This is a very human question to ask. Carl Sagan calls this the anthrocentric argument.

You must comprehend that time itself has it's origins with the 'Big Bang', therefore, to ask "what came before time/matter" is to infer a "Timeline" to time itself. Such a line of questioning is deeply bizarre.

Nonetheless, if one were to take your questions seriously, one could only conclude that they are indeed questions. Do they have or require an answer? No.

Evolution is about genetic change over generations. It's nothing to do with the origins of the universe, nor the origin of life, nor where the elements came from. Different fields of science investigate those subjects, but evolution is just about the history of life on earth.

It's simple really, and the evidence for it is amazingly strong and uncontroversial. Of course there are many questions in science that are still to be resolved, but that life on earth has changed over time is undeniable.

Looks interesting, although the scientific inaccuracies in this preview made me cringe.

1)Humans did not evolve from chimpanzees, we merely share a common ancestor.

2)Humans ARE a species of ape.

Yeah, that bugged me too. The whole "we evolved FROM so and so animal" is always like nails on a chalkboard because it contributes to the general public's false beliefs about evolution. All living animals on the planet are COUSINS. You did not evolve from your first cousin, but you and your first cousin share grandparents.

Disagree. Most Christians are comfortable with an old Earth. Only the sects that believe that the Bible is literally inerrant believe in the young age of earth. Most Catholics, CoE, and other liberal protestant sects are cool with evolution.

you shouldn't confuse operational science with historical science.

Historical (origins) science involves interpreting evidence from the past and includes the models of evolution and special creation. Recognizing that everyone has presuppositions that shape the way they interpret the evidence is an important step in realizing that historical science is not equal to operational science.

I guess if you go into the details, we'd be the first to not be classified as "animals", but if you divide living creatures into plants and animals, we'd definitely be in the animal section. It's been interesting to watch man go from being a few thousand years old and descended from Neanderthal to being 4 million and just cousins.

Why do they keep assuming there was an abrupt leap from apes? Seems like they keep trying to squeeze man into this tight time line and keep reluctantly adding a million years because if they add too many it blows the ape theory. I'd like to see them ready to think outside their self imposed boxes.
