This is NIDA -trained actor/comedian Garry McDonald(of Mother & Son tv fame with Ruth Cracknell) who in the 1970s invented the comedic character of Norman Gunston and pioneered the deadpan silly interviewer in the days when Sacha Baron Cohen/Borat was in diapers.

Celebs were 'interviewed'by 'Norman' and what he was doing was so new they often didn't 'get' that the whole thing was a joke.
