why does everything alien has to be so vicious? and either extremely beautiful or very ugly?

Alien plants are so advanced ("evolved") that they can enter passing asteroids, survive a crash onto a planet with a different atmosphere. Then they open their mithril shells, turn on their general-purpose motor and use it to dig into the soil. Then they instantly multiply in order to eat everything.

That's to make us humans feel better about what we did to our own planet: "it could be worse".
