  • in the past 10 years, starting salaries for university graduates has gone down, yet the cost of tuition is still going up. Steadily rising tuition cost are going to ultimately contribute to the fall of independent universities. Already we are seeing a decrease in enrollment and getting a loan to go to college is becoming increasingly more difficult. Universities have tricked high schoolers into believing they need them to make a lot of money; specializing in a trade is where the real money is.

  • In the past 10 years, institutional grant aid at Bellarmine and other independent universities has increased at more than twice the rate of tuition. We're pretty good at stretching a dollar. If you have ideas, I know your Alumni Association would love to hear them! Thanks.

  • sorry jay. increasing the cost of college during this time is irresponsible no matter how small. As a recent graduate of Bellar-men (not Bellar-mine) I know there are plenty of potential money making resources at that school that remain undeveloped. The running-a-university business is a lot different than it was 20 years ago, Bellar-men and other independent universities have been slow to adapt and because of this they still feel their only way to recuperate costs are to increase tuition.
