  • Anyone who calls this sloppy doesn't understand live jazz fusion and funk back in the day.

  • lets not forget the incredible lenny white on drums. he doesn't show off on this clip but he plays what the song needs and he is masterful! and yes chaka is just....my goodness!

  • My son is a bass player and Stanley has always been his idol and this is why. Chaka, I have always loved her voice and she is still hot.

  • what song is this?

  • I agree with lpn: Stanly Clarke and Chaka Kahn deserve a place in the Hall for all their contributions that have received extraordinary fan appreciation. This piece seems like they all were simply having fun, with a fair amount of improvisation, nothing tight, just enjoying the funk of it all, at a time when Chaka was at her vocal, peak, perhaps, and as fine as she wanted to be.

  • Chaka is beautiful!

  • Why isn't Stanley Clark in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame/ What he did for the bass has influenced everyone in rock, jazz and music in general. For that matter why hasn't Chaka Khan made it. this women has won 10 or 12 Grammys and can do anything from R&B, Funk, rock and jazz/

  • @towergrove100

  • jazz2future..................

understanding the time... belongs to understanding the music... and you my friend...

    have none of this...

i don't know how old you are... but thees guys... have educated generations of musicians... most probably all of those you like... even concerts like this...

again... they were the first with that stuff...

    your ignorance hurts....

  • @stewiewonderful i agree, the three of them rule. lady gaga like some of the others are bad imitations, these folks set the standard.

  • jazz2future..................

just one question.... do you know anyone... at the time this concert was recorded...

who had done it anything bear to them............??

all those guys you're praising grew up and learned from them playing like this... there you said it.... because they are influential....

  • his funky efforts were sloppy 1 chord extended jazz space odysseys...or TERRIBLE covers of cheesy pop songs........his only success was putting the producing into the hands of a master of the artform MARCUS MILLER.....check out his band...the stuff kills even more with patches on trumpet!!..........hey give Chaka some autotune and a makeover and she could sound like lady gaga in this video!!!! i give this video a 5............outta 10 and thats being generous

  • MMMM! Gordibuena!

  • I love Chaka!!! But baby girl was good and high! LOL!

  • yeah, musicians are like every body else..sometimes they just wanna have FUN!!

  • Cheesy but funky song. Herbie Hancock's face is priceless when he's soloing. He looks so damn happy

  • he looks like he's about to take a dump!

  • ma big fine hula gal. mahalo

  • at 1:53 when she shakes her 'mane in progress', dude, I almost died! can't MESS WIT CHAKA!

  • Hey, I dont wanna start no arguement, or one of them long, drawn out, over the top discusssions, but I would like to say that back in the 1970s, women shaped like THAT, were what ALL the guys were going after. Chaka had the FIRE shape through the 70s and 80s.

  • I hear that - gorgeous shape

  • Damn, she was fly

  • imagine if all of these guys were able to perform with left eye? That would be bomb! If thats up your ally check out Eye Legacy By Left Eye its HOT!!!!

  • no...no

  • yeth...yeth!!!

  • Chaka did that. Not even trying to be a diva or nothin. Just jamming all unreheared. Thats what funk is supposed to be. Not all rehearsed and formatted. You go Chaka! This my favorite video of her.

  • that right there is 'Sex Machine' Chaka

  • These bland, young girls today only wish they could do a fraction of what Chaka was doing back then.

  • That is Lenny White on drums, too !

  • 1:28-1:48 The funiest Funkiest just brilliantly smooth funkerlative shit ever. Check Stanleys' facial expressions 1:37.

Gets a bit boring and whats with the crazy ring of pixels (those 80's japs!) But I love this vid despite all its obvious flaws, a true funky jam.

  • must have sounded better live, i got a little bored with it, stanley was disappointing, never heard him try to funk b4

  • It may of sounded a little rough around the edges because it was a jam. Jams generally are.

  • funky men in tha house 5 stars!!!

  • nice groove!!!!! chaka had some big tits

  • mostly lard, but yes

  • Forget al the stigmatic crap. We're all human beings and this clip is GREAT!!!

  • black people that are not from Africa are BLACK. ignorant white people only call them "African American," because they don't know any black people.

pisses me off just as much as when people refer to my people as Spanish. we're not european, we're from LATIN AMERICA. LATINO.

to be real, negro isn't even a derogatory term. have you heard of the united NEGRO college fund? negro means black, negro doesn't mean nigger. get your facts straight before you correct others

  • How would u know if negro isnt a derogatory term?...Ur not BLACK! In spanish negro means black. If u educated urself with some Black history which is a part of American history, u would know that its the term the word is used in that makes it offensive...ESPECIALLY coming from someone that isnt black. Oh and FYI, The united NEGRO college fund was created by black people for black people in 1972 when the term "negro" wasnt offensive. So next time get some facts b4 u call urself droppin knowledge

  • two virtuosos one diva... what else do you need... oh yeah so improv funk,,, that works too

  • Dudes, what a groove...Or you have it or not...These guys simply ROCK!!!!

  • i cud see where mark king got his licks from..

  • I am a big fan of all three artists featured here, and I must say, this performance is just NOT GOOD !!! Chaka is out of tune on quite a few bits and it all feels like a rather dull and not very motivated jam-session.

  • anyway, its nice to see her in this "shirt" and havin fun in japan. I also wanna say that any black people who are aggressive against european "racists" should inform themselves bef. smashing their faces. "Negro" was i.e. officially used in western germany until maybe 1985 and is still used by mio former east germans cos they dont know it better.

  • In the US it might be meant offending, but we dont have a racial war like in the us, please ask Chaka what she thinks about Europe if you dont believe me. She would not sing a single tone over here if she felt bad or offended.

  • I guess she was too sexy for her shirt! I hope that's not Lenny White. It would be a tragic waste of time for him to play in a dull setting like this. For that matter, I don't blame Herbie for laughing his ass off the whole time...this is a complete joke.

  • This is a quintessential Chaka performance. This is how she grooved back in the '70's. No one was dressing or singing like this back then. She was and is a trailblazer. She belongs in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

  • In her book she said her mother made alot of her outfits, up into the 80's. THIS was one of her best, along with her 'leather and feathers' stuff.

  • Five Stars and more if I can !

  • chaka fine she always had that thick sexy shape to her even 2day

  • HELLS YEA!

  • One of Steve Wonder's best tunes ;)

  • looks like Stanley is playing his tenor bass but he had the A string tuned to F#. At 00:20 he tuned it back up to A. thats Lenny White on the drums. Looks like 1983

  • you a dumb ass white boy and this is coming from a white woman. I bet, you foolish ignoramus, discriminate against females as well, FOOL.

  • how did you draw this conclusion? and why would you use the trials of african americans to try and whore some attention to yours feminist crusade? i have nothing agianst any blacks, whites, men or woman but if you think its okay to be feminist to rake down on random men, then you can call me masculanist. crazy lady.

  • The word negro is not used anymore, and that is not STEVE WONDER!

  • im sure its steve because he got the dark glasses and also he plays like steve. nobody ever plays like steve, i hav e some album with him i know.i dont know who the negress is but i like it.

  • That is not STEVIE WONDER IT IS HERBIE HANCOCK!

  • See ignorant and offensive comments like that really make you look stupid! You have no knowledge of the performers nor the instruments. That is not Stevie Wonder, it is Herbie Hancock! He is not wearing dark glasses, but u may want to look into getting some bifocals! And that's not a piano, it's a synthesizer Einstein! You probably think the drummer is Max Roach!!! FYI, yes this is written by a BLACK person!! Choose ur words wisely. Dont ever refer to us as "negro" or "negress!"

  • im sorry for offending! its because i spoke to some rappers on here and they got angry and INSIST i call them "negro"(SORRY!)so now im confused and sad and i will call you black from now. who can i know who to listen to?also i was sure this is steve, but maybe you are right, maybe its someone else. i know its not max roach because wikapedia he died last year and the date here says "2008"

  • Ok, I dont think you get it. When I mentioned Max Roach, I was being sarcastic! No offense, but your not the sharpest tool in the shed. So do me a favor and be politically correct by addressing any black people as "African American" ok? It'll save urself alot of grief and probably a beat down if the wrong person hears u call someone a negro in public. Use ur better jugdement, and KNOW there is no black person that wants to be called Negro.Thats like a white person wanting to be called "cracker"

  • okay i will take your advise, believe it. but its true what i said, some people insist on the other, so it seems like you didnt read what i said and you also arent a very sharp lady then. also, first you say 'black', now its 'african armerican' i think its imposible to know what you want next minut.how can i tell what country a person comes from by the look -how can i tell if the person is amrican??

  • People dont insist on being called negro. Did it ever occur to u that the person u were talking to wasnt black at all?! Its the internet! I read ur statements well and I dont know what part of the planet u live on that u dont know the "politically" correct term for blacks, is "African American." U seem really confused and lost. Next time just pay attention to the heading of the video, it tells u the names of the artists so u wont have to guess and say its Stevie Wonder on piano.

  • okay lady, i get it to be correct from now on. i will pay much attention. im not confused, okay but my question was= how can i know its an american black and not a german black? then why should i say african armerican if its german or italian?they would also be ofended if didnt say "african german"- i almost need a passport to know! "hervie hancock" sound like he is a english gentlemen so i thougt maybe its the name of the tune? alright, we can get along now i think. thank you for correcting me

  • hey all, calm down. it's obvious that english is not komiske's first language -- his profile says he's from denmark. it's easy to be socially tone-deaf by accident when you're translating from your native language. for example if you look up "black" in the english-french dictionary you would get "negre." hopefully in our lifetimes "negro" and "negress" will stop appearing in the danish-english dictionary!!
