Do you remember hearing that sound coming from the "beach huts" dance and drink gigs above some shops near the Beaches of Sydney and the Gold Coast. Smell the peroxide and coconut oil and the sand covered floors. Take me back there now.......in a xm Falcon 3 speed 170 pursuit ahhhhh.......or hear it on a am radio.....
why has no one made a surfing video to this fantastic sound?????? Every time I heard it on the radio, I just saw the wild sea and surfers. Brings back such memories of such a long time ago. Still gives me shivers and it's not cos I'm old now.
I've often wondered whether this Ozzie surf classic may be subtely influenced by a Greek bazuki playing tradition that might have inflenced the lead guitar riffs? Anyone else think they can hear Jim's 'Greekness' coming out in this ?
What a brilliant piece of music !! Is it possible for this music to get even better as the years roll-on - a bit like a vintage wine. The lads may be adding a few grey hairs and wrinkles, but they are still really great musicians. Thanks for posting this masterpiece !!
guys smiling and jamming, thats what surf music is all about! looks like he still has his original Fender from the 60's...thats awesome, this video gave me chills, thank you I enjoyed this very much...
Exactly 45 years ago this month BOMBORA was top of the Australian charts. I rated it instrumental of the year, 1963! And that was some doing as The Shadows were at their peak that same year with DANCE ON, FOOT TAPPER, ATLANTIS and SHINDIG. Also throw in the Chantays' PIPELINE and Lonnie Mack's immortal MEMPHIS. The Atlantics were ahead of their time as far as distortion and sound effects go.
Excellent. I don't know... those guys sound pretty much like that awesome band from the sixties I mean, The Shadows and they are are great. I think Hank Marvin should be glad if he had the chance to listen to them. Thanks for sharing it my friend.
It'll be on the charts when Tarrentino discovers it and puts it in a movie. I just got a copy of The Atlantic complete CBS recordings, Vol. one. Great music!
There was an American surf rock song also called Bombora by a band who called themselves the Surfaris, though they were not the same Surfaris that did "Wipe Out." I've never heard The Atlantics version unitl now. Very cool. Sounds a lot like The Shadows.
No WAY, Ron Jeremy looks like a Hedge hog, Hence the name The Hedge Hog. hahah Sounds like one of DR. Evils henchman! The bass player looks more like Wolfman Jack with a hangover. No mean spirit intended, all in humor!
Great to see these guys still playing strong with still such enthusiasm...The Atlantics are legends and may they live on for ever and a day...thanks guys for making our lives fun back then and now today....Barry Ribbons Sydney

the early 60's look was way better. The beach boys, The Atlantics, they all went to trash in the looks during the late 60's to the present.

TheGreatCorneliuski 1 year ago
Nice, never heard this one. Make sure you check:
Miserlou and Hava, Dick Dale.
Pipeline, The Chantays.
Bangalore, The Blazers (recently on Utube).
Penetration, The Pyramids.
Bombora, Surfaris.
Mr. Moto, The Belairs.
K-39, The Challengers.
Goofy Foot, The Lively Ones
If you could buy The History Of Surf Music a Rhino Records remaster 1982 only get the first album the 2nd and 3rd sucked.

A true Australian classic which will never die. Also which defines the Australian spirit and culture
I vote this song to be the next Australian anthem.

This remains as one of Australia's best ever instrumentals.
A remarkable effort after 45 years.
Jim (Skiathitis) on lead still has it along with Peter Hood on drums, Martin Cilia, guitar and Michael Smith, bass.
The Strat still sounds great and has clearly done some travelling in its' time.
Thank you mandyp for posting.

man such a great band, Martin Cilia rules. and you can tell Michael Smith(bassist) showed up to take care of business...look at that intensity.

Well, these are the blokes who wrote, first performed, and recorded "Bombora" way way back. In July 1963, "Bombora" reached No.5 nationally.
Follow up was "The Crusher" Nov. 1963, Top 20.
