I just realised, its 10 years since i was at this concert. I knew that night leaving Slane that never again would i experience anything so brilliant. It was beyond words. Still is.
May our Heavenly Father hear our prayers and bless us all. Much respect U2- THANK YOU boyzz for spreading his word and for all you do as solid humanoids! Love & Light.... Godspeed to our fragile little planet.
For all of the sh1t flying around about Bono.. re:saving the world and what a wanker he is.............. the man's unstoppable when it comes to a ballard like this. !!!
As a politician....he sucks.
As a musician............. is there better ???????????????????
This song always makes me think of my dad, who I lost a year ago now. I just saw U2 where I live, going to a U2 show isnt just going to a concert, its like sitting with 50,000 close friends, and singing together, sharing something together.
I want to see them soooooooo bad I'm from clevland and there going to Pittsburg but my jackass of a dad keeps lying to me saying he'll take me buy just won't tell the truth I even have money for a ticket btw best song ever period so much raw emotion from Bono
this is REAL ,,no acting ,,,real feelings ,,,,one of the best , authentic performances ever ,,,,lyrics,,,voice,,,,everything! biggest Respect to U2! Thank you for your words,,,,and the new added words ! : for example at the very end : ´TALK TO EACH OTHER!`
His voice... singing I'M A MEN! His tears, the edge's face... Is so cruel but a sad moment in his life give me the most beautiful feeling.... my heart aches from beating so hard every time I watch this! See you guys here in México in 20 days. Can't wait for it!
If you like this version you should have been there in 2006. I was in Brisbane my home city at ANZ stadium where they closed the concert with this song and it was magnificent. I kind of wanted to hear it again in 2010 at Suncorp Stadium on the 8th of Dec but they closed with Moment of Surrender which was still good. To bad there was tons of traffic.
A U2 fan now for 26 years and I've been with them since 1985. Since my father was daignosed with cancer last year this song has melted into my heart and I'll love it for more that just the music.
One of my favourite U2 songs. This song connects with anybody who has lost a loved one. Great song both musically and lyrically, even better live. Played from the heart. Another U2 song to stand the test of time.
I love the smile when he looks back at the Edge after telling the story, you know they have been friends since childhood. I haven't always got into their later work but will br a die-hard U2 fan til I'm in a box.
This isn't a song about death so to speak, more written to someone experiencing loss in life. Loss of a loved one (to death), loss of a friend, a lover (to growing apart), a child (leaving home).
So it's a "it's your time to fly...like a kite in the sky...and I'll always love you". : )
I think you got the right idea about what the subject is. I just want to elaborate that I like to think as a Kite as free. When he sings you don't need me or anyone they're saying your free. Cut the string on the Kite.
Kite, Magnificent, Original of the Species, With or Without You, Where the Streets Have No Names, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, City of Blinding Lights, Walk On, Beautiful Day, Elevation, Miracle Drug, Pride (In The Name of God), New Year's Day, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own ..
So many undescribable songs from ONE UNDESCRIBABLE BAND!
Kite, Magnificent, Original of the Species, With or Without You, Where the Streets Have No Names, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, City of Blinding Lights, Walk On, Beautiful Day, Elevation, Miracle Drug, Pride (In The Name of God), New Year's Day, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own ..

this song, and this particular performance of it, makes me just cry. gives me chills down my spine. I have this on DVD and watch it almost everyday. amazing!
...I'M A MAN, I'M NOT A CHILD...goosebumps....sung only the way Bono could sing all of their songs. The Edge is also a fantastic singer and string player...
When my gramps died, he was a few oceans away and I couldn't be there. For some reason I couldn't cry about it. I took my friend Jared to the Irish pub down the street, here in the Midwest, where a man played a guitar and sang songs like Finnegan's Wake, etc. A happy mourning feeling.
This vid and song always remind me of that time. :*(
Actually this concert was done only a few days after his father's passing. The story goes that the band asked if he wanted to postpone the Slane concerts, but he said he needed it at the moment.
@blakeballard This is true. In fact, the first of the 2 shows at Slane Castle in 2001, which was on September 1st, was the day after his father was buried.
Very sorry to hear that tezhed. Someday I hope I can watch this without becoming overly emotional but it probably won't be anytime soon. Nevertheless, a beautiful performance.
I can't say enough about this song and of this gig. Truly amazing! Bono lost his father (may he RIP) only days before this gig and he pulls it off. I'd have been heart broken. It's just an emotional performance. Bono also lost his mother when he was just fourteen btw. I Will Follow is one of the songs about her.
From Wikipedia, " Bono had lost his father to cancer several days before the concert. Their first night at Slane was a day after his father was buried."
this SONG TRULEY shows that BONO REALLY is REAL AND HUMAN!!! YOU CAN SEE HE PUTS SO MUCH EMOTION INTO THIS SONG!!! ITS A WONDERFUL SONG by an AWESOME BAND!!!
"Whos to say where the wind will take you, whos to say what it is will break you, i dont no, which way the wind will blow" loveee that part more than any part of any song of theres
@DennisBelder ye he buried his dad the day b4 this show ,there was rumors that he wasnt gonna show .but fairplay to him he did and they played one hell of a show :)
Great song, by the way: when they would play it more often, it wouldn't stay that special. Like Ronaldo said: winnig the WK is better than sex, the WK is only once every 4 years ;) But still great song, when I die, my friens, family etc. should hear this song!
