woah, i have a police scanner, and when i used to live in georgia, i got this EXACT SAME signal interference, it was on the central APD tactical channel. i still have no idea what that is. but it went on for like a day, then it would come back like another day at random. anyone have an idea?

That's a paging signal. They bleed all over just about every freq on the band. Get a police scanner and you will here them. They can come from a lot of things. ATM's, a sat signal from a gas station etc. etc

it sounds like pocsag, probably originaly transmitted in narrow-FM mode
your TV s probably in AM modulation mode, and your radios in wide-FM mode, so that's why it sounds strange to you
And if it occurs only one time, it will be probably a result to propagation, another emission not far from you, and interferencing with original signals, kind of intermodulation, transmodulation or whatever it is
Is a radio beacon, ships and aircraft use them, i cath those signals all the time with an airband radio (cheaply obtainable) is around the 140 Mhz (Air band) and located on frequencies assigned to VOR beacons. The pager theory sounds plausible too...
Most of it sounds like old vhf paging those suckers blast up to 500 Watts and some times when conditions are right they will travel far (there are many of these around every city)..however, there are a few sounds in there as well that I have never heard before. 'Wall-e' sounds about right./. My Guess is that there was an e layer opening that day and it was right over your area and of course your electronic equipment got affected by the interference of these strong signals.

Very interesting Dave the first thing to check is the local transmitter and could it be the DAB testing for the switch over but if it was you should have had a message about this happening but I have never known that interference, mind you around June 2 there was a strange noise noticed at around 2 AM over West London not unlike this sound but not that loud or intense it was sort of in the back ground me and my neighbour's where woken by it as it went on for around 15 minutes then silent.
There are a number of ways the best one is the digital switch over site that will give you any test information or check out transmitter repairs but they can be found on the BBC if they are going to cause any outages.
I looked around the area you put for the airbase, indeed on the night we had it in London I checked my TV and DAB radio but they where fine, one other option is checking for any satellites that might be coming down but not sure if that would make that sound.
Well it could be a couple of things causing this. If you live in Maryland Comcast is testing out their digital network this week. It could be the planet Saturn (heard on am radio stations) or it could be the DTV that all broadcast stations are going to in 2009. That's probably what Comcast is testing also, their DTV stuff. Or it could be something else--in that case run for the hills.

I have to say that it sounds like something out a movie. I personally think it will involve something flying over that area because of the repeated sound and lasting for about 3 minutes.

So, it's Hz and that means a very low frequency ELF.
This could be something like H.A.A.R.P
maybe? This is a very large transmitter creating all kinds of trouble around the world.

White noise is the sound you get on the TV when it's set on an empty channel. Pink noise is when it's a radio.
