Love the sentiment, but the linguistic analysis is incorrect. Mendax means lying, untruthful, etc. in Latin the same as mendacity in English. It's related to the verb mentior--to lie--which has its origin in mentis--the mind (where you invent new/false thoughts, or conjure up untruths). The closest I can think of for your ideas about making things right is the unrelated emendare (where we get the words amend/to mend), which comes from e (out) + menda (fault), or to remove faults/flaws.
This video is amazing as I am gay and highly religious I can't stop wondering if I am eternally damed to hell because of the way I was created however now I feel more that God created me like this for a reason and loves me the same
The film? I remember two clean young actors slogging into the first scene, having too much fun playing the down-at-heels messes, especially ET's hanging cigarette. I laughed so hard. The sermon: I'm a happy little atheist, but if we gotta have religion, let's have more like this guy.
Very sad to me. He is lost and the family could not connect. I see nothing funny or good about this situation at all. And I find Randy to be too much of a smart ass like attitude towards his family but yet he still seems to desire to connect to them? Its like a gotcha type thing. I think they all have plenty of problems to work out. If he thinks being gay is going to be a wonderful life just give him another 10 years and we'll see how well he likes it as the youth fades.
@Marksnotebook I'm guessing that you are not gay yourself and yet you feel as if your life experience allows you to pass judgment on gays based on....I'm not sure what. I am gay and I have been with my partner 30 years next November. Like all couples we have ups and downs & yet I cannot imagine my life without him. When I was young, I was very handsome-sought by men & women alike, but that fades for everyone. so I don't quite understand your observation about youth. Randy will be just fine too.
Ryan Tofil I can see why you feel this project is so important. Randy Thank you for sharing the story of acceptance and love with others. I wish you both much success in your endeavor.
It does get better! Thank you for sharing your powerful story condisering your family background.....You demonstrate true grace in your lifes journey. You are a rock and a tower of hope for many gay men and women who live in mandasity. May your flame never die and may God continuue to give you the courage to spaek the truth and help the many souls who have walked in shoes like yours all with our own story. In many ways you restore, live and radiate the true image of God = unconditional love.
That's a wonderful, inspirational message. That said... I have to put on my professor/editor hat to raise one little point: it was Elijah who was "taken home" in the chariot and not Ezekiel. :-)
Randy: A very moving witness to your TRUTH. No mendacity. I'm moved by your words. You have given back to the gay community, and given a strong and beautiful sermon to so many young people who are literally living, and some times dying, in darkness. I know. Keep that/your tower burning bright.
As the grandson of Oral Roberts, or just any gay man who speaks up proudly publicly, you have instantly touched many lives. Thanks.
What a powerful and necessary message! It is so hard to think any good things of those who hate us for who we are, but we really DO need to realize that they are only trying to make things better in their own way. It is so painful to try to love the people who taught us that God hated us for being who we were, but if we can't love them, we will never win them over.
Dear beautiful Randy Potts ... you are not disgracing your family name AT ALL .. you are giving hope and inspiration to countless numbers of people who would never have been welcome at your Grandfather's church.
Great job! Thank you for sharing your story. Very inspiring and a very important message to so many young people who are either having to face their radically religious families or end their lives. Please do continue to share your message.
beautiful message of forgiveness! BRAVO!
