These guys really looked and sounded good when they performed with Taylor Swift on Crossroads. I hope they can get back to the basics of what made them great. At their best, they had extraordinary, captivating and interesting guitar interplay, great melodies, and vocals with solid dramatic storytelling/acting qualities. I've always thought Mickey Dolenz was one of the best singers of all time because he emoted much like Joe does. Songs are stories after all.

well to the preceding comments below, i can say HYSTERIA the album is a sellout while still being musically complex compared to the band's peers' work at that time. this album sounds the most polished and commercial of the steve clark era (the four with steve playing in the record) albums, but not as straightforward as you would say albums from poison or warrant or even whitesnake at that time.

@zilam98 Well while Def Lep often gets thrown in with bands like RATT , Poison , Crue , Cinderella etc etc which are good bands in my opininon ( xept poison) but none have touched leppard... While hysteria was a huge commercial succes and it sound so perfect and polished you can still hear the guys inside

Steve was a wizard he wrote catchy licks ... but he added his own twist on it ( reverse chords natural harmonies) and that made leppard unique in my opininion

Many people for some reason like to compare AC/DC with Def Leppard, and many people say AC/DC is better, but I prefer to support the under rated Def Leppard. To me it's either Def Leppard or an over rated group with a lead singer that sounds like an old lady who's smoked too many cigarettes and a guy in a skirt. I think the choice is obvious, personally. AC/DC is a hell of a lot better than most groups now-a-days and most other classic rock groups, too, but it's Def Leppard all the way for me.

@cliffthelightning I don't like saying sold out but you could argue that sold out to make this album. Don't get me wrong I love this album. Then they sold out to make Slang. Sold back out to the old fans to make Euphoria, the album I hate. Sold out again to make X. Really, if you don't like a certain era of Def Leppard, or any other band, why bother thinking about it. Just enjoy the music you like and forget about everything else. I feel its a waste of time to do otherwise, but that's just me.

It's only a sellout if they really abandon and distance themself from their original fanbase just to make money, not if they make albums that are more appealing to a larger audience. And how could 'Slang' and 'X' possibly be sell out albums? Even 'On Through the Night' was a bigger selling album than those albums were (as were, of course, their following albums). I don't even think that their combined sales could top their debut album's sales.
