@ajaxrules1975 There are at least five snakes that live in my pond and probably more than five snapping turtles. I finally have a couple of snapping turtles that will come to eat when I throw in some hotdogs or other food. If I make any sudden moves though they are outta there! My red-earred sliders aren't so afraid.

awesome! we have a pond on my wifes dads land....dont think many fish are in there these days tho..every time someone fishes there all they catch is the snapping turtles lol but here in va we have lots of copperheads and rattlers just the other day we killed a poisonous snake that we have never seen before her grandpa said it was a poisonous water snake...but not a moccasin

@bwfootball30 nope northern water snake. water moccasins or cotton mouths are fat snakes with stripes they are a member of the viper family. I only know this because it is a constant debate here in southern New England.

Looks like a northern water snake, from the pattern. Highly aggressive snake with anticoagulant in the saliva (your blood wont clot for a while)

I don't kill them... They are as much a part of my pond as are the fish, turtles and frogs. They never bother me... well, except if I fish then I always get at least one come begging for a fish. Once I give them a fish they go away.

Usually ignorance. I get comment all the time about Hotdog being a Copperhead which of course he isn't... Even yesterday a guest at my pond freaked when he saw one of my beauties and screamed, "Copperhead". Lot of snakes get killed because of misidentification.

His name is Hotdog. I just call them water snakes but like RIPCortez27 said in a comment he's actually a Northern Water snake. I leave them alone and don't pick them up. I'm not afraid to handle them I just don't want to worry them.

Of course not. I have several in my pond and if they see me fishing they will come begging for food. I catch them a little bluegill and hand it to them without a problem. Then I can fish without looking down at a sad little hungry snake face looking up at me.

my water turtles will eat fish food and apples or whatever else i put in their tank. their pigs really. its amazing how you think an animal doesnt eat something then you throw it in there and it gobbles it up.

You'd be surprised how fast the fish in a pond can get wise to a fisherman - especially if the water is the least bit clear. There can be a jillion fish down there waving their little fins and laughing like crazy at you when you throw something in with a hook on it. They are a lot smarter than we give them credit for! I have fish that know the difference between a quarter size piece of biscuit and pancake before it hits the water.
