new to this stuff.

  • @Ministryoflove1984

    Python doesn't differentiate between ' and ", if you want a + b to equal 3, then you would need a = 1 and b = 2.

    Both a = "1" and a = '1' (and the same with b) will give you a + b = 12. It can be easily confusing.

  • Also, how can you control whether it puts ' ' or " ", because it kept switching between. Thanks.

  • What's the difference between doing:

    print "Hey now"

    and

    "Hey now"

  • @ChukMakeIt remeber in tut 5 where he shows how to open a new window to actually make a program?

If you erase the print so that it only says "Hey now" (or just "hey") the out put of it saying "hey so and so"

doesn't pop up. So what i think that print does is that it tells the program print out what it is being to. other wise it just ignore it without it.

    i guess.

  • @sailornaruto39 Thanks, that sorta makes sense.

  • 'Bucky said, "I think he\'s a jerk."'

    returns:

    'Bucky said, "I think he\'s a jerk."'

So you can't use ' and " in the same statement.

  • dude you are hilarious! please keep making tuts :)

  • That is the best explanation of strings I have ever seen. You have a talent for this which you use to good effect. Thanks for doing this series.

  • wheres the back slash key? ahhh!

  • @OakleyPrograming it is beside backspace (comp. keyboard)

  • @OakleyPrograming useally above enter

  • @OakleyPrograming Above the enter key

  • @OakleyPrograming try out "AltGr + Q"

  • @OakleyPrograming it sould be besida your "+" buttom i think

  • @exxizoin505 UK keyboard and it is beside the Z.

  • @allymac1009 sorry, im in norway soo.

  • @OakleyPrograming it is under ur back space

  • @OakleyPrograming above the enter key...

  • @OakleyPrograming same line of buttons as qwertyuiop[]\ see

  • That was fun and hilarious... what you talkin about?

  • Im beging in school with strings in C++ and im confused with "matrice"(sory its on serbian) but im mmixing these 2 things together help!!!!

  • Finally, Python tutes that make sense! Thanks, Bucky.

  • You should of wrote "Bucky said, \"hey now brown cow\" to me."

  • you tube isnt working for me... i did write some shit about /n is new line... 0_o

  • fising, it's the same thing xD

Great tutorials man, taught me lots

  • Your tutorials are awesome :D Thanks man

  • I want output like below :

    Hello\'

Can you please tell me how should i print back slash(\) & single quotes(') together?

  • @17avskadoo 'Hello\' you just need to put a ' before writing and ' at the end.Peace

  • he's a jerk..:)

  • Can I like it twice, I watched it twice ?

  • Nice, I've been learning from the book How to Think Like A Computer Scientist which is nice too but since I'm totally new to programming it's going a little slow.

Vids I can clearly see this will speed things up and I have no doubt I can review all these lessons and finish beginners python learning in less then a couple weeks now

Great Job on the Vids thanks

  • These tutorials are proving really useful to me. Really well explained and easy to understand. Thanks a bunch, Bucky. :)

  • 3:26 so cuteeeee XD

    "I'm just a computer, I can't understand" XD!

  • thanks a lot u doing a wonderfulllllllllllllllllll jobbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb

  • watts up bucky

  • Man your tuts are the best, the other nerds are like, the contuninium of dah string is equal to the weght times mass. Ur like, Yeah, you can't do triple quotes or it will be like "WTF is this?"

  • i love these tutorials

    "WTF is this?"

    LOOOOOL

  • @5:45. a + " " + b works too :)

  • You are an awesome teacher. You make it so easy to pick up that I can watch sooo many videos and learn so much so fast!!!!

  • Ignore them python,IGNORE THEEEEM.

  • 'dude thank\'s for these tutorials'

  • "I'm just a computer, I can't understand."

    priceless

  • @ShinyHunterBWord you mean "I\'m just a computer, I can\'t understand."

  • @ImHollywoodvids YOU mean 'I'\m just a computer, I can\'t understand.'

  • @ImHollywoodvids Actually, I wasn't trying to make a python (or general programming) refrence. I was just taking a direct quote.

  • @ShinyHunterBWord Dont forget we gotta tell python to start actin right

  • Thank you :)

  • you are moooooses

  • best teacher eva!

  • dude you are best!

  • Thanks man, I'm really learning from your tutorials

  • nice tutorial..

  • This ain't boring, dawg. You schoolin' us noobs up right and good.

  • A MILLION THANKS!!! CLEAR TUTORIALS!!! GENIUS!!!!

  • "N be like WTF is this!" lol

  • strings are important

  • it's not so boring, I like your talk.

  • you are the greatest teacher! I look forward to every video, and the little things you say make it funny! Keep it goin man!

  • love concatenation

  • that was great

    "wtf is this?!?!"

    good stuff

  • can you make real programs like ms paint ?

  • great!

  • fising: look for fishing.

  • How do you get it to display the following?

    Typing \" dispays the quote

    Would it be

"Typing \\\" dispays the quote"? cos u have to escape both?

  • @coolman9999uk Yes, you're exactly right. You have to escape both the backslash and double quote.

  • i want to add 2 variables how do i do that instead of it going 45 + 67 = 4567

  • @tomek123kotek make a new variable such as" c = a + b"

and then another line of "print c"

my guess is you have been writing "print a + b"

  • @rohit91 no and ive fixed it a long time ago... i used raw_input to store numbers for some reason

  • Not sure how i feel about a program that "just guesses" the other quote is the end :P

    great tutorials :D

  • Dude, you are the best teacher

  • Not boring...very interesting...Instead of teaching with a black board and chalk it's a lot more interesting...I didn't know fising and Fishing meant the same tooo...before this :P

  • I love your videos bro your helping me loads, also the way you correct yourself is funny.

  • curse the english language XD

  • AWSOME TUTORIALS, seriously you should like get a job at a programming instruction college because you explain soo well

  • Great tutorials, Thanks
