  • Borrowing musicians work is common practice today among hip-hop is called retro and kanye west himself is well known for using samples in his music. There was also a big rage about using rock and grundge with hip-hop to make a new "Unison" sound for mainstream top 40 bullshit. If anything its a compliment to older artists musicianship. BITCH! Oh and your'e gay... sorry

  • the sound is great in this! I think the video converter might have helped but it sets the mode perfectly for the song.

  • The comment below is in response to JCMarra

  • Hey Smarties in America... This song is a Calypso, I ought to know, I'm from Trinidad. It's even better than most of Harry Belafonte's crap!! The only thing is this sort of music belongs to the 1920's

  • this song is a blatant ripoff of Duke of Iron's "Man is an Easy Fish to Catch"

  • The sound quality sucks.

  • this is great. but if you really want to see how it's done check out the Cherry Poppin' Daddys. Zoot Suit Riot Rocks!

  • i love them although they've changed

  • i love this song its my theme song 100/100 and faved

  • The guy dancing with the shackles chained to the ball looks like Rick Astley...

  • you know the rules and so do I.

  • I agree

  • I always saw this band as a horrific blip on the screen of music. There were so many other more deserving bands in swing revival happy Chapel Hill in the 1990s, especially The Gregg Gelb Swing Band, grandaddy of the whole movement, filled to the brim with serious players, who did it right, and never got credit for influencing the rest, not these Zippers who routinely admitted they could barely play their instruments. The music business is a funny thing.

  • No ability to play their instruments dodn't stop the Sex Pistols from making it either. The masses don't care about ability. They want something interesting to look at and a hook. Still though, this is a great tune.

  • they barely could play their instruments? The saxophone and trumpet in this song sound the best to me.

  • Doesn't mean they played them. Everyone thought the Monkees played their own instruments too--until I met the guy who dubbed the guitar parts (Ken Bloom).

  • They do play their own instruments; This is a music video so it doesn't look like it.

I've seen them live. The sound the exact same if not better.

  • Faux musicians should be shot. To paraphrase Willa Cather, the music business doesn't discourage ENOUGH self-styled "musicians."

  • I wonder how you'd properly define that. Are you talking about obvious style borrowing? If so, the only thing that separates these guys from eric clapton or led zeppelin is the use of irony. But if faux musicianship is bad, I guess Serge Gainsbourg, Elvis, David Bowie, and Beck should have never been allowed to utter a note. Yes, we'd definitely have better music around the world if all white people were allowed to play was classical music and country. Down with the exchange of ideas!

  • Love this band! Hey, was this song in the show Beetlejuice??

  • Swing revival

  • I LOVE this song, it makes me smile xD

  • Cara, muito bom! Lembrei dessa musica no Panico de hoje, claassica!

Man, here in Brazil this song just played for short time in MTV Brazil, but was enough to stay in my mind since then.

  • I always liked Squirrel Nut Zippers, they're like what would happen if David Lynch and Danny Elfman got together to write music!

  • Great fucking tune!!!

  • totally inspired song. So different, so catchy. Always loved it!

  • swing

  • this song owns your ass

  • This song is in my ass.

  • Coupled with your head that's hard to believe.

  • You have it out of context.

"this song owns your ass" - x7dOGSPEED

I could have said... "This song doesn't just own my ass, it is in my ass, sodomizing me and I am enjoying it." -

  • very fine trance/swing!!!!!!

  • Trance? Srsly?

  • i know the bass player of the band his 13 year old son goes to my bourding school.

  • I am a gymnast and we are thinking of this for my floor music. It sounds really cool instrumental if you had heard it befor. The only negative thing is that the video isnt that great allthough funny

  • First I heard Bluekilla version, many years ago, and now I don't know which one I like more...

  • I remember first hearing this song about halfway through the first episode of Dead Like Me and thinking - "Jesus, what the fuck was that?"

    Amazing song, amazing band.

  • Jimbo is probably one of the best singers ever.

  • this was when mtv was god

  • great tune, making good fun of the worst idea ever thunk

  • I like the girl I hope she isnt a tranny

  • The funniest thing I read was a guy said he played this for his girlfriend and then they broke up he was so happy she finally got the point . I have never laughed harder.

  • of course is really funny hahaha hilarious poor grl tho hehe

  • I know that is terriable but so funny. I'm sorry but everybody else laughs at others demise's too. When someone falls or trips in front of a large group. We don't sit there and say Oh I'm sorry no We laugh. They even laugh at themselves too!

  • Im sorry now that I apoligize to people for them falling over coz of me its not funny.

It never is most people who laugh at those people are arses and haters who just laugh coz their friends are around

  • dead man on campus

  • Yeah, they look very glamorous. :)

  • Wow, I haven't seen this vid in years! I remember it because I remember the song. Actually... I take that back because its the other way around lol!

  • Wow, at times the singer sounds a lot like Cab Calloway.

  • swing me

  • The video quality of this video sucks royally. Can somebody put a decent copy back on youtube? Sheesh. Stupid assholes at youtube who keep removing good videos.

  • Every time I see the 120 minutes Logo, I start to reminisce and get nostalgic

  • this is a great song i remember the song and the video quite well from when i was a kid

and my friend anthony is a dried up stinky dick liker i hope something bad happens to him real soon

  • I always love a video where the song's still rocking out and MTV is rolling the "ending" credit (title of song, band, etc.). The SNZ's take care of it. Swing!

  • great music just like in the 50's

  • Please come back 120 Minutes!

  • yeah man, that show was good.

  • Just Try driving at the speed limit when you hear this song, the D and the A and the M and the speed get's faster.......... and faster....get a ticket on the other side!!!!!!

  • Somewhat odd, but pretty sick nonetheless

  • they're more of a ska wing jazz sound, i love it.

  • aaaahhh yes Hell...

    Looking forward to it actually.

  • great percussionist. sax player. i think ill give up rock and roll, and just jazz it up, this rules

  • i must say, this is absolutely brilliant. these guys are great .

  • Careful, they took my copy of the video down yesterday :(

  • I know and I'm pissed. When will you get it back up? Your copy had good video quality, this one sucks.

  • Who took your copy of the video down?

  • This looks EXACTLY like early Split Enz, minus the horn section and female member...

The makeup, the hair, the film style...Look at SE's clips for My Mistake, I Got You and Bold as Brass....Being a big SE fan, this clip always drove me nuts!

  • hella amazing song!!!

  • They're the coolest retro jazz band ever!!! 1 of my favorite bands.

  • They're the coolest retro jazz band ever!!! Love these guys!!!

  • get fitted for a suit of flame!! just great thanks for that

  • this song was number one on MTV for months in 1997

  • I was more into 1990's rock, grunge, alternative, and also 1970's rock and 1980's Hardcore Punk back then. But I did like this song as well! I thought it came out in '96 though.

  • I remember seeing this on MTV in 97 and thinking how awful it was. Getting older and having discovered jazz a few years ago I picked up a used copy of this record and fell in love. The Inevitable, Hot, Perennial Favorites still in regular rotation on my iPod. Surprisingly great stuff in an era of disposable popular music.

  • this songs a keeper.have always loved this one.......even a bit errie,perfect.

  • Love it!!!

  • Do it then and message me with a link to the video.

  • Spelling out "damnation" is about as good as it gets, ever. Love the shot of WPTF, represent Carolina baby! Great stuff.

  • Awesome song...never saw the video..Thanks

  • What a genuinely fun song! As I recall, it was also used on an episode of "Dead Like Me." I have to say, the big band sound rules!

  • they're good. cherry poppin daddies were good too for similar genre.

  • yeah, cherry poppin daddies did have that good song "zoot suit riot"! that one would easily get stuck in anyone's head:)

  • I love this! Sounds like Papa Joe's Puking Trumpets (PJPT).

  • I just keep expecting Crispin Hellion Glover to jump in somewhere...

  • lol that would have been awesome

  • I first heard the SNZ while on hold at GoDaddy as they always play their stuff as the on hold music. I just found someone yesterday that could tell me who it was.

  • Why are you still commenting on these videos? It's just getting annoying. Nobody cares about your opinion, so please just go away. If you don't like the music, then that's just fine. Nobody is making you watch the videos or listen to the music, so why be such a jerk?

  • Ok, and why do you say that? The musicianship is awesome, and they certainly do the style well. Where have they gone wrong? Or, wait, are you just firing insults because you have nothing better to do and are angry?

  • Love "Hell" and the song is awesome, too!

  • It's better than sliced bread.

  • When I first heard this on the radio 101.7 fnx. I thougt it was a commercial. The more I listened.. the more i loved it!! I WENT OUT AND BOUGHT THE CD AND SMOKED SHITLOADS OF POT AND ENJOYED.

  • This video along with radioheads paranoid android got me into music when i was 10 years old, now im a music major. thanks snzs :)

  • i wish i was that good at sax

  • I think dude was pretty wasted. You should want to be more in tune and on beat, but that's part of the charm of Squirrel Nut Zippers. It's just hot and dirty dance music. How can you not dance when you listen to this?

  • I like the girl playing the guitar, what's her name? is she taken?I want her still lol,I remember this video from Mtv like 12 yrs ago, funny video, cool music,lyrics...

  • katharine whalen

    she's certainly something, isn't she

  • Her name's Katherine Whalen and she's married to Jimbo Mathus, a member of the band. Check out the video for SNZ'S "Put A Lid On It" or the "Musical Candy" documentary here on youtube. She's so fantastic! The whole band is!

  • i love this song

    its so fun

  • Somehow this song got me into Haitin Voodoo. Don't know how. But, it does have that Trinidad Calypso type of sound. And I found this off of a 'Halloween Bellydance' page.

  • stop haitin

  • exelent video

  • AWESOME! TOTALLY AWESOME!

  • This video used to scare the crap outta me when I was 14.

  • If this doesn't get your foot a-tappin', the devil already has you.

  • Horrible quality

  • Sorry to inconvenience you, douchebag

  • OK, I click "Reply" and the window opens up, I enter my fascinatingly witty reply, hit 'post comment' and it ends up where?

  • WTF youtube? Spend your billion dollars already?

  • My reply was a bit over the top. My message was intended to convey, " Don't complain if you can't do any better."

  • The video itself is rather jumpy and low-resolution, to make it seem "old-timey". This is all part of the magic of SNZs.

  • I dont mean the proper video, I know that

  • I've been wondering what this song was. I heard it once in a commercial.

This would go well to Reaper.

  • belissimoooo!!

  • Brilliant just beautiful.

  • hahaha this rules

  • Like the song but they should've hooked up with Tim Burton to do their video lol...Would've been cooler w/a Corpse Bride feel.

  • yeah 'cause this genre (big band revival) was so freakin' popular that tim burton would have totally done the video for them. PLEASE!!

its a f**king great song and ppl are bitchin' about the video.

  • Still....I'd do that guy in drag...regardless...

  • What guy in drag?? If you mean Katherine Whaling you need help.
