I'm pretty sure that this is Joseph Arthur. It's just a live version. That's why his voice sounds a bit different, but if you listen closly, you'll hear that it's the same person.
I came across exactly this live version a few times before. That's why I'm really sure about this.
@feuerballx3 Really? Wow: now that I think about it, it really is.
I'm a bit disappointed that this means there isn't another artist to follow, but I'm now even more impressed by Joseph Arthur. He knows how to sing. :)
@Nevflinn I'm with feuerballx3 on this. I'm pretty sure this a live version by Joesph himself. It's at some convention or something, I used to have it on an old computer, got lost so this is a lucky find for me. If you listen to other live versions he almost always sings the song differently each time, one of the beautiful things about live music. This is without a doubt my favorite version of the song, and one of my favorite songs of all time.
@KingKrunkmungas your right. i dont know what kind of music you appreciate. and that was pretty presumptuous of me. but mostly i was bothered by the "it just figures its christian" comment.
and the comments look pretty christian because people read too much into stuff.
btw youd be fucking surprised by how extensive my music taste is.
@KingKrunkmungas so by the same logic, if you hear a song about anything else and you dont like it, you conclude that everyone who has anything in common with the singer is pathetic, am I getting it right? Madonna singing about some shit means every white woman is pathetic?
Or is it just that you have some need to bash everything you dont understand, because your daddy touched you when you were little or something?
By what same logic? I don't even know who is in common with this singer. Some one said its not christian.
No, I don't assume that. Obvious that is a beyond ridiculous example. I know 'christian' music i know 'christian' people. And its all the same mate. Generic, heartless non creative junk. No rhythm.
@KingKrunkmungas All 'christian' music is the same? Not really, try listening to blessthefall, the devil wears prada. They're christian bands and sound NOTHING like this, but they're great, just as this song is. If you're just here to bash music, because you don't like it, please don't waste your time, we'll still like it.
......okay. believe whatever you choose. It doesn't matter what reality says and just what is..just what you say and and choose to see. Devil Wears Prada..wow thats christian, great name. yeah right I'm just here to bash music..i'm here to state my opinion and speak my piece about Generic music. Generic is the enemy I am a soldier and music is my weapon.
@KingKrunkmungas Umm i normally hate christian music but have to say this is a well structured and well written song i dont find it generic in the slighest. Most rap music and dance techno etc thats generic this isn't
alright bro..to each his own. to me this is annoying and generic. The lyrics just hold no weight in their message..its just saying Gods love be with you but theres no reality to it. I do like his voice at 2:06.
and ya..most Rap/HipHop and Dance...well most of all genres are generic. Its the select few that are unique and enjoyable.
@KingKrunkmungas indeed thats very true. And yeah most is god loves u blah blah blah but some is a bit different. like p.o.d arent always talking about god but are very much a christian band. Personally the god shit does nothing for me in this tune i ignore it and just listen to the tune its pretty soothing
@KingKrunkmungas The question is though could you imagine the song with any other lyrics? Im not in any way a religious person and happen to think the whole idea of church's is completely wrong. That said in my opion I think that this song is made by its use of religious iconography, and to me its not so much about the actually idea of god but just the sentiment behind the words
actually, joseph arthur wrote this, not howie day...but if you want to hear a great version, try coldplay with michael stipe live, actually the best version ive heard of it (in my opinion)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Not to be nit picky... But the Howie Day version of this song is the one seen on Scrubs. I prefer Day's, but this one is good too. Arthur's is a cover (he changes it up well).
18:9 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast [it] from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire....
I believe that you are right, but i really found this song NOT through scrubs although i love scrubs, i knew it before, cause I like this music and stuff
@FFF813 No argument there. They literally mined through the hoards of independent music, found the ones that are the most beautiful and most appropriate in context, and placed them there. maybe more 'religious' people should follow your example.
Jesus came to save not to condemn. Although he did bang on about hell quite a bit didnt he?....
paddymourinho 2 years ago
ehh... no. he didn't. it's again his so called 'followers' who created this picture of hell to keep the crowd under control.
fear is a great way of controlling masses.
if i'd be asked to describe the work of this man from Nazareth i'd say: love. for all. for everything. no exceptions.

Jesus talked about hell, you cannot deny that...Unless your saying he was misquoted lol
paddymourinho 2 years ago
@samopdrift really so when Jesus said "I did not come to bring peace on the earth but a sword" what do you suppose that means?
and what about " You are my friends IF you do what I command you" ? that doesnt sound like no exceptions.
I suggest you read a little more.
