In OotP they reduced the whole memory scene to a minimum - but those who don't read the books will at least now know that James Potter bullied Snape at school. Considering the reason Snape protects Harry all these years hangs on his love and his guilt to Lily it would be an disaster if the films did not show this - and an insult to ALL Harry Potter fans.

Although I would have loved to see this scene be done in its entirety, I don't think that Lily being involved was so important AT THIS TIME, because all the memory really showed originally was Lily trying to defend Snape and him calling her a Mudblood...there was no back story at that time, and no reason why Harry would have understood the significance of that comment. Harry didn't know that Snape had history with Lily.

Everyone is forgetting that these books are told from HARRY'S point of view. Harry is not God, he can't see inside everyone's head or know what everyone is thinking. In OOTP, Harry hasn't yet found out the significance of this memory, nor about Snape's previous relationship with Lily.

I was soooo angry when I watched this in the theaters!!! Me and my friends were like, OMG I can't wait to see Snape's Worst Memory! And then - they killed it. Where's Lily? Peter? Remus? Sirius? Every single second matters in the final movie (It will be 3.5 hours plus at least or 2 movies) and now they have to go back and put in this scene in the final movie and waste at least 5 or 6 minutes. Anyone who hasn't read the book will get a wrong idea of the marauders: what we get from here is 1)harry's father is a completely negative character 2)harry's father is some sort of a leader EVEN to his friends (both james and sirius attack snape;they were equally popular;the crowd shouting "james" is ridiculous) 3)remus obviously enjoys the show and goes along with the others(and we all know that he was neutral) and 4) young snape was a pitiable little boy unable to defend himself:)
