  • The most beautiful and well done cover of this song I ever heard was done by Eva Cassidy, a Canadian singer who isn't well known. Sadly, she died at the age of 34 from breast cancer and, with her tragic death, the world lost one of it's truly great artists. If you haven't heard Eva Cassidy's version then, please, check it out! I guarantee you'll love it!

I'll even provide a link to it. Enjoy!

  • love U forever Stevie

  • Keith John KILLED this song on School Daze!!!!

  • stevie's hair though, they did my dad dirty constantly. smh

  • this made my day.

  • This song is off the soundtrack from the movie "School Daze". It was written by Stevie Wonder, but sung by Keith John.

  • @AsiaticBeauty Actually, the original is from Songs In The Key Of Life, released in September of 1976 on Motown Records. I know this because I've been a Stevie Wonder fan since he first started out as "Little Stevie Wonder" back in the early sixties, which should also give you a good idea of how long I've been around, too. In fact, I'm happy to say I was there to enjoy all of the Motown artists like the Shirelles and others when they were brand new.

  • What album is this song from?

  • @ravenphoenix It's from Songs In The Key Of Life

  • @SuperAieee This song is from the "School Daze" soundtrack. Not from "Songs in the Key of Life"

  • Who is the one cynic that disliked this video? #rude

  • @spartan0404 Haters gonna haters cause the greater ones

    will always be greater.

  • Hahahaha Barry White's face at 2:53 has an extraordinary expression!!!

  • This song sounds like Stevie. I didn't know that he wrote this song for school daze and Keith John did a wonderful job performing this song.

  • @RussellAthletics Yeah he DID, didn't he? I read that he wrote that song specifically for Keith John to sing.

  • just heard the late eva cassidy's version of this song (incredible of course) but as a musican and a stevie fan i can't believe i didn't know it was stevie's song? glad to hear both versions.

  • Funny how most people who are blind, can see much more than you or I. Love you Steve

  • Even though i've been used to hearing Keith John's version, you can clearly hear what Keith's intentions were when you listen to Master Stevie's version. I like Keith's version better as far as the format and clarity on the keys..........."BUT!!!" Vocally, Master Stevie can"t be messed whiff. (Selah) to all my psalmist out there.

  • We love you, Stevie! This is an awesome message to any and all people.

  • this song makes me cry every time i hear it

  • You can't even compare ANYONE to Stevie. No one!

  • stevie does this well, but I gotta say that I love it when Keith John does it........

  • I love at the very end where Barry White is just captivated by Stevie's voice and had to realize the song was over....that's why he's a musical genius!!!!! Love you Stevie!!!!

  • SANG IT STEVIE!

  • Wow! The more I hear from this guy, the more I am impressed. It is like he is superhuman. He truly has a gift. He is definitely doing what he was supposed to do in life. Because, to cheat the world out of things like this would truly be a crime.

  • This and Stay Gold are my most favorite SW songs.

  • @Cosmictalk Yeah those songs are wonderful, I would suggest you listen to "Feeding Off The Love of The Land" a song he wrote, produced arranged, play all the instruments & sang on after the ending credits for Jungle fever, the Spike Lee movie. It is 1 of the most hauntingly, beautiful songs ever sung & written by anybody!!

  • Pure, unadultrated, quintessential, unequivocal, genius! A remarkable musical savant!

  • @skills1ent I agree with what you just typed 1million %,after Stevie Wonder make his transition, there will never, ever be a singer/songwriter,multi-instrumentalist,producer,arranger,civil & human rights advocate & humanitarian like him again! Long live Stevie Wonder!!

  • @mrinnervisionz Thank you friend! Your comment is brilliant! It also demonstrates the diverse talent an incredible impact that Stevie has had on humanity.

  • I'm almost in tears. I recorded this live from the show when it was first aired years ago then lost the recording. Yet the haunting depth of the melody remained with me all these years. The feeling of the last 30 seconds just can't be placed in words. Thank you so much for posting this.

  • is that cissy houston whitney's mom at 2:00

  • @hiddenmgr Yes that is!

  • BEAUTIFUL AND POWERFUL.....TEARS ARE FALLING, THE TRUTH IS A REALITY....JANET WAS MOVED...ONLY STEVIE CAN DO THAT!!

  • 4 some wh doesnt have the faculty off sight this man has more insight and is more intune to nature and the human exsperience them most people

  • Wow......

  • Great song, but i actually like Keith John's rendition a little better. Stevie is my hero and Keith John has been his back up singer forever. Keith John has a great voice but for some reason could never make it as a solo artist.

  • @severe8403 i feel u, but this is live..

  • "Yet who's to say/with unfamiliar faces/you could anymore be?/love the you that you see/you can only be you/as I can only be me..."

  • I have been looking for this since I was 15!!!! Thank you!!! I remember watching this back in high school and crying for the beauty of this song...I liked the version in School Daze, but this is the BEST!!

  • I live for Stevie Wonder's music! All my life his lyrics lifted my spirits. He is amazing!

  • i think everyone should watch school daze... then maybe ppl wouldnt hate themselves as much... yet alone other ppl say hateful things to others.. that movie is soooo deep.. even beyond most of us want to comprehend.. the world needs to see past these labels and colors that were made up and see each other for human beings.

  • wow i've never seen his hair out this way. i love stevie, i get emotional everytime i hear him sing

  • thank you stevie...thank you!!! thank you!!....thank you!!!

  • dope!

  • OMG...I remember this song from Skool Daze....no wonder I loved this song so much, Stevie Wonder is my favorite artist!!!

  • why don't they make souls like this anymore?

  • @loon0493 because they've forgotton where it comes from.Without spiritual inspiration, there is no genius.

  • @jetpaq so true

  • Thankyou!

  • do you have the whole show on tape?

  • Not, only this

  • awful driver but sheer genial musician.

  • Where in the heck, does Stevie get the stuff he writes, its beyond genius

  • @trumusicgen the third eye

  • But for tho I really think he got 4 or 5 eyes...can't no other artist top his poetic

    language

  • where was that? I saw barry white, janet and little richard.

  • This is it. This is the song. Jesus, thanks for posting.

  • This man is the very reason I learned how to play a piano. In addition to that, this is one of my favorite songs. He wrote my all-time favorite which is 'Ribbon In The Sky'. Thank you so much Stevie!

  • First time I heard this on the School Daze Soundtrack, I just knew Stevie Wonder had to had written it. This vid is the only recording I've heard him singing it.

  • I know exactly whatyou mean, when I first heard it I was 7 and I remember telling my Mom that the song was pretty enough to have been written by Sevie Wonder.

  • Thanx a million times. I have been waiting for this for a long time !!. Stevies own version.. great!! I first heard this song by Eva Cassidy. A fantastic version.

  • AMAZING!!! This is the first time the song had ever been performed or heard. Before Keith John's studio recording. Stevie often performs NEW, unedited material before live audience for feedback. If he had decided to do a studio production I'm sure it would have been even more incredible.

  • Can U post the OH MARY DON'T YOU WEEP Gospel selection from this same show (The 1st Annual Soul Train Awards - 1987).

  • thanx for this 1

  • I live for this version.Kieth John tears it up 2.

  • His VOICE!!!!!!

    Is AWESOME!!!

  • my favorite song in the world. glad to see Stevie owning his masterpiece. Keith John's version was the only version I heard before viewing this, though i knew it was written by Steveland Morris. Both are great.

  • This is a wonderful song. Both stevie and keith did a great job on this song.

  • Great song. I also love Keith John's version of this.

And damn Janet was looking fine here!

    Thank you for posting.
