I want to order this on DVD since I missed part 1 and 2. Does anyone know the pbs phone number for ordering DVDs? I can't find the phone number anywhere on the website.
@mmslipknot444 No evilution is not real those where either monkey bones/,a lie or just people with funny bones. Hey mabey they became deformed over time. But one thing is for sure. GOD MADE AND OWND YOUR ASS.
This is a very human question to ask. Carl Sagan calls this the anthrocentric argument.
You must comprehend that time itself has it's origins with the 'Big Bang', therefore, to ask "what came before time/matter" is to infer a "Timeline" to time itself. Such a line of questioning is deeply bizarre.
Nonetheless, if one were to take your questions seriously, one could only conclude that they are indeed questions. Do they have or require an answer? No.
Evolution is about genetic change over generations. It's nothing to do with the origins of the universe, nor the origin of life, nor where the elements came from. Different fields of science investigate those subjects, but evolution is just about the history of life on earth.
It's simple really, and the evidence for it is amazingly strong and uncontroversial. Of course there are many questions in science that are still to be resolved, but that life on earth has changed over time is undeniable.
Yeah, that bugged me too. The whole "we evolved FROM so and so animal" is always like nails on a chalkboard because it contributes to the general public's false beliefs about evolution. All living animals on the planet are COUSINS. You did not evolve from your first cousin, but you and your first cousin share grandparents.
This is a bit misleading. We didn't get "to this" (are present from), "from that" (chimpanzees). I hope this is not indicative of the scientific accuracy of this program.
Just chimpanzees as representatives of apes, not meant to imply that we have descended from chimps. Although the fact that we are still apes has not been layed out clearly in this preview...
Disagree. Most Christians are comfortable with an old Earth. Only the sects that believe that the Bible is literally inerrant believe in the young age of earth. Most Catholics, CoE, and other liberal protestant sects are cool with evolution.
humans are not that smart, because most of us are trying the hardest to destroy our own species, to destroy the forests, the wild animals, and they call that smart? I don't think so. hopefully we can use more our conscience a little bit more and take protect every living thing in our planet. that will be smart.
Yeah, the fact that we've mapped the human genome, landed on the moon, and eradicated smallpox from the earth shouldn't be taken into account. All animals can do those things.
you shouldn't confuse operational science with historical science.
Historical (origins) science involves interpreting evidence from the past and includes the models of evolution and special creation. Recognizing that everyone has presuppositions that shape the way they interpret the evidence is an important step in realizing that historical science is not equal to operational science.
I suppose then it's perfectly understandable that as a culture some of us connect at the level of a concept - where our values are our cultural diversity.
"we are the smartest most adaptable animal!"....were not animals we're human beings...those who want to be called animals so be it..but I am not an animal
Yes you are. Human beings are a species of animal. It doesn't have to be a bad thing unless you choose to see it that way. Denying it altogether just makes you look stupid.
I guess if you go into the details, we'd be the first to not be classified as "animals", but if you divide living creatures into plants and animals, we'd definitely be in the animal section. That doesn't mean we're simple-minded, wild creatures that act on instinct, or cells just resemble other animals more. :P
It's been interesting to watch man go from being a few thousand years old and descended from Neanderthal to being 4 million and just cousins.
Why do they keep assuming there was an abrupt leap from apes? Seems like they keep trying to squeeze man into this tight time line and keep reluctantly adding a million years because if they add too many it blows the ape theory. I'd like to see them ready to think outside their self imposed boxes.
who said we got from this to that? evolution is bullshit ..
MultiLuciferian 3 months ago
@MultiLuciferian Google Project Steve NCSE to see that virtually all scientists know that we evolved from non-humans. The evidence is overwhelming.
No magical, invisible sky wizard involved.

Well said, smoking bishop. This is an irritating tendency in science reporting, especially about anthropology.

Looks interesting, although the scientific inaccuracies in this preview made me cringe.
1)Humans did not evolve from chimpanzees, we merely share a common ancestor.
2)Humans ARE a species of ape.
