  • Classic

  • For a thirty second andi-drug commercial, this thing must have had a huge budget; between all the professional dancers they had to hire, the stunt cables to fling those drug dealers back, and the well light set, this must have been a real budget buster.

  • @dkupke You must be on drugs to have broke all that down to a compound.

  • @HanzoZer0 I've never done a drug in my life-though I will admit to drinking like a fish. But I've also worked in film and television, so I guess where others just see a slick commercial I see all the things that went into it. Cheers mate.

  • @dkupke Politicians will not hesitate to spend untold billions of dollars on stupid war-on-drugs shit like this, and they still do.

  • THE SINGER IS REALLY GAY :)

  • Anyone else only watch PSA ads when really stoned?

  • THIS SONG IS KINDA CATCHY :) AND IT MAKES ME WANT TO SMOKE A JOINT

  • Supposedly there have been many psychological tests that have proven telling a child NOT to do something, makes them want to do it even more. I wonder if the the designers of this propaganda were aware of this. Marketing has been a perfect science for quite awhile.

  • @LifePsyop Most of the time it's because it peaks their curosity even more. It's better to tell a simplified truth to children than to simply say "you can't just because."

  • i have no interest in drugs but this is fuckin gay lol

  • Classic! Haven't seen this in over 20 years!

  • I grew up with these PSA's, and as an adult I am now a strong believer that these substances need to be legalized and regulated, because bombarding kids with this kind of propoganda sure has not prevented them from using them later in life.

  • saturday morning junk!

  • Fucking Awesomeness at 0:12!

  • lol i would use drugs too if i had to live through the 80s..

  • What a strange,stupid decade that was

  • I remember this. This was one of the very few PSA's back then that didn't try to use scare tactics.

  • Some day I'm going to get a trench coat, hat, and sunglasses, and go to a play ground and ask kids "Hey kid wanna buy some drrruuggss?".

  • Hey kids, wanna buy a joint that's been glued to the underside of a trash can?

  • Just once could they make a PSA where the non-drug users look and act somewhat cool? If they made pro-drug ads all they would have to do is show the anti-drug people and say "do you really want to be like them...."

  • this would make kids wanna do drugs so they wouldnt end up like them lol

  • they really reached the kids on this one..

  • This commercial aired in 1986.

  • But in the contrary if she had did the drugs I think that would have been enough to creep me out.

  • They really don't think about it. If I had seen this comercial as a kid I probably would have did drugs asap. Idk Its kinda like that south park scene when they was trying to teach kids not to smoke.

  • As much as I understand and appreciate the government trying to persuade kids not to do this sort of thing, I think their way of going about it was wrong.

What they did was beat people over the head with this message of not doing drugs.

If any of you know any younger people, you'll know that telling them not to do something is pretty much guaranteed to convince them to do it anyway.

  • Be in control and be an original by doing exactly what we tell you...

  • 0:10

    "Nope." *wall ride*

    Thug life.

  • 0:25 bitch is a Jedi

  • Man I wonder how many of these actors do drugs? Must be awkward to do this commercial.

  • Wait, so they say I should be an original and not do drugs, but wouldn't that make me unoriginal since they're telling to be an original and not do drugs? Also I would unoriginal if I do drugs. So what do I do?

    Is it...is it pop tarts?

  • I grew up with these PSA's. Maybe they did help me avoid drugs-never so much as smoked a joint. Did not stop me from becoming an alcoholic though-two years sober now.

  • Be un-original

  • Fucking trippy as hell

  • I learned from this ad that if I don't do drugs I can use the force.

  • The trash can seems to be a great hiding spot lol

  • I like how they place cannabis in between heroin and cocaine and above opiates and ecstasy. Why wasn't the shady guy offering her alcohol as well?Oh yeah, it's legal, so I forgot that it can kill you, and destroy your body. But telling kids to never drink isn't authoritative, because you're allowed to do so legally. Does that make anyone else really mad? It all comes down to "drink responsibly" "don't do DRUGS (like marijuana)", yet alcohol is a hard drug. Today we see how contradictory that is

  • i love how they put marijuana next to heroine and cocaine

  • LOL! I still sing this jingle hahaha

  • Speaking as someone who remembers this on television, I feel almost guilty because I have in the last several years had an on and off alcohol problem.

  • You know drug use can keep you from getting a job and make you lose a job.

  • Ironically enough, this video is 10 times better high.

  • I always loved this commercial! It's one of my favorite anti-drug commercials.

  • So if I dont do drugs I will spontaniously break out into song and dance?

  • Hahahahahahaha....oh dear.

  • TOTALLY remember this PSA!!! I even remembered the words after not seeing this for over 20 years... and that's thanks to my life without taking drugs! lol! ^ ^

  • How come they never said the actual terms such as pot or crack? "Drugs" is such a vague term and confusing.

  • the background music is from dead or alive

  • i smoked pot for 2 years right after high school, then i got a job where i couldn't and it was the best thing that ever happened to me....sure i had fun, but i hated being down when i wasn't high, it turned me into a asshole, so fuck that.

  • good thing I watched this drunk . this message sponsored "buy the alcohol" Lobby. Say Yes to Budwiser instead bud. lol!

  • haha crack, meth, and shrooms aren't fun

    but marijuana is fucking awesome.

  • @1w2i3l4t Mushrooms are definitely fun. You must not be doing them right.

  • OMG... I've forgotten this had existed,.. and when i heard it instant comeback even signing the lyrics.. wow I've bot seen this in over 20 tears

  • this is the most 80's psa i have ever seen

  • OMG GREASE!

  • I bet the guy that sings in this commercial gets blazed everyday

  • drugs are for followers.go ahead and be just like everyone else.it takes an original to stand against drugs.i'll take the high road, and tell all the potheads to fuck-off!!!

  • @slicerad It's so brave to name call your opponents! God bless America!

  • i do drugs so i don't end up like those fags

  • Wow I totally remember this, especially that garbage can with all the drugs glued to it. Artifacts from the semantic wastes of history...

  • what a bunch if squares

  • How are they original if they all do the same dance?

  • This is from 1986.

  • If this is what happens to me when I don't do drugs, pack me another fucking cone.

  • This is from 1986.

  • i love weed, it makes all these funny commercials that don't make sense

  • You have a right to say no, but not a right to say yes. Normally rights imply a choice (right to silence, to a lawyer, to bear arms etc.) but since saying yes to drugs is criminal it can't really be concieved in the terms of rights.

P.S. I thought it said: “Be unoriginal” lol

  • This is 1984

  • damn if not doin drugs makes me look like that then i'm fucking buying everything on that guys derelict oil barrel

  • dont do trashcan drugs. m'ka

  • Is that Jennifer Beals in the end there?

  • drugs own and the only people who don't do drugs are dorks

  • Kind of hard to take this serious

  • This ad helped me, even though i didnt say no at first, it helped me to learn to say no. Wish they still had good anti-drug ads on tv for kids, especially in this 'drugs are the norm' age.

  • i did drugs in school and they helped my grades(marijuana)

  • I was always told that the performer is Charlie Peacock, a contemporary Christian singer who went on to produce bands like Switchfoot. Can anyone confirm that is him? Hard to tell because he has a hat on.

  • I remember this one on Saturday mornings. They had a longer version and a short version. I thought it was cool how the girl was a skater.

    I'm glad I found this psa--thanks!

Now if I could only find the one with the dummy that says, "Say nope to dope and uggh to drugs."

  • evry1 in tht video looks like they're on drugs already! lol XD

  • its in 1988

  • and lots of people did drugs then, but they had a good stash i go for some lsd and shrooms and that big bag of weed....

  • Being an original is good! being High is even better.

  • This one is stupid

  • i want that trash can lid!!!

  • Were can i get a mp3 of this song?

  • So, here's something that may amuse many people. I was 5-6 when this aired and I was sure that all the drugs on the trash can lid were actually all pieces of one of those awesome table top billiards sets. Now that I watch, I realize I was extremely naive. hahaha

  • This one was on ALL the time.

Even if peer pressure was as big of a deal as they made it out to be (which it wasn't/isn't), who would think to themselves "Hmmm... I can either make Jamal like me by doing drugs, or I can make a rich white person like Nancy Reagan like me by not doin drugs... I'm going to say NO!"

It's a shame there wasn't an ad that said "drugs are awesome. Try them for a while, but learn when you're getting out of control, so you'll know when to stop."

    Is that so hard?

  • Yes...

  • This commercial is totally radical dude. I mean, its like, so tubular! And drugs are bogus.

(gosh I've almost forgotten how to speak 80'ese!)

  • Hahaha...this has to be my top favorite psa of the 80s. I still hum this tune to this day. LOL

  • BE AN ORIGINAL AND DO EXACTLY WHAT THEY TELL YOU TO ON TV! Yay.

  • OMG! I've been looking for this commerical for YEARS! I remember when this was on...Holy S***! What a mind F***! :D

  • so if i would of jus said no, n not of smoke that joint. i would of been dancing wit all those people. n id would kno who that is singing. . . ? (the dealer looks like a cop, i wouldnt trust em)

im glad i did smoke then cuz i could never fit in wit all those cool kids.

never realy been a follower ether.

ima blaze my own trail. yeeeaaaa!!!!!

  • Right to say NO, and right to say YES.

  • These commercials are why I do drugs

  • @McNugget06 true that, i dont wanna be the fucking losers who sing gay 80's songs instead of doing drugs

  • @McNugget06 LMFAOROFL XD

  • @McNugget06 amennn

  • I was never as cool as these kids. :<

  • The Nostalgic Critic had this PSA as one of his Top-11 best PSAs from the 80s.

  • Hahaha!! I've had this song stuck in my head for the past 20 years.. this and the Kris Kross Sprite Commercial. I could have sworn this song was faster though. So weird watching it again after all this time!

  • 0:27 Who knew saying no to drugs made you telekinetic?

  • Wow, i want the force now lol gr8 psa

  • I love his no at 0:19

  • O god this song has been stuck in my head for years now!1988...Can anyone post the lyrics..

  • I loved this one too. Oh now you asked for it. Here are the tubular lyrics (which I remembered and can sing along flawlessly):

Gettin into drugs & bein high is a stupid thing to do. For bein in control and sayin no is not the easiest thing to do.

    BE AN ORIGINAL!!!

And take a stand, you're free to say no.

Dont let a friend push you into takin drugs. You've got a ri-ie-ie-ie-ight to say NO! NO! Right to say no!

Only in the 80s could such lameness rock.

  • This is a pretty catchy ad with a theme song that stays in your head forever.

I found it amusing how when the entire crowd of dancers said "Just say no!" while pointing towards the drug dealers how the latter party went flying backwards into a bunch of boxes!

I can imagine that the drug dealers were like "What the f***'s going on?!" when being thrown backwards.

While the ad's kind lame by today's standards, it was meant to appeal to kids. Whether or not it succeeded is up to you.

  • those people must take alot of drugs to get over this fuck up of a propaganda commercial

  • I remembered this PSA (public service announcement) about saying "No!" to drugs, back when I was 7 years old.

  • wow, I so remeber this, this commercial was played all the time. totally rad dude!

  • Awesome!

  • People should have the right to say no, but the right to say yes too, because everyone should have the right to make educated choices about their own health.

  • @Marylandmurder therefor all drugs should be legal because its our right to have that decision withouth being a criminal. Cmon if heroin were legal would you buy it. I know i wouldnt because im not a fucking retard but there are people out there that will rob banks just to get a hit. why not stop the criminals?

  • @127miles I agree. All drugs should be legal. Robbing banks is already criminal, whatever the reason.

  • No! emmm well just weed for a couple of month then back to normal

  • And the right to say yes?

  • damn thanks for uploading this.

remember seeing it on ABC saturday morning

  • i remember this! is that a chick skating?

  • na, thats a dude with a wicked cool perm.

  • Hahah, wow, I remember this from my childhood

  • Thank god the 80's are over.

though i hear the style is making a comeback

  • AHAHAHAHAHAH!

  • That guy singing in this P.S.A. looks so familiar.

  • christ, is it any wonder just say no didnt work?

  • soooo convenient - that dealer had everything! man i gotta go to one dude to get e and then fart around with a bunch of unreliable stoners to get weed

  • whats lame is that no one seems to care anymore and more and more kids are getting hooked on drugs, getting knocked up earlier, and generally ruining their lives.... sad.

  • this psa is lame

  • Wow... I haven't thought about this thing in about 20 years.

  • Lucky, I have this freaking song in my head all the goddamn time :( It's terrible, but thank god for YouTube, otherwise, I'd go insane.

  • OMG YAH-EE YA-HEE YAH-EE just say no. its 88 all over again lol!

  • why was everything in the 80s so foggy? its rlly fricking annoying

  • a lot of those commercials are taken from old videotapes that have been watched over and over again so the quality has degraded significantly

  • it's all the smoke

everyone in that video was high

that's why they're dressed like that

  • I don't do drugs because of this ad, and because I can find a good score.

  • As soon as it started playing I could remember the song! Wow...I'm old.

  • This brings me back to those Saturday mornings watching ABC.

  • This was good. :)

  • Hahaha YES I remember this video! Although I was only 7 years old at the time, this definitely takes me back.

However, I will say that as I reflect on my childhood, it truly was silly for my parents/teachers/whatever to constantly berate and badger me not to take drugs when I WAS A LITTLE KID AND I DIDN'T FUCKING KNOW WHAT DRUGS WERE!! They spent all damn day telling me not to drink or smoke and all I truly cared about was playing video games and collecting ninja turtles, lol.

  • that looked more like a commercial for madma or meth than anything else.

  • i like eggs

  • i always really enjoyed the way the drugs would glow green. and the guy in the ticket booth and the people thown into the boxes. i think the commecercials had a reverse effect

  • I remember a lot of these bloody commercials.

  • I wanna get high after watching this

  • I used to watch this when I was 10;I didn't know any english at all when this hit the tube. However, the beat still stuck to me to this day--even after all these damn years. So whatever you're smoking, pass it over, brother--I get to hit the bong first. After watching this, I wanna get high!!

  • instead of drug free how about drug informed

instead of "just say no" how bout thinking for yourself

  • I remember this... it was on saturday mornings, so it was totally unavoidable.

  • if i listen to the commercial i can't be origanl

  • And if you don't listen, you'll be following everyone else.

  • Nostalgia Critic. lol

  • They played this every commercial break all day Saturday and from 3 tho 5:30 on week-days.

  • Just say no lol

  • The only time i ever actually seen anyone bust out in song, they were on a buncha drugs

  • Wow I kinda remember this.

  • Ironically, the only way you can enjoy this ad is to do drugs and watch it.

  • Say no to iron table skateboard.

  • ok this commercial convinced me not to do any more drugs.. thank you

  • The "guy" who performed this song was later busted (1987 or 88) for drug possession. Hypocrite.

  • Most of the people involved in (Did the earth move for you) Nancy Reagan's, "just say no" campaign were closet drug users and, yes, hypocrites.

  • the just wrah-wrah-wrah-wrong. sellout

  • a lot of thought went into this video, i'm sure it helped a lot of people..

  • I remember this PSA very well. Most of the time I saw the shorter PSA of this. Who was the singer in this PSA? He sounds and looks familiar.

  • Omg, I looked up "Just Say No" just for the last 5 seconds of this PSA. lol. Thanks!!! This brings me back.

  • Great now this song is back in my head for thew next twenty years...

  • [sings] "Simply irresistible"!

    Oops, wrong song.

  • I lol'd.

  • The people that made this video were on drugs.

  • This video rox my sox. So much better than the anti-drug commercials we have today... I'm gonna learn this dance and then dance at the next person that offers me drugs. Hahaha.

  • Parts of this song had been running through my head for like 10 years. I'm so happy I found this!

  • Drug dealers are no match for my psychic powers!

  • Smoke crack and worship Satan!

  • WTF Who turns down free drugs is that kid crazy.

  • I'm still REALLY loving this vid!
