  • This is a DH2 from World War 1? I didn't think there were any genuine original examples still around. Unless this is one that a farmer in northern France inadvertantly dug up while he was ploughing.

  • The FE 2b is my favorite aircraft (with the DH2 a close second) thanks for the video!

  • This is great. Thanks for posting.

  • Lucky bastard

  • I may be wrong, but did that aircraft have the nickname "screaming incinerator" because of it's habit of catching on fire , made worse because there were no parachutes used then.

  • @winterka100 I heard that the DH2 was called the "spinning incinerator" not just for catching fire but also for it's habit of going into uncontrollable spins! Those old rotary engines had a huge amount of torque effect. It's still a great looking aircraft though!!

  • I think I would only like to buy one of these for now.

  • Splendid aircraft. Just read the Cecil Lewis book.

  • Question regarding the engine; Is it original? I thought the rotary engine was how these were equipped..

  • @Napalmdog I think you're right there - as far as I know, all the radials of that era were rotary. Never mind the hazards of being an extremely old piece of machinery, a real rotary would make the plane that much harder to fly, so restorations and repros all tend to have more modern engines.

  • 0:13 - Yeh ... maybe just go around it?

  • ... first-class old machines... this view... then the sound.... Greeting to all pilots......... great video. Thank you

    warbirds-power.de

  • Interesting

  • at 0:14 save a dime....crawl under

  • in ww1 when those planes crashed the engine would rip off crushing the pilot 0.0

  • Great video! I didn't realise DH2's were so small

  • We've just added a new video featuring this Airco DH2 now - please take a look at our channel for more details.

  • ROFL! "Props" to the poor bloke who handpropped the engine!

  • If I am not wrong, that plane was made out of wood in WW1.

  • well u r wrong. i think only the taube was made out of wood those rn't

  • @mastaf006007 Many WWI aircraft were made out of wood...not just the Taube...Albatros D.III, Pfalz E.IV to name but two.

  • this is my favorite plane of WW1 i would love to fly one one day

  • same....i love the look and sound

  • The sound is almost certainly way off. This machine has a much newer radial engine - not the original rotary, which would have sounded a lot different - more like a broken lawnmower.

  • yes it ended the "Fokker scourge" in early 1916 and many squadrons were equipped with it way into 1917

  • mind if i ask the difficulty of flying or modifications and take-off and landing distance, pls reply with thanks

  • As you might gather from my YouTube handle- this is one of my favorite aircraft. and I love them all. But this might be my favorite. I also love the fokker Eindecker series and the early Neiuports like the 11 "Bebe". I'm the same way with WWII aircraft- I like the early war stuff like Hurricanes and early Zeros. So much for me- haow about this real Airco D.H.2? Thanks for posting this video.

  • @DH2pilot I love the Eindecker's myself...for that matter all of the WW1 Aircraft! I earn my living building Rotary-Wing Flying Machines and it is my ambition to put together a RagWing Biplane for myself...so many great choices out there, but I'm leaning towards a Jenny Replica...Low and Slow!

  • this is much slower than my nieuport 17 and 11

  • DH2s only had a top speed of 93~ mph with their 100 hp monsoupape engine. I'm sure if it had a bigger engine like in this video, it could go faster.

  • I want to see a DH2 with an authentic rotary engine on it. Radials don't do it justice.

  • Thanks for posting, it's so interesting. But sad there isn't any sound when it taxis and takes off, any possibility of re-loading?. Cheers.

  • Hi there, yes I am sorry about that! I no longer have the video on my phone, but please keep watching our page as I hope to record this aircraft properly shortly and will post something more on here. Many thanks.

  • Not at all, many thanks to you for your kind reply. I shall be in stand by. Good luck.
