  • bolt that baby to the back of that wheelchair:)

  • this motor sounds so nasty i want those muffilars, what type are they?

  • @0:12 the dog is like what did I do? I was just checkin out the 406..now Im gonna piss on your wheelchair.

  • I went a little further and board mine 40 over 408 ci is even better lol

  • @trappedinabox100 weaker.run 5.7 rods for less outward stress on the bore.lol

  • @EddieJr93 actually 6.0 rod puts less outward stress on the cylinders

  • @LoganTheRedneck honestly i knew that, i must have been confused lol cus when i was building my enine my machine shop advised me to do this. lol

  • it is because they are s10 sbc headers.....motor sounds awesome man now i wanna build my 406....

  • quick question: what cam?

  • Comp Extreme 4X4

  • @tombonner

    Is it the X4270H?

  • yes

  • those look like s10 sbc headers. sounds good dude.

  • @lovemyskidoo They are, I have a set just like them on my S10.

  • Sounds amazing! I love it! I have one question though, is it just me or is the valve covers on upside down?

  • Thanks!, and yes, the valve cover is upside down. I put the engine in my 4X4 van and the oil fill tube needed to go in the front hole of the valve cover so I had to flip it.

  • @tombonner Your welcome, I really love it! And even though I'm a fan of Edelbrocks, I'll be the first to say, if you can get a Quadrajet done up right, you can't beat them! Thats why I save all the ones I come across, weather there good or bad...lol and thanks for answering my question.. It makes sense now.

  • I really like Quadrajets but sometimes they are a pain in the ass to set-up, you need to have patience and time. They are great for crawling through mud and tight trails in the woods.

  • @tombonner I agree, they can be very aggrvating sometimes, but when you get 'em right. WOW! lol. They are real good for mudding I agree.

  • I really like your test stand set up, awesome. Beats spending a small fortune on those dedicated models and it does the exact same thing. Thanks for posting, now I know what to do.

  • wow that muffler sounds GOOOOD... and very nice throttle response! what kind of muffler is that?

  • @1mesterious did he ever answer on the kind of muffler?

  • @woodyate Nope not that I have seen. Its not chambered I know that much. It could be Magnaflow, Borla, Dynomax Ultra flo, Thrush or any muffler like that but if I had to pick I would say Dynomax Ultra Flo.

  • sounds nice, did you build it completely, how much have you spent in all for this? i am just trying to have a guess how much its going to cost b/c im gonna build a 406 too

  • yes, from a bare block......got about $5,000 in it.

  • thanks for the info, looks like im going to have to start saving more lol

  • Sounds good.

  • i like that starter box you guys got. i was thinking of setting up a little break in stand using one of those storage rigs, kool set up.

  • they all wrap hard without the tranny but sounds great..

  • Nice throttle response! I always find an engine with sharp throttle response to be more impressive that all those engines out there running a cam with giant overlap on stock compression into a stock torque converter -- it's all sloppy, lethargic, & slushy.

On the other hand, an engine with just a little bit of chop with a light flywheel gives me goosebumps. IMHO, you can't beat a well-tuned Quadrajet on the street, especially if you follow Doug Roe's H-P book. Nice video!

  • Thanks! The Comp Extreme 4x4 cams are nice for low end snap. I've always loved Q-jets but they can be time consuming to set-up properly. They are very nice for driving in tight trails in the woods and through the mud.

  • As a matter of fact, I found your video while searching for 'chevy 406' -- I found/bought a well-seasoned 400 that's never been apart, much less bored. I have a set of Vortec heads (drilled for steam holes), and I am going to build a "406 Impersonator" -- the Hod Rod project where they made 525 ft/lbs of torque with it. All this is going into an '88 K-5 Blazer that currently has the factory 350/SM465 (granny 4-speed) installed.

    I was going to run a Q-Jet...

  • ...but after much soul-searching I decided to go with a complete MAF TPI setup (TPI, wiring harness, ECU) from a wrecked '87 Corvette.

In my project plan I just sent out I'm actually pointing to your video as an example of the kind of throttle response I hope to achieve with this combination...take this as a sincere compliment!

I hope to have as much fun in my repowered Blazer as you're having in your 4x4 Van.

Congrats on your engine & your hi-fi video!

    Cheers --

  • I see a Q-Jet on there, those are good carbs. My van has a custom one (done by the Carburetor Shop in So Cal) in it, very responsive.

So what's your camshaft like? Sounds like a good torque producer.

  • The Q-Jet is an Edelbrock 1910 850 cfm and the cam is a Comp Exteme 4X4. I love Quadrajets, most people hate them. They are very good for running slow through mud and tight trails in the woods.

  • Man, stick that beast in the van and lets go riding!

  • It's going in this weekend!
