Lightsaber effect with Final Cut Express 4

don't you have to like move the blade like every half second and re-render so that the blade looks like it's moving with the handle.

fyi - it's called rodoscoping if you didn't know.

@hobocamptheater Rotoscoping* I had to keyframe the blade frame by frame, which is at 30 frames per second, so it took a while.

I knew about key frame(ing) and 30 frames per second but I saw a video where someone didn't key frame, instead they took the lazy route and rendered every half second which made it look awful

not saying yours is horrible but it could look better (although it does say this was your first attempt so I won't hold that against you)

he found a picture of a lightsaber and used keyframing to move it. its pretty easy once you get the hang of keyframing

fxhome visionlab studio is great software for the mac to create the light saber effect. It took me 30 mins to get a good result but its £299 :(
