Sorry, this is pretty bad. The song's too good to be destroyed by a weird and inappropriate performance of it, but these guys are sure trying to kill it. This is just wrong, that's all.
Take it as Scottish pride if nothing else for heavens sake. Oh good heavens... google is questioning my sincerity. like government. i say fuck them and the government they worship.
It's great to hear this, why not hear it with the pace faster, I think it's a good change, Rabbie never recorded his songs on a bloody c.d., who's to say how he wanted them played, good on ya Stuart.
Thank you so veery much Stuart for everything you did for Scottish Rock music, and thank you for giving this song a vibrant new take...you are still so sadly missed..will we ever see your likes again...
and of course at the entrance to Pitlochry is a distillery, midway is the Tummel dam (which spawned the song "Crokked Jack" - check it out) and up the road is Blair Atholl, the Duke has the only authorised private army in the UK....
Go and visit the site, soldiers leap is quite impressive, I can't jump that far! Just remember that many of the Government troops were Scots as well (lowlanders)
dear janette122, what original ?? Rabbie singing his verses in a pub in the 18th century? The Corries great version of the 1960's? 3 Cheers for Stuart and Big Country for rocking it , Rabbie would have loved this!
Iv been a BC fan since they were formed and I never knew this existed. brilliant stuff, thanks for posting and God Bless you Stuart, May You Rest in Peace!
I explained the history behind this song to my wife who is part Scot and so now whenever I rupture the ears of my neighbours playing this at the correct volume she weeps.
I absolutely LOVE this version from Big Country. My ONLY complaint is that Chris Bell is on the Drums and not Mark B...Gene loves Jezebel is a far cry from Big Country!
J effin G, we're all so lucky to have you and your treasure-trove. Enjoy your holiday in Illinois or is it Wisconsin. Happy Birthday wherever you are Stuart. "Do you not know that we --?"
Sorry Cycloneaxe, but it seems you only like the Corries..listen again and you will perhaps appreciate Big Countries fresh and innovative version of a traditional folk song
Gotta side w/cycloneaxe on this one. Reminds me of the old Emerson Lake and Palmer monstrosities when they 'rockified' Mussorgsky. Love ELP and Big Country on their own stuff, but...
Sorry, but there is nothing that Big Country can do that can compare with Emerson Lake & Palmer..and I grew up with E,l & P. Thanks for your comments ..but I think your wrong! Love Big Country and think they were totally underestimated.
Splendid and tremendous. From a perfect band. I love a man that can truly express himself. Stuart Adamson, a man that understands. Beauty and poetry in motion. Deeply appreciated. Thankyou.
Thanks for putting this up. I love what he says about Burns at the end - no doubt they would have been great mates had they both lived in the same time.
I just saw a piece on VH1(USA) on "One Hit Wonder" segement. That is bullshit becouse Big Country has had many hits in the UK and I was fortunate to see them a few times. Their music will always live on ! Thanks Staurt and the gang for making my college years better.
great version by a great band.

bubbleboy02. They are not, nor do they pretend to be The Corries. They were a Rock Band and good on them for paying homage to their roots!

Not Pat Ahern....but Chris Bell or Simon Phillips or something like that if I remember.
MrWalleye73 3 years ago
is that pat ahern on the drums? Didnt look like Mark, I just checked the corries version and Stuart's version is to my ear far more stirring.
