The problem with this is that she's still young and at a time when she still being socialized or inculturated. If she was in high school, the loser joke wouldn't be as hurtful or have been taken differently (depending on the individual but with some understanding), but she's still 12. + the pencil chucking part is too far and should be considered an offense as it demoralizes, humiliates and scares someone into a forced position, even as adults.

I will probably get abuse for this but, at least he was trying something. So many teachers don't care about their students failing a test, they are only in it for a pay cheque. This guy (knowing that these things go home to the parents) did something that he knew was, sooner or later, going to get him into hot water. But he did it anyway. I definately dont agree with what this teacher did but most of you dont understand the self sacrifices made. Not only is the workload horrendous, it is an emotionally draining, high stress job. You get sworn at, threatened, and ridiculed 6 hours a day, 5 days a week. Especially if you work at a school in a low socio-economic area.

When I was in 5th grade, my teacher hated me and the whole year made it known. She went as far as to have a 6th grader bully me. I was a tiny person and this other student towered over me. He actually hurt me and I had no real way of defense.
One day towards the end of the school year, this teacher made a comment about me to another student. I responded stating that I knew that she was talking about me. so she sent me to the principle. She even told the principle that she disliked me.
Two of my primary school teachers potentially ruined my childhood with many blatant acts of discrimination against me for no apparent reason at all. This went on for two whole years! My Mum tried over and over to get it to stop to the point where she went to the extent of removing me from the school because the Principal thought it "wasn't a big deal". If the Teachers were to say those things to me TODAY, I could probably take it . . . but when you're 10 or 11, it just tears you up inside.

Wow... I can't believe this could even happen. In Australia that teacher would be fired ASAP, that is if they even managed to get their teacher qualification which they wouldn't have. I am a student teacher doing practicum at the moment, and yes it is a stressful job at times, but that doesn't give any teacher any excuse to do that to a child. Horrible.

There is always the avenue of homeschooling and then the child could possibly receive no adversity. I have been in the best and some of the worst schools and a teacher printing Loser on a paper pales in comparison to the real issues that are facing our kids.
I say again, what has the success rate been of this teacher and if there is a problem, where are the other parents? There are real education issues facing American students and if we dont look to solve educating our young then America will be worse then it is today.
First and foremost and If it was a problem then the parent should have taken the time out not only to attend the class with their child but also be prepared to move their child If there was any threat, then gather with the parents of students in that class who are dealing with the reality and make change.
As I stated previously, we have not been provided enough information to make an informed decision on an action that took place between others. I have discussed this with several educators. I wish that this type of attention was truly given to discipline our young. The reality is that the parents are there to ensure their childs future success.

I do agree though that teachers have a tough job (god knows mine did) but I feel like all of the teachers that I look back on now as great teachers, who were genuinly gifted in the area of inspiration, were the ones who changed it up a bit a tried a different tact......

I definately dont agree with what this teacher did but most of you dont understand the self sacrifices made. Not only is the workload horrendous, it is an emotionally draining, high stress job. You get sworn at, threatened, and ridiculed 6 hours a day, 5 days a week. Especially if you work at a school in a low socio-economic area.
His actions were wrong...but his opinion is probably right.

This fuels pessimistic feelings in that child which is not good at all. Roland's teaching should bent towards encouraging and disciplining a student. Not some name-calling. A good method you say? Saying "failed" on an assignment merely means that they didn't get a good enough score on it. "Loser" is just an insult to their character. Even in they did fail the assignment it wouldn't be inappropriate for the teacher to call them a failure because it's an insult to character that deals more than just the assignment at hand.

When I was in 5th grade, my teacher hated me and the whole year made it known. She went as far as to have a 6th grader bully me. I was a tiny person and this other student towered over me. He actually hurt me and I had no real way of defense.
One day towards the end of the school year, this teacher made a comment about me to another student. I responded stating that I knew that she was talking about me. so she sent me to the principle. She even told the principle that she disliked me.

Two of my primary school teachers potentially ruined my childhood with many blatant acts of discrimination against me for no apparent reason at all. This went on for two whole years! My Mum tried over and over to get it to stop to the point where she went to the extent of removing me from the school because the Principal thought it "wasn't a big deal". If the Teachers were to say those things to me TODAY, I could probably take it . . . but when you're 10 or 11, it just tears you up inside.

Wow... I can't believe this could even happen. In Australia that teacher would be fired ASAP, that is if they even managed to get their teacher qualification which they wouldn't have. I am a student teacher doing practicum at the moment, and yes it is a stressful job at times, but that doesn't give any teacher any excuse to do that to a child. Horrible.

I had a simular prob with my daughters 1st grade teacher...needless to say, after I contacted the proper people, she was released from her teaching at that school! She started teaching at another school, and had the same thing happen to her there....she NO LONGER is allowed to teach now!!!!! =) I hope the same happens to this SCHMUCK...revoke his abilities to teach.
