@IamAmazinghehe: as an overall message, it was a good album. The sound wasn't bad and I didn't dislike a single song it. To someone who's new to Rise, it's an easy intro. But to fans that have heard/known them since the older stuff ('01-'06) that this is baby stuff compared to what the band is truly capable of. I blame signing to a major label but a bigger label means more people hearing the message and what they have to say in their songs. This song gives you a sense of where their roots are.
Most of you haven't heard nearly as much rap as I've heard. About 70 percent of the rodios stations have either rap or hip-hop. One station has to play every other genres than rap and hip-hop. Then there's another station that plays '70's music. Trust none of you know the shit they play here.
@AEgamesFtw if you havnt heard at least one hip hop song you really need to get out of your moms basement. and tell me how he is an idiot for stating an opinion?
can someone please explain who they are talking to? I'm not sure if they are talking to other people who have gone astray, or if they are talking to god because they feel like he is not here. In the beginning of the song i saw a reference to the crown of thorns that jesus wore, so i am unsure what their motive of the song is.
@dinkydodgem93: I do believe that comment just made my day because I 110% agree. In my opinion, Rise Against is an example of truly great modern punk music. Correction: when God created punk, this is what he had in mind.
@Trololobotomizer it's "toe the line"... "toe" as in feel out the line with your toe to see where it is... it's a metaphor saying "we were on the same side" or "we agreed"... why you trolls gots to be trolls??
@Trololobotomizer k you don't have to be an ass about it, i understand your point without your trolling, and idc too much about your attempting on trolling me... it's "toe the line"... gety over it
@justice5150studios: When I hear other screamers, it's just noise to me, but when Tim does it, it's so....different. You can not only hear but actually *feel* the emotion from what he's saying, and in a way, it's absolutely beautiful because there's melody to it. Another thing is that Tim's scream voice sounds natural, not forced, like this is what his voice is used to doing. There are so many things that set Rise Against apart from other bands, and I think this is on of them. RA FOREVER! <3
I love the tone of Tim's voice in this song. Somehow it's different, and in a weird way it's vulnerable, especially in the chorus. Still a little bit soft compared to the older stuff, but still amazing just cause it's Rise Against. =P
i love how Rise Against doesn't just sing about girls when it comes to personal subjects. Rise Against is probably my musical Idol, that or the seatbelts. Real Folk Blues is awesome!
this band is the best fucking band in the world and im going to go and see them y because there coming to florida ssssssssssssoooooooooooooooooooooooo HELL YEA
@willroggero yo srry if i sound like a dick im just saying people need to listen to the fucking music iits there for a reason not to sit there and got wtf does it mean
@emokid24242 Meaning is there for a reason. The passion in punk is as centric as the music itself. The passion and the messages of songs drive the music. Punk is about feeling and purpose.
@themightychickens FUCK YES! I love torches. I wish tims voice had that bite to it. Like in RPM, but I guess everyones voice changes. Look at Alx rose from Guns N Roses:/
Ha, I'm not at all religious I go to church every 2-3 months apart. Sometimes not at all. For me it's like, "Hey susie, have you seen Grandmother Meggie? Um, she died like two months ago, you weren't invitied because remember you called her an old bat at the breakfast."
Maybe because I was just watching a show about it, but the lyrics remind me of Special Forces. The first two stanzas being about marching/sailing away, midnight sun and covered tracks being about the stealth they use. Whereabouts unknown being the secrecy of where their missions are. I see your face in the sights, I hesitate being describing the dilemma of shooting someone, and long for the moment our silence is broken expresses how much they want to tell their families what happened but cant.
at the very start of the song...just after the intro, said "tainted crown of thorns". are they talking about christ?....and second question....TMC, can you give me a phrase regarding this song's message thanks!!
@Shikamaru381 I'd like to take back my previous statement about this not being about Chris, because I believe it might be.
Yes, the tainted crown of thorns refers to Jesus, but don't take it literally. "Sworn to a tainted crown of thorns." I believe he means that whoever the song is about has sworn to his purpose as if it was religious, since religious people often tend to be impossible to convert to another religion --- impossible to convert to another path.
It might also have something to do with the band Last of the Believers, which Chris went to form after he left Rise Against. (He's now in a band called Nations Afire, and they're quite good to be honest)
I have put a link in the comment to a site which has many interpretations of the song, you should take a look there.
To go off of TMC's comment, you can't just say what a song is about and have it be true. Ever heard that one song? You know, "Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you.." That one. Yeah, it's about the war in Iraq. Want to know why? It's because I said so my good sir.
I have two computer classes in a row and nothing to do in either of them so I've been trolling your videos since the semester start. Hope you don't mind
@TheFlarbar I think song writers, Tim in this case, write a song with one meaning. They don't write songs and say well it can be about this, or this, or this. People interpret it differently, but it is usually incorrect.
Here's my interpretation of the song: Group A and Group B were once friends, or @ least could understand each other. Then Group A did something that confused & scared Group B. Group B was so frightened that they began to hate Group A & tried to destroy it for a long time. Now Group B is realizing why Group A did what it did. They're trying to make amends for what they did.
@jmelbo17 It's an easy conclusion to draw, but I somehow doubt it really is about Chris. Chris chose to leave because of the exhaustion from touring, not because there were any internal fights, as the lyrics might suggest.
@themightychickens Well yeah, but I guess i was leaning towards the song meaning that they miss him and they wish he would come back. Not that they were fighting or anything. I don't know. I guess it's just the universal thought that it might have something to do with Chris. So many questions I have for Tim
ugh nobody can see that this is not ONLY a great band with great music....they have MEANING...theyre music isnt just to be "rocked out" too..they have passion and..meaning.
Well, except the all the metalheads and pop girls that idolize these guys, you're wrong. Among every fan of them that has got a bit more brains than a 15 year old, they love them because of the meaning of their music.
