I'm pretty sure that this is Joseph Arthur. It's just a live version. That's why his voice sounds a bit different, but if you listen closly, you'll hear that it's the same person.

I came across exactly this live version a few times before. That's why I'm really sure about this.

@Nevflinn I'm with feuerballx3 on this. I'm pretty sure this a live version by Joesph himself. It's at some convention or something, I used to have it on an old computer, got lost so this is a lucky find for me. If you listen to other live versions he almost always sings the song differently each time, one of the beautiful things about live music. This is without a doubt my favorite version of the song, and one of my favorite songs of all time.

That said in my opion I think that this song is made by its use of religious iconography, and to me its not so much about the actually idea of god but just the sentiment behind the words
